Just returned from a GREAT trip to WDW. Stayed at Pop for the first time and really enjoyed it! I was with my dh, our 3 children and my parents. We had 2 connecting rooms.

Only disappointment was that the goofy pop jet area was closed during our stay. My 3 kids (aged 4, 6 & 9) loved the pool even though there was no water slide. The main "flower" pool had flower shower/sprinklers that were fun to play in.

This trip was done somewhat commando style (6 nights) as we didn't have time for pool days in between our park days so we didn't spend as much time at the resort as we usually do.

Food court: Good selection but we only bought snacks here and never had any meals. We bought the refillable mugs and the kids loved getting hot chocolate. The frozen coke option was new for us - we have been used to just getting sodas, coffee and cocoa. The tye dye cheesecake looked very festive buy we did not try it.

Some snacks were priced well (you could buy boxes of commercial donuts at the same price you would pay at the grocery store) but some things were quite expensive. I loved the small yogurt parfait (layers of vanilla yougurt with granola and a few blueberries) but at $3.79 each I thought they were priced a little steep (you could make these yourself for under $1.)

Buildings: We requested and got the 70's building. I highly recommend this location. This section is right next to the "preferred" 60's building and our room was actually closer to the food court and pool than some of the "preferred" rooms. We were in the Mickey building (across from the giant big wheel), 2nd floor, facing the lake (room 5262 I think.) Nice, peaceful and quiet.

Buses: No complaints - we never waited more than 15 minutes.

I read lots of negative reviews for this resort with regards to noise. We had no problems at all. The toilets were VERY loud but this did not bother me. We had people in the rooms on both sides of us and the only thing we heard were the showers and toilets. No one in my group had any trouble sleeping and we tried to be courteous so as not to disturb the others around us. I never heard anyone in the room directly above us.

Maid service was great. They left nice face cloth animals for us everyday but I think you have to tip them to get this service. One day my parents forgot to leave a tip and when we returned to the room we had a beautiful face cloth basket full of bright yellow flowers and my parents didn't have anything special. They remembered their tip for the rest of the week! ;)

We saw pictures of the rooms on the internet before we left and every thing was exactly as I had expected. Small buy adequate.

Bottom line - I would stay here again for a budget trip. The only thing I think I really missed was having a water slide but my kids didn't seem to notice. My kids loved the bright, larger than life plastic Mickey, Big Wheel, etc... Not a great place for a honeymoon but a great place for a family with young kids.

Thanks for posting. We're staying at POP in February.

FOV,

If you don't mind, would be willing share how much you tipped Mousekeeping at POP? I've always been curious about this at WDW with all of the different costs with the resorts -- would one tip a lot less at POP than GF, for instance?

Anyway, if you don't mind, that'd be great! We're going in a week to POP! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc

When you tip, do you leave it on the bed, mirror or at the service desk.....When I go I want to make sure that they get the tip.

As for things being expensive.....I have made sure that money is not a problem when I go......If my DH wants a parfait I don't want to have to think about the price...

It has taken me five years to plan and be able to go and not have to worry about costs...........

My last trip to WDW was in 1980............so this is all new to me again.

Glad you enjoyed POP and thanks for the review............

How was the parking at the Pop? We will be there Dec 3-11 and were wondering if it has gotten any better...

Thanks

We had 4 people in our room and we tipped $5 per day. My parents had 3 people in their room (the 2 of them plus my daughter) and they left $5 per day as well.

If I were staying in a villa or someplace larger to clean or if I made lots of requests (extra towels etc..) I would tip more but $5/day is usually my standard. I always read $1 - $2 per person per night.

In one of my guidebooks it said to tip the housekeepers about $2 per day. Does anyone know if that is standard?

I haven't ever been to a Disney hotel, but when I go to conferences and things I leave the tip on the desk with a note that says "For Housekeeper - Thank You!"

We will be at the Pop in January. Thanks for your review!

My parents had their own car and the parking lot was less than half full in front of the 70's building. We visited during a slow time of year so I'm not sure how it will be as it gets closer to Christmas. I couldn't tell if they expanded the original parking lots - I was wondering because I also read some reports of problems parking. I think is will be okay for your stay because you will also be there during the slow season.

Good luck!!!

