Hi, we just returned from our 6 day visit to the world. We're exhausted. Anyway, I thought I'd share what it was like to eat on the dining plan with a ds who is allergic to both peanuts and fish.
Day 1 - Mama Melrose in DHS. We've always loved this restuarant, but it was terrible this time. Of course, my ds, was misbehaving and two tables asked to be moved from sitting near us. I felt awful, so my husband and I switched eating and playing outside with him. Then we learn that the form I filled out listing all our dining times, allergies, reservation #'s etc., never made it into the system. The chef was a little peeved. Everything I wanted to eat was made at the same station as fish. She could tell that I was very frazzled and then went out of her way to help. She warmed up some Chicken and spaghetti in the back - it tasted awful. Then for dessert - she was hesitant to allow me to eat any dessert, but then remembered there was a flourless cake in the back. How do you eat dessert and not allow you son any of it, especially when he sees his sister and dad eating something. I guess I'm struggling with the whole food allergy thing. I don't think the dining plan is best for a child with an allergy. You certainly don't get your money's worth.
Day 2 - Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern. Excellent. Excellent waiter, the food was all safe...and yummy...and the character interaction was great. DS still a little loud, but our neighbors didn't mind this time. I'm so sad they are taking away the characters here. We opted for ice cream only for dessert, which was safe for my son.
Day 3 - Playhouse Disney, Hollywood n Vine. This was by far the worst meal of the trip. I didn't think the character interaction was great and the waitress came over to distribute our drinks next to my ds. Let's just say that the drinks didn't make it to the table. Same thing with the desserts, we couldn't eat them around my son b/c he couldn't have them.
Day 4 - 1900 Park Fare - this was a great meal. We ate around 11am. We didn't have problems finding food for my son.
Day 5 - Chef Mickey's - Another great meal. No problems with the food allergies.
Day 6 - Crystal Palace. Excellent. Probably our favorite. The food was great - loved the salad bar. My son ate plenty and had ice cream for dessert. We also celebrated his bday here so they brought him a peanut free brownie with a candle on it.
I hope this helps with planning your trip.
