Hi all -
We spent last week in the parks (3/16 - 3/22). Just my experiences/observations that I hope will be helpful.........

1. Magic Bands - We did a split stay between POR & an off-site condo - had no trouble with our MBs at any time. While there are things about FP+ that don't thrill me, the bands are an excellent convenience.

2. Crowds were manageable for the first couple hours each day then got very heavy until much later in the evening. We did what most of you are already doing/planning. We arrived at RD - did as many rides as we could then utilized FP+ either early afternoon or in the evening when we returned to a park after a break to swim/nap. This really did work well.

3. MDE - I didn't have any major problems with the app. There were only a couple times where it locked up, and we did find the wait times to be mostly accurate, which was very helpful to plan which rides to hit next. I agree with other posters who observed that at times the wait times can change drastically very quickly. That was frustrating, but didn't happen too terribly often.

4. FP+ - Ok, the tiering stinks & we miss the days of being able to ride our favorites multiple times - but it is what it is. As far as scheduling the FP+, there were only a couple times where we couldn't get the rides or times we wanted & we mostly did our scheduling the night before or the morning of. It is a pain to change the times - for instance, if you want shift all your FP+s up or down or flip flop the times of your rides, it takes some time, but I was usually able to get the timeframes we wanted. (Also very possible there was a better way to do it that I don't know about.....)

One other observation on FP+......this is purely our experience & I have no data to back it up, but I felt like we waited LESS with FP+ that we used to with FP-. With very few exceptions, our FP+ really did put us near the front of the line.

5. The parks - I agree with other posters that there are some areas that need some sprucing up - the Buzz Lightyear ride at MK is the first example I can think of. In terms of cleanliness, I felt that considering the crowds, the janitorial CMs do the best they can. We saw a lot of them about & working hard, but we also saw a LOT of very inconsiderate guests who left their garbage wherever they felt like it or weren't very respectful in the restrooms. After Fantasmic, we sat for a while to wait for the crowds to clear, and I was saddened at the amount of garbage people left behind.

6. CMs - we had a couple really wonderful encounters with CMs who were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our experience great. The ones I noticed that weren't so friendly were the ones working in crowd management, ride loading etc. They weren't overtly rude - they just seemed stressed and sometimes annoyed.

Our family had a really wonderful trip - the kids loved it every bit as much as they always have. DH and I missed some things about the way we used to tour, but on the other hand.....not being able to ride headliners multiple times pushed us to do things we don't usually make time for (best one was letting kids do the passports in EPCOT, which they LOVED!) so that was the silver lining.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It gives those of us with upcoming trips a better idea of what to expect. Glad you had a good time!

Thanks for sharing - great info. Sounds like a really good trip.

We had so much fun - I think it helped that we went in with reasonable expectations. We knew with the spring break crowds & the new FP+ system we wouldn't be able to tour in the way we have in the past. And we were right - we couldn't, but we still had a wonderful time.

You put it perfectly! We were also at WDW for our spring break and loved the MBs. So very convenient! It really does pay to plan: we were able to ride BTRR four times at MK rope drop plus again that night with FP+. We were able to ride Test Track twice with standby at rope drop, once with FP+ and 3x in single rider. Not everyone's plans will allow for mutliple rides but with some creaivity, it can work for some rides.:wizard:

About half of the time my MB said I had no FPs made, altho I did this before my trip. Sometimes it would start working again later the same day. It made my trip less magical. I did a lot at rope drop, but I know this isn't for everybody.

The CMs have a difficult time right now, as the crowds have so little understanding of FP+ (and some of the CMs too!) They didn't seem rude to me, but not very happy. In restaurants I had my worst CM experiences. I dined alone, and was virtually ignored every time. I actually tip well, but of course not what is received from a table of 6.

I was surprised how dirty the restrooms were.

My trip was in Feb. My main issue was how unreliable the MBs were.

Awesome report!!! Thanks much, gives me renewed confidence that our upcoming August trip won't stink :rotfl:

I'm really sorry the MBs didn't work for you - I can imagine how frustrating that would be. It's tough because the bands are really great if they work well, but if they don't I can see how the inconvenience of a malfunctioning band would really put a damper on a trip.

Really great information, thanks!!! :goodvibes I just have to say something about this quote above....
We saw so much of this on our most recent trip. People seemed to have no concern that there was a trash can 10 feet away from them. They'd leave all their trash just sitting on the bench next to them after a show like Indy or LMA. We saw this in restaurants, also. Most people know in a fast food restaurant that you should take your tray and trash to a trashcan and dispose of it. But we saw people just get up, leaving garbage and trash on the table and floor around them. That's just unacceptable!!! Clean up after yourself....Rant over, sorry! :worried:

It was really disappointing. The worst example we saw was on Castaway Cay (we did a 3-night cruise at the beginning of our trip). As we were leaving the beach we saw a spot where people had left their trays of food from lunch behind in the sand - food, cups, napkins, chip bags - it was a real mess and I felt so sorry for the CMs dealing with it.

Thanks for the input. It sounds like we need to just "embrace the change" especially since we cannot do much about it. And " go with the flow"
Im not exactly excited with the MB and FP+ but we should make the best of it.. But it sounds like we you manged it just fine ;)

I think you have a very valid point. "Going with the flow" is not my strong suit, but it was either that or let a bunch of things I couldn't control (crowds, FP+ etc.) put a damper on our trip. And frankly - life's just too short.

Well said about folks needing to clean up after themselves - no need to leave trash behind when there are plenty of trash buckets around....geez
