**Just Back: My BC and GF Concierge review**

Misti, welcome back!! :) Thanks for your detailed reports, sounds like you had a great time at BC. I would love to stay there some time. :D Sorry about your GF experience, it stinks when you pay so much to be disappointed with anything. Can't wait to see your pictures!!:sunny:

I stayed at the Yacht Club several years ago and I enjoyed it. It is really a matter of decor more than anything. The one good thing about the YC is that you have a patio or a full balcony. You won't have to worry about the standing room only balconies as at the BC.

:)

Misti ~

So .. ALL of the balconies, even on the suites, at the Beach Club are standing room only balconies?????

LOL Sorry to be dense! :o but I just want to understand before I call and change the reservation.

Judi, you can get a suite at the BC with either a patio, full balcony, or standing room only balcony (junior, one- and two-bedroom suites). Both the Nantucket and Newport Suites have full BIG balconies. :)

Wow, what a popular thread Misti! but I guess that should be expected, as you are a great source! people trust your opinions!!!

that's awesome that you're going back in April! how long is your trip?? and are you staying at the Polynesian concierge???

My next trip is May 4-18th! one week at BWV, and one week at YC concierge! we currently have a studio booked at BWV, but are on a waitlist for a one bedroom! I hope we get it!! we never stayed in a 1 bdrm before !!! tell me, is it worth using almost double the amount of points!!?? I'm thinking probably yes! dh and I do love to spoil ourselves! do you think we'll love the one bedroom??

Thanks!!! :)

Laura :)

If you go to the top of the resort page and click on the FAQ thread, there is a YC/BC FAQ section. Within that FAQ there is a link to a map of the layout/rooms of the YC/BC. It shows which rooms have full balconies and gives floor plans for all of the suites.

Hi Judi!

Sorry about my ambiguous post. There are some balconies at the Beach Club that are standing room only, in bothe the Standard, Water/Pool and Deluxe category. Since you have to request a full balcony (and there is a chance you may not get one) at the BC, it is nice to be at the Yc and not worry about that being an issue. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Laura!! You are SO lucky to be going back for so long. :) I LOVE the BWV. I never want to leave when I stay there. I always joke to my DH that it would be great to have a one bedroom as a Disney apartment. LOL It is SO spacious. You'll love it. The studio is more like a regular resort room. The One Bedroom is more like a "suite". I'm not sure about it being worth double points but it is GREAT. :)

I'll just be at the Polynesian two nights, they are pre nights for a 4 day cruise. So, I just have a Garden View reserved. :) When I come back from the cruise, I have a post cruise night at the Beach Club.

thanks Misti! I just hope we get the one bdrm on the waitlist! :)
we always go look at the model of the 1 bdrm when we're at the BWV (stying in a studio) I just love the way they look! I'd take that as an aptartment ina minute!!!!!!!!!

I would love to do the DCL! I think we might next year!!! :)
ofcourse I want a suite (cat 3)! but I think we'll have to "settle" for a verandah room (cat 5 or 6)

have a fabulous time!!! :)

Laura :)

Thanks Misti and welcome back.

I always wondered about concierge and if it would make a vactaion more magical. With the exception of others uncontrolled children, it very well might!

I'd like to say I am surprised by the children's behavior and the lack of parental concern, but I guess finances alone cannot keep people from being ignorant. I am one of those parents who always cleans up the table, scrapes and stacks dishes and crawls on the floor to pick up my children's crumbs, and while I don't expect everyone to be that way I do believe in common courtesy. Kids drop stuff, but grown ups set the example with the appropriate reaction. As for the walking on furniture OMG my kids would have panicked waiting for me to reprimand!!!LOL:D

Have to agree with wondering what their homes must be like (I probably don't want to know!!!)

Laura--I have a Cat 4 for the cruise. I'll be taking lots of pictures during the cruise, too. Stay tuned. :)

Have a great time at the BWV! :)

Hi patsal,

Concierge really is a special treat. Although, I probably gained 5 pounds snacking in the lounge. LOL The desserts and cordials are a weakness for me.

The behavior situation surprises me, too. I'd be mortified if I had kids jumping on the sofa with their dirty shoes. They must have to get the sofa cleaned once a week in there. ;)

cat 4 is great! I am soooo envious!
I think those staterooms are gorgeous! of all the cruise ships I've seen pics of, I think DCL has the nicest rooms!!!
(I've only been on one cruise, that was a carnival 10 years ago with friends!!!) it's time to try again, this time in style!!!
I eagerly await your pics and review!!!!!!!!! :)

Laura :)

I have stayed conceirge at BWI, AKL & Poly. I also think of the GF as my favorite...but will reconsider concierge after your review.

Now BWI was our first concierge experience & they would not LET us clean our own tables. If they saw us they came running taking the dishes out of our hands. I assumed this was the norm & I have never seen an area to put my dishes in other lounges.

I found the AKL concierge staff stand-offish compared to BWI.

Misti - I'm so glad I caught your trip report because we just got home! :) Sounds like you had a great vacation, we did as well. ;) It's always disappointing to come home, but I missed my kids terribly. ;)

We are already starting to plan our trip for October. We will be taking the kids with us next time so we're trying to decide where to stay. I don't really want to go back to GF again yet, but the tower room was nice for our family since we have 2 small children. What would you recommend for a family of 4 with kids under age 3?? I'm thinking maybe a WL junior suite, a one bedroom villa at BW or BC, or maybe BWI deluxe concierge?? I'd love your opinion. ;)

Thanks for the review as we haven't stayed there yet. I was at GF at about the time you were there. We stayed at Sugar Loaf where the whole building was concierge. They also had some problems keeping up with their concierge service, which is in the main lobby. I attribute it to post 9/11 understaffing. The building is a lot more quiet than what you had. The room rate is lower than RP but, from your description, I would say the main difference is SLC does not have liquor.

I stayed at AKL concierge and it is over the top foodwise. They even invested in a $25,000 coffee machine. As to the place being "dark", a CM told me it was even darker before it opened but someone convinced the powers-that-be that there had to be more illumination. However, I am told guests still transfer out to other resorts because they can't live with the low lighting.

Of the concierge services we tried, I can't say enough about BWI. They made a series of phone calls to us weeks before we arrived to answer questions, make priority seatings and arrange any tours and show tickets we needed. At the resort, they guys were very friendly and the women fussed over us like mother hens...making sure we had everything, refilling our glasses and even giving us things to take back to our room. It was also the highest staff to guest ratio of the places we stayed.

Steve we did BWI/AKL in the same trip. The service at BWI was wonderful. MyDD cried when we left...the food was good at AKL but they ignore you!

Erika,
The Beach Club has deluxe rooms which has the extra sitting room, as the Tower room at GF had.

Also I think the kids would love to play in the sand area at the pool, at the Beach Club. I don't know if you have seen the pictures at www.disneypix.com that made our decision as the kids would love the pool. My kids cant swim on their own but they would love the kids slide and just playing in the sand since it's wet so that they can build their castles.

Whatever you decide, have a great time. I do love the WL though.

Hi Erika! Welcome home. :) The Concierge service would be great to have at the BW Inn. But, I have to say my favorite is the Boardwalk Villas One Bedroom Villa. It is SO spacious and feels like a suite. You'll have a kitchen which will help with small meals/snacks. I have some pictures here:

I always say that the One Bedroom Villa spoiled me. The jacuzzi tub, living room and washer/dryer are great conveniences. :)
