Just back....some meal observations

Been home a week now Just a few observations about our meals...since we had a split stay, we only did meal plan for half of the trip...some things we noted...

1. Best counter meal was definitely the restaurant at Norway...had sandwiches, seafood soup (yummy) dessert, and drink....thought it was a good deal. Entire party of 6 chose this as our favorite counter meal.

2. Close second was Flame tree....lots of food, but not as tasty as Norway.

3. TS meal at 50's PTC was okay...went there for experience for first timers.

4. Loved TS meal at Rose and Crown. The steak was so tender, cut with a table knife. We always get a good meal there, one of our favorites.

5. Worst TS meal was at San Angel Inn....service was so-so.....not the most friendly of servers. Food was edible, but definitely not worth was we spent. (this was one of the meals for which we paid cash)


We came to the conclusion that the meal plan works well for us. Not sure how much money we saved, but we just like the covenience and not worrying if I'm gonna run short on money.

We may try the one with the counter meals sometime...just to see how that works for us.

I agree with you about San Angel. Definately the worst meal out of lots of WDW meals for us. We also like the food at Norway a lot. Hope you had a great time.

This is exactly how I feel about the DDP. I do it more for the convenience that it is paid for in advance. I like being able to order pretty much what I want and not look at the price. I know if I had to pay for everything while I was there I would be looking to order the least expensive item instead of what I really want. My 13 year old is excited that he can get a steak for most of the TS meals.

The best part is that in 29 days I will be returning again My daughter's band is performing in Downtown Disney, and I won't miss the oppty. to see her. The band trip was planned long after the New Year's trip, so I'll just have to suffer through two trips in a row Now, I am in the process of deciding which plan to do for that trip. Does anyone know if DVC members can choose from the regular plan or the counter service one? Since it will just be my SIL and myself (girls trip...woo hoo) we might do better with the counter service and snacks choice.

If you liked the CS at Norway then you must try Sunshine Season's at the land in EPCOT. That is by far my family's best CS not only in quality but for the Dining plan deal it is. There is a grill where you can get a big bone in pork chop or what I get is the Grill Salmon with a great Remoulade sauce. You get some awesome carrot chips, and a rice pilaf. And don't forget you get a dessert with the meal plan, and at Sunshine Seasons there is a gourmet dessert counter with pastry chef prepared desserts to choose from. Not the run of the mill chocolate cake in a plastic container. Also a great counter service is Wolfgang pucks at downtown disney. Pucks has some of the best pizza around and they also have a great roasted chicken dish with garlic mashed potatoes. Just my opinions. Oh year Flame tree ribs are pretty good, I just don't like eating with ducks walking around my feet. Pretty gross.

nice info - have never considered going to Norway for lunch, but that sounds good (we love seafood soup, any kind.) We love the bakery goods, and we went to Akershus long ago (before it was a princess meal ) Good to have another choice on my lists...our goal is to not repeat restaurants

We were not on the ddp so here goes. My wife and I always had breakfast in the room. We were in the Boardwalk Villas and bought enough to last us the 6days we were there. Eggs and toast and such along with OJ and Milk. The first night we ate at Olivia's in Old Key West resort. The food was outstanding and we ate there on a recommendation from a freind whom home resort is old key west. Had the penne pasta and my wife had the pork chop. Both were outstanding and we would say that the service was prompt and the food was worth the price. 2nd nite we ate at Boma's and again you cannot go wrong with the food. That is the 4th time we have eaten there and we have not had a bad meal yet. The 3rd nite we ate at 50's prime time cafe and although the service was ok and the food was good, I was a little disappointed as I thought there would be more of an inter action between my waiter/waitress and us. He basically did the regular routine a normal waiter would do. Maybe it was not his night. Maybe thought it was more of a build up of what I have read about the place. The 4th night we ate at the Biergarten, in the German Pavillon and again the 3rd time eating there and was not disappointed. Good food and good entertainment but our waitress was a tad not into it with our table. The 5th nite was the best of all. California Grill. The food was outstanding and the service was the best. It seemed that we were the only one's in the place as we were treated like King and Queen. We also saw the fireworks from the observation deck for MK. They even ask us about our main course on whether we wanted before the show or after. The wait staff and the food was outstanding. We had the triple cheese flatbread which was great. Potato leak soup which was to die for. and had the Tempura Malibu roll again wonderful. Our main course for me was the Japanese pumpkin ravioli which was wonderful. My wife had the Grilled Pork tenderloin which she could cut with a butter knife. If you are going to do a nice restaurant, California Grill is one of them you should try. It is worth the money you spend up there. The afternoon meals were spent with just snacks (Toluca turkey legs and sandwiches) The whole dining week was great, food was good and except for a couple of average waiters we had a wonderful time.
