Dh and I just returned from a magical trip to WDW celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. We used DVC points and stayed 2 nights at the Poly in a GORGEOUS lagoon view concierge room (our view couldn't have been more perfect -- straight-on to the castle) and then 3 in a studio at the VWL. It was our third stay at each resort.
The Poly, as always, did NOT disappoint. The concierge staff was wonderful, as were almost all the CMs we encountered. The lone exception was the valet ("Iggy") who literally body-slammed my dh into the entry doors as he hurried out to the valet stand. I convinced my dh that Iggy was probably in his own world and really didn't see my dh there, but it would've been nice if he'd at least paused to excuse himself!
The new rooms are sooooo beautiful. We loved sitting on our balcony to watch the fireworks and water pageant. The staff sent up the traditional chocolate postcard and also delivered a balloon bouquet and an anniversary card autographed by Belle & the Beast. It was such a nice surprise!
We hated leaving the Poly, but were excited to try the studio at VWL, as we'd always stayed in a one-bedroom before. We received a first-floor studio very close to the main lodge (convenient!). I have to say that we were really disappointed in the room after being at the Poly. It's significantly smaller, and the living area is very cramped feeling. The entry and kitchenette/vanity area are larger than they need to be, IMHO. There is no decoration in the studio except for a print over the couch -- not even the painted border that the one-bedrooms have. With the blank stucco walls and unimpressive furnishings, we felt like we were in someone's walkout basement!
We also missed the convenience of the monorail and felt a little isolated at the Lodge.
We enjoyed the beauty of the WL as always, but after being really wowed by the renovations at the Poly, dh and I both agreed that some of the charm of the place has worn off for us.
We're planning another trip in a year (gotta squeeze the value out of our APs) with our son, and we hope to stay at the Poly again.
If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to try and answer!

We've stayed at all the resort levels from the All Stars to the Grand Floridian, and the Poly remains our absolute favorite. It's heavenly!!
