We had 4 days at POR, were there last week this time. We (family of 3) were on DDP 3 out of 4 days.
I scoured these boards, changes our reservations many times based on things I read. While I totally understand, and agree, that food is totally subjective and opinions vary I thought I would share our experiences in case they can help others.
Day 1 Out of pocket. We arrive at 11 am to POR, make our way to DD.
Lunch: Earl of Sandwich
This is one of the places I would not have gone had I not read about it on the boards. We were very happy with our lunch here. We all got hot sandwiches, I had the "original" which was roast beef with horseradish. Very good. I also felt the prices were reasonable. Would DEFINATELY recommend and we would go again
Dinner: Hoop Dee Doo Review
Our first time. I was not happy to pay $165 for 3 of us to have a mediocre dinner but we wanted to do something fun and "Disney". We really enjoyed this. I told DD 11 when we were waiting that we just needed to let our hair down and go with it. Be ready to be silly. So we did. We had a blast.
As for the food I didn't have high expectations based on what I had read but it wasn't bad. Salad was uninspired but fine. Cornbread was good. We liked the fried chicken. The ribs were the one thing that was really awful. We eat ribs occasionally at home but these were full of fat. The dessert was also really not great, fair. THe sangria was good.
I struggled over what price seats to get and in the end I couldn't justify the extra money as they were already expensive so I got the cheapest. I told everyone going in that we would be in the balcony. When we get seated we are on the floor in the front third! It was not sold out so no one was in the balcony but the floor was full so I don't know why we were not in the back. I was so excited and felt liked we got pixie dust!
As for transportation: I got an email confirmation that said we needed to be there 30 mns before. We spoke to someone at POR who told us how to get from DD to FW and she said we would need to allow 1.5 hours. So we left DD at 2 for our 4 pm seating. We so didn't need to do that! We were there in 30mins. As for being there 30 mins early they took photos but then did not open the doors before 4 pm so we wasted a lot of time.
Overall not something we will do again soon because now we have seen it but was worth the money and we were all glad we went.
day 2 MK (on DDP for the rest of the stay)
Breakfast at POR, out of pocket
Lunch: Columbia House
Again I insisted we eat here because of what I had read. We were all happy with this lunch. I got fried shrimp, came with ff's. Generous portions. DP got salad with chicken, very happy with it. DD got lobster roll, also happy with it.
Dessert choices poor. We got choc cake and apple crisp.
Snacks: DD had a Mickey Bar. I had a root beer float that I got in fantasyland, near Pooh ride. Great use of snack credit!
Dinner: Chef Mickeys
By far the worst meal we had the whole time.
We are not fussy eaters. I could barely find something that was good enough to eat. Meat in particular bad. I had beef, it was dry, fatty. They gave such a small slice if I ate around the bad parts I got 3 bites. Salad not even as good as the salad in a bucket at HDDR. Waiter nice, characters fun but the food was LOUSY. DD 11 is less into characters than when she was younger but we thought she would enjoy this. She did but it wasnt' worth it. No way we would go there again.
Day 3 DHS
Lunch: called Rosie something, adjacent to Eddie's Cantina
We all got hamburgers, ff's. They were fine. Dessert was choc cake or carrot cake. Dessert honestly at Columbia house and this place were not worth the effort of lifting the fork. And definately not worth the calories. I mean SERIOUSLY? The dessert part is a joke at these places. If we were not on DDP no way we would have paid money for it.
Snack: Starring Rolls.
DD and I share a butterfinger cupcake. Yum! DP gets Tiramisu. Also yummy. Happy with our use of 2 snack credits
Dinner Cape May
My favorite meal the whole time. Again a place I would never had thought of had I not read the DISboards. We loved walking around the boardwalk. LOVED the buffet. I made a meal of crab legs and clams. I kept going back. THe crab legs were large, good! DP didn't eat any seafood but was happy with choices. LOVED the white sangria! Desert buffet was also good. Highly recommend!
Day 4 Epcot
Lunch Seasons in the land
Plenty of choices. DD and I had Asian sweet and sour chicken with rice, DD substituted bnoodles. It was fine, not bad , not the best in the world. DP had a sandwich which looked really good. Desset here was awesome! Real dessert choices. DD got large M and M cookie, I had cheesecake, DP had creme brulee. All good.
Dinner Chef de France
I worried most about this meal prior to arriving because of all I read (everything from people who didn't like the food to bad service). We enjoyed it. Our waitress was great, very friendly, attentive. We did not feel we were waiting ever. I had lobster bisque, loved it, short ribs, very good and choc cake. DD had mac and cheese which she liked but she ate half and was stuffed. I had a bite. It was good but heavy. DD ordered profiteroles but by the time they came she was stuffed. I left my choc cake and ate her Profiteroles They were AWESOME! Highly recommend that dessert.
Remy: Only time I could get for ADR was 6 but I read here that Remy comes around at 5:40 and you need to be seated. I kept checking and when a 5 pm opened I leapt on it. I didn't tell DD. Remy was a KICK! DD was delighted; actually we all were. Highly recommend seeing Remy if you can
DP and DD list this as their favorite meal at Disney (mine was Cape May)
Day 5 check out
we have 5 snack credits left and we use them for breakfast : bagel, croissents, warm cinnamon bun, banana.
Feel free to ask questions! Hope this helps someone!