We left the tip tucked into a little folded card that had the maids name hand written on it. It was taken every day so we know she got it.

I agree it's nice not the have to nickel and dime! When you go to Disney (or *any* resort!) you expect to pay inflated prices. I indulged in the yogurt parfaits but I have to admit the frugal side of me always twinged a bit at the register  don't ask me why! Isn't it funny how people like me shell out thousands for a vacation and then twinge at paying $4 for breakfast!

We just got back from Pop also :) I enjoyed it as well. We were also in the 70's, 4th floor room 4 something. LOL. What a bad memory. We used our rental car a lot and it was convenient to the parking lot. I tipped mousekeeping also and we got a cute towel basket with stickers. I also left a note with my tip asking for extra "pool towels". They never left extra. We had a quiet area also. I heard a toilet flush once or twice, but it is so quick it is over in a second. They sure are powerful! LOL

The parking on Saturday night was a bit crowded. We were in the 70's section and closer to the 90's parking and the check in parking. We were instructed to park in the 90's by the CM when we checked in. On Saturday night my dh parked the car at the check in parking, which happened to be pretty close to our room. The other nights we had no problems.

I did the same thing at some of our meals! LOL

When we were there in August, I never noticed the 'toilet noise' at PC, but I did notice it at AKL!

We had a prefered room (no extra charge, free upgrade) overlooking the lake, and it was wonderful! Very, very quiet.

We also just got back from POP on Sunday morning.

I am undecided on POP. I can't say that I don't like POP though. Check in did not go well, however, we experienced this at All Star Sports too. We had a reservation for 2 rooms for 7 nights. The rooms were too be connecting rooms because of the 3 Kids that we have. We got our room assignment, 50's facing the lake. I reguested pool view so this won't work. The CM kindly changes our room assignment to the 90's. (Loved it!!) Go to 4th floor, open the door.....no connecting door. I was a little cranky because we just drove from NJ straight through. We call the front desk wait 15 minutes and the CM comes to meet us to give us new room assignment and new keys. Let the vacation begin!!!

Since June I have been reading everything about POP that I can. I had read split opinions on how the 80's and 90's were too far away. I think that the walk is a little long. With all the walking that you do in the parks the last thing I wanted to do was more walking to Classic hall. We were trying to find the shortest way. I'll tell you what though........I think this was the cutest area of the whole resort!! The gift shop and Cafeteria in the same room sounded appealing to me, however after each meal my kids wanted to go into the gift shop and that wore on me big time.

The kids spent alot of time in the arcade and had a blast!! I think they have a better selection than the All Star's!!

We went to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue and that was awesome!! A must do if you can. Leave lots of time to get over there though if you take the bus and boat there. Getting back to the hotel was a breeze. They have special busses and they are only for those getting out of the Hoop Dee Doo Revue.

My one son celebrated his birthday and they had balloons and 2 autographed photos for him. He felt special. My other son played Jr. lifeguard and got a certificate and key chain.

They do keep POP very clean. Someone is always cleaning. I just think overall that this resort is huge and a little spread out for me.

Cafeteria.......hmmmm.........one morning we went for breakfast at 10:10 and NOTHING was ready. The cook was actually in the back cooking, throwing a tantrum, leaving, coming back with empty dirty trays and throwing the food (french toast, pancake and chocolate pancakes) into the trays. He had to go from the grill to the counters where the servers make up the plates. I think that was totally unprofessional as there were ALOT of people waiting because this is the busiest line.

Mousekeeping was OK. We tipped everyday and one day we got towel animals. Wish they would have swept the bathroom floors though.

I miss Disney already!!!:wave2:

Glad you had a good time overall - despite the problems you encountered. Ya, I miss Disney already too!

I forgot to mention my ds also celebrated his 4th birthday at Disney and much to our surprise we came back to the room one day to find balloons (3 helium with stars printed on them) and a birthday card signed by Buzz and Woody. This was nice as it was completley unexpected.

I have to agree with your comments about the gift shop and cafeteria being so close - actually sharing the same open space. I know many people really like this but I think it made the area seem too busy. My preference would have been to keep these separate. Again - this is not something that would sway me from staying there - just a preference. I'm sure it makes sense from a commerce point of view (your kids can eat their $4 yogurt while eyeing the $22 t-shirts ;) )
