Just back...new extra magic hours is a joke!

I'm hoping this isn't "quite" the case in the middle of August.. but I'm not holding my breath. Just a question. Have any of you all complained or asked someone at Disney about this? Maybe if enough people complained about all the "uninvited" guests and made comment on how they were paying for this privilege by staying at a Disney resort it might be better run? Just wondering.

I second that...also if someone is in line and has no wrist band unless they are a child with an adult who does have one I would ask the CM why they were being allowed to ride.

I know there are CM supervisors but how do you find them...maybe that is the key. And do let the resorts know what is going on at the parks not just the CM at the Desk but the GM's.

hope the kinks are worked out befor we go....

I couldn't agree more. Hopefully they can do something to stop abuse of the system (i.e., issuing armbands w/out presentation of resort id, allowing guests to ride during EMH w/out armbands). It really isn't fair to resort guests.

I wonder if MK was a ghost town on Thursday early EMH b/c it was open til 3am the night before during Spring Break and then opened again at 7am. We were never there for a Thursday morning, but I bet that was probably really uncrowded.

March 20-30th they were checking resort id's and asking to show bracelets. Yes we were at MK until 2:30 am, and that was it . But we rode Splash 3X's, DUMBO(1st time!!!), BTM 2x's, POC, Philharmagic, IASM, HM, Buzz, and Stitch. So we got a lot done...and that was all after Wishes at 9pm. I will agree it was crowded...Lots of teens/ and college students....not many little kids (mine were 6 and some of the youngest...but not the only ones). It was just a little hard to find snacks. And be sure to wear a glow in the dark thing...espically on children...it makes them a lot more visable when teens are running all over.

We just got back 4/4 thru 4/10 and we loved the EMH; we also utilizied the FPs. We didn't care for it being so crowded but it we were still able to ride everything without very minimal wait :sunny:

As far as checking for resort ID; they checked ours every evening before putting on the bracelets......

Can't wait for some more magic..... :Pinkbounc

Okay, just got back... literally, less than 30 minutes ago from a 4/5-4/12 trip. I second KimR's opinion... we must have been in the twilight zone because we LOVED the evening EMH last Wed (4/6). We were in AK that a.m. and headed into MK around 5:30 p.m. The bus from Pop was standing room only at that time. Headed first to Crystal Palace for a PS, saw a bit of Cinderellabration and didn't really get started w/our "touring" until a bit past 7 p.m. From 7-9 p.m. we got FP's for BTMR, rode POTC, did the Treehouse (Dumb but kids had never done it), Magic Carpets, got our wristbands (which we had to show id for -- they didn't put a bracelet on our 2yo here but they insisted at Epcot she HAD to have one, so she got one there later in the week). So, we did 3 attractions in just under 2 hours. at 8:55 p.m. we rode BTMR (which we ride switched on), and by 9:05 dh was riding BTMR w/the kids for a 2nd go-round... they got to see the FW from there... cool! By 9:15 we were officially in "EMH." We stayed all the way til midnight. We walked onto HM, waited less than 10 mins for IASW, (got FP for PP at around 9:30-- SO, YES THEY DO OPEN UP FP, at least sometimes, walked right into Philharmagic as they were seating, did our FP for PP, (FP'd Pooh before jumping on PP), (checked Dumbo -- wait still looked kinda long), checked Tomorrowland for FP's... they weren't doing them, all waits were 20 mins or less, so we did Stitch (they first said our dd2 was too short, but let dh come into preshow, they never took them aside, so she ended up doing this with us... She was barely shy of the height restriction... which I don't understand anyway, so thankfully we didn't have to ride switch on this one... it was lame anyway)... walked on Buzz, walked on Tea Cups, did Pooh FP, got in line for Dumbo at 11:59, and had to wait for only one go-round. So from 8:55 to midnight (just over three hours), we did ELEVEN rides. We'd have had time for Space if we had gone on it instead of Stitch -- had we known how totally lame that was going to be. Oh, and we did all of this with me, dh and four kids ages 6, 5, 4, and 2 (plenty of bathroom breaks needed during this time too!) So, IMHO, EMH eve was great!

