We just got back (2am today..lol). It was a short weekend trip so we mostly at counter service-- everything was good as usual. I have a photo of our food from T REX I'll post today.
One new thing I got was the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad & strawberry shortcake for desert at the foodcourt in the Land. Salad was so good- just enough dressing. The strawberry shortcake was $3.99 and worth every penny-- lots of fluffly layers of real whipped cream and cake and big strawberries.
We weren't planning on eating at T REX at DTD but we were there Monday night (memorial day). We were going to eat at Wolfgang Pucks Express but T REX looks SO neat inside. We walked up around 8:30pm with no reservation. The place looked packed but it was just a 30 min wait so we took it. I'm someone who has no desire to eat at Rainforest Cafe but TREX is SO neat inside! And I'm not a huge dinosaur fan either-- but I was almost tempted to do the "build a dino"..lol
We were seating the forest section (not sure if that's the official name) right next to two triceretops that moved periodically. The sections are all really cool but my favorite was the "under the sea" one- the bar is under a HUGE octopus that moves and lots of big fish tanks.
The service was a little slow but not bad at all-- you don't want to be rushed anyways because there is so much to see. My fiance ordered a drink called "Category 5" - it was $12 but really good and you keep the cup. The base of the cup lights up. It was a fruity drink and big, too. It was made with 99 Bananas so it had a strong banana flavor. I just got iced tea ($2.50 I think).
I got "Jurassic Shrimp Skewers" - Grilled shrimp with red and green bell peppers and onions, served over Raptor rice with mango fruit salsa and lemon butter sauce $20.99. It was REALLY good! I was surprised because I really didn't expect much from the food. It was two skewers probably with 4 big shrimp on each and lots of peppers, red onions. The rice was was similar to what I've gotten at Outback-- like a rice pilaf, really good. Around the rice was the mango salsa, which was also really good with the shrimp. I cleaned the plate.
My fiance got something that was just added to the menu-- it was a Chicken Pot Pie-- called Prehistoric Pot Pie I think. It was very good and BIG- about the size of a small dinner plate. The top was a light pastry puff and inside was piping hot chicken and veggies. I had a couple bites and it was good. It was about $15 I think.
While we were finishing up eating I saw this critter run by on the rock/plant area the Triceretops was on next to me. At first I thought it was part of the restaurant but then I noticed it was a HUGE Palmetto bug! (aka big roach). It ran by and then flew up on the Triceretops and then we didn't see it again...lol. I was paranoid it was going to fly back on to me-- we couldn't stop laughing about it. The whole front of the restaurant is open to the outside and there was just a huge rainstorm so I think it ran in. Has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the place-- it just scared me! lol
We had a lot of fun and will definitly eat there again on our next trip!
