Just Back - Marriott Horizons & Nick Suites

Hope you had a great time! Was the Nick "spa" open when you were there? My daughter read about this on the internet. Apparently it is a kids salon to get thier nails done etc. Also, what was your overall impression of the Nick Hotel? Did your kids like it?

The spa was open. It didn't look like much - just a room where they do nails, braids and that type of thing. I have three boys so they were not interested and we didn't pay much attention to it. The boys loved the pools - their favorite was the Oasis. That is the one with the slides. We stayed poolside all day on Saturday and had a great time. My kids had a great time at the Nick Live Poolside, and were selected to participate. Even my husband got involved and was "slimed".

The food quality and selection left much to be desired. We did the character breakfast which was ok, but not worth the $ ($16 A, $8 C). I will not do it again. We go to Chef Mickey's every visit and continue to return, but the Nick character breakfast didn't even come close. The poolside BBQ was ok, but the buffet lunch and dinner was greatly lacking. The lunch ran out of food (we had to wait 15 minutes for replenishing of a chicken dish) and the seafood at dinner was not fresh. I guess the lunch was worth the money because for $25 we all ate, even if we had to wait. There is a seperate kids buffet which was good.

There was a lot of construction going on while we were there. Wet paint signs everywhere, men working on the elevators, rooms stuffed with furniture. I'm not sure when the grand opening is, but I can't imagine them being completely up and running soon. The food court was not open, nor did it look close to being ready.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but my husband and I both agree, we will not be back anytime soon. I'm glad I got the mousesaver rate, because I would be really upset if I paid rack rate - it would not have been worth it. I almost think the mousesaver rate was not worth it.

My kids really enjoyed it though, and would go back in a heartbeat.

Oh, so glad to run across your post.

We're going at the end of June/early July.

Could you tell us your experience(s) with the shuttle transportation to the Disney parks? Any tips? We're not renting a car (party of 10, so not a realistic option for us), so we'll be relying on the hotel's complimentary transportation. Was it efficient and reliable? Are all guests who need transport to the parks accommodated?

This is our first time staying offsite - and we're a bit nervous.

Thanks so much for any insight you can provide.

Our rate through Mousesavers was approx. $150 plus tax. When all was said and done I think it was about $165.

As far as the transportation, we had a car and didn't use hotel transportation. There was a schedule that looked like it ran to each park a few times each day. The bus stop at the hotel looked nice - there were benches and it was covered to protect from the sun and God forbid - rain.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

It's attached to Water Works?

We LOVE Horizons & can't wait to get back!

The new pool at Horizons was closed our entire stay. They said it would be up and running sometime this July.

How is the construction at Horizons? Does it affect you? What are the apartments like?

What pools do they have?

thanks for your help!

At first I didn't think I was going to like Horizons, but we really did have a nice time there and I would recommend it. The only other timeshare resort I have stayed at was Vistana Villages, and the decor. there was much nicer. We also found the VV to be quieter. At Horizons we heard people walking & talking outside and sometimes late at night (after midnight) it woke my kids up. In fact, the first night we were there, someone called the police because of some teenagers or young adults being very loud outside. Horizons was great for kids. The construction was not a problem at all, except for the noise at times but it wasn't too bad. The water park area was closed, but my kids really loved the Pirate Ship Pool. We had a two bedroom apartment which had a full kitchen, one bedroom with two full sized beds, one bedroom with one king bed, a bathroom off each bedroom, a living area and a dining area. There was also a screened in balcony, but no jacuzi (sp?). We ate pool side a couple of times and the food was reasonably priced and tasted fine. The property is gated with a guard on duty, and it was not far from the action (WDW or Universal). It is very close to Seaworld.

If you have any other specific questions I will try to answer them for you.