Friday a.m., 4/8, for the one hour of EMH, we didn't have nearly as much success. While we still enjoyed getting a jump on the day, we found Space Mtn. not running yet, so dh and dd's FP'd it, while I took the younger ones to the Tea Cups. We had time to do some character meets, rode Buzz twice, TTA and got drinks and did potty breaks, rode Golden Carousel and let the kids check out the Sword in the Stone. By then it was past 9 a.m., reg. park opening.

At Epcot, 4/7, the weather must've driven everyone out. It was totally dead. We had to show id and EVERYONE got wristbands, even our 2yo. After Illuminations, there were two mass exoduses, one for the exit, the other for Future World, M:S, TT area. We'd already done everything we wanted to do, so we ended up leaving earlier than we expected to, but it was already so dead by 7ish, that we'd walked onto everything. Nobody was coming in (it rained but not hard and there were a few cracks of lightning, but the ground was dry enough by 9p.m. to sit on it for Illuminations).

At MGM, Sat. night, it was a ghost town. Everyone seemed to clear out and/or head to Fantasmic by 7:30. We walked onto everything and were standing in front of the hat trying to figure out if we wanted to do anything else. We'd even done Sounds Dangerous we were getting so hard up to find things to do to stay in the park! My dh even let me shop!!! Not sure how EMH went once Fantasmic got out b/c we left there by 9. Park "officially closed" at 8:30. When we got back to Pop, there were people waiting to board the bus TO MGM.

We'd talked to some people that felt AK eve EMH was moderately helpful to them. And others who said the day after MGM eve EMH was totally dead in the a.m. and they found they could do a lot then.

So, I disagree w/others who say that EMH is not worth it. We never really had to wait although, the later it got, the more quickly we were able to get on rides. I never even thought to check if they were letting people on w/o bands, we weren't having any wait problems.

Even when we got to the bus stop, the line for Pop was stretched back past the empty queue and down to queue 15 (I think), Pop is queue 18. We were at the end of that line and after about 20-25 minutes we were on a bus. That was our longest line of the trip. They were sending buses every few minutes and started sending two at a time. So I think they did a good job getting everyone back home. But I did notice (Us included) there were quite a few little ones still up at midnight waiting in the bus line to get home. Don't be fooled into thinking that some parents (again, us included) will try to take advantage of EMH eve too. By the way, all four of our kids were awake and behaved their best during that EMH. They had taken nice long naps that afternoon! Go Figure... we must be raising night owls!

what is the new extra magic hours? also, how did you use to be?

just curious...

Visit DEB'S SITE to see a listing of the new EMH. It used to be daytimes only. Whatever day it was, you got to enter that park an hour early for EMH. The old schedule was MK,AK,MGM,EPCOT,MK,AK,MGM from Sun-Sat. So if it were Tuesday, then in the AM you got into MGM one hour earlier than non resort guests.

Deb's site gives a GREAT breakdown of the new EMH with the rides open during the day and the night. :teeth:

We just got back last night from a short trip, April 7-April 11, and while I can't speak for EMH at MK, we did do the one at MGM Sunday night and thought it was great!
We did have to show ID to get our wristbands, and while there were people walking around without wristbands, we saw them get turned away if they tried to enter an actual attraction.
We walked on everything we wanted, grabbed a late dinner at 50's Prime Time, and then just sat and enjoyed the empty park.
At about 11:00, DH and DD rode several times with 0 wait on RNRC, and could have ridden TOT with no wait, but DH wasn't up to it.
Honestly, we usually do all we want during normal operating hours, so I would love the EMH even if we didn't get to do that many actual attractions. The extra hours provide us a chance to really just enjoy the atmosphere of the park at night when sometimes that would otherwise not be possible.

THANK YOU, :goodvibes for all the info, DS and I will be going in JUNE we are going to try EMH at MGM and AK and MK hope all go's well for us

take care :wave2:

and god bless

MARY ;)

We were there Wed night and has a great time.
Rode everything at least x2....rode Buzz 10 times.
I do agree that CM do not do a good job checking resort ID.
Makes more sence to get the bands at the resorts. :confused3

I'm so confused now. We were planning to do all the EMHs when we go next week. But having read all this, maybe we should do, as suggested by FAMCRUISEFAN, the "anti-EMH shuffle" - you know going to the parks that don't have EMH that day and going to the park in the morning that a late EMH night the night before? This would mean, of course that we would have to change our PSs.

It sounds like maybe we should avoid nighttime EMH at MK, but go to the night EMHs at MGM and Epcot because of the crowds. Then, maybe we should go to all early EMH but also include going to the park in the morning that had EMH the night before.

I think that I need to just readjust my expectations - I thought that night EMH was going to be like E-ride nights but better - more rides and more time and same small crowds. I guess it really is the the park staying open later - an extension of the regular day (which is fine).

What do you think? Please let me know...I feel like I want to have it decided before we leave!

How does Disney notify non resort guests that it is an EMH night and the park, at least the rides, is closed to non EMH guests? Do they make a public announcement at closing?

Not to beat the same-old-drum -- & I know there are "night folks" out there -- but if you really want to do a lot of attractions without waiting in long lines, there remains no substitute for EARLY.

no--they just explain to people without bands that they can't ride & why. We've seen it happen at MNSSHP...and once last Wednesday night. Last week, the woman was MAD, too...she insisted that she could stay, even without the band  That was the only time I ever saw a CM check for a band while we were there.

After reading all the reports of others that went last Wednesday, I'm kicking myself for not sticking it out....I guess we were just in all the wrong places at the wrong time. We found the crowds to be large and the experience extremely frustrating.

Simba's Mom - Yes, you read right. They didn't ask for resort or picture ID's from either myself or my husband - they just put those wristbands on. I think for the most part spring break was over. We were there from April 4-9 and from reading this board, most people either had spring break before then or later in April - even the amount of points to rent at Old Key West dropped on April 3. We were also in the park at 10:00 - 2:30 that day and were able to walk on some attractions. Fantasyland was packed on Wednesday night much more so than during the day. We really were disappointed to see so many people walking around without wristbands. I'd like to know if they were indeed turned away from the attractions or how many people were in the park with wristbands that shouldn't have had them. Again, we would much rather pay for the E-nights, but that's just our opinion.
Spring Break for Atlanta Ga Metro area was last Week. I know many many people went to WDW last week. Just For Your Info.

Thanks Minmate. I feel better about going tonight now. :)

So was HM open duiring EMH time? I didn't see it listed on allearsnet.

We may not be able to get there until after 9pm, so we'll probably miss out on POTC. :(

HM was open after 9 when we went on it. It was the first thing we did, about 9:15... so I don't know if it was "spill-over" or what. We just walked right on. I *thought* I read POTC is open late-night too. I could be wrong. We only did it during reg. hours.

As with all estimations of park attendance, I think it is really hard to know for sure until you get there and are in the midst of it to know how it's going to work for you. The best suggestion I can give it to stay flexible. I know that's hard with PS's. I also know that people here have debated the "double PS" option and many have met with getting PS's cancelled if they double up for the same meal. But, I do THINK you can get around that by giving your spouse's name and say a cell phone number. I REALLY DON'T KNOW about this though and I understand the wave against this option. But if you're stressed about your PS's it may be worth SOME consideration. Also, you can go and try EMH and if it stinks for you, get on the phone and rearrange your PS's from there. I know it's a gamble, but you have to decide what's going to make you happier with your trip.

Personally, I found EMH eve's to be good, MK's was totally magical for us.

HM did end up being open all night. I was so pleased. So were a bunch of rides not listed on allearsnet.com

Like Pirates of the Caribbean. When I find my EMH guide, I will type up everything that was open.

For whomever goes to future EMH nights, you MUST do the Jungle Cruise with the Japanese woman. What a riot!
