I will be posting a more in depth trip report, but wanted to say what a great trip we just had. Although a dark cloud hung over our trip as my boss (and good friend) just had a single mastectomy prior to my leaving. She had to have further surgery while I was at WDW to remove her lymph nodes (all those came back clear, thank the Lord!)
I did want to tell you about a minor incident, and how 4 great CM's took care of it for us. I've already sent a letter to WDW to thank them specifically.
Our trip was mostly to celebrate my son-in-law's return from Kuwait safe and sound on Oct 5. The members of our party were my husband and I, Sarah (my oldest daughter from Kansas), her husband and their baby, Camdyn, and Kimmi (my youngest daughter stationed in Oklahoma), her husband and their daughters, Ireland and Chloe. Steve and I arrived early on 10/26, and Kimmi and Chris arrived 10/30. Sarah and Matt arrived 11/1 and Kimmi and Chris left 11/3. Then, the rest of us left 11/5. A little crazy, but it worked out well.
On Friday, when Kimmi and Chris left, Ireland was not feeling well. A minor "intestinal distress" affected a few members of our party, and Ireland got it on Friday. She was just a little cranky and had a number of extra diaper changes. Because of this, her mom allowed her to remove her My First Disney Bear, Bob, from the backpack and carry him. He remained out most of the day, and she kept good track of him.
I purchased Bob at WDW before Ireland was born (fall 2004), and she's slept with him since she was old enough to sleep with stuffed animals. She's almost 2 (11/17) and has really grown attached to Bob. Bob never leaves her bed, but she does sleep with him every night. He is well loved.
They left on the DME at 4:30, and I got a call from Kimmi at 6:30. She had just realized Bob was missing. They left him (along with a new stuffed Donald and Goofy) on the bus. Ireland was crying in the background wanting Bob.
As soon as we returned to Saratoga Springs, I went to the DME desk and talked to Tiffany. She made many phone calls and was unable to locate Bob. She did file a report and gave me a claim # and phone # to call. She really did try hard to locate him, but she assumed the bus hadn't returned yet.
On Sat, Bob was still not found.
On Sunday, before boarding DME to go home, I went to Concierge at Saratoga Springs (that's where Tiffany told me to inquire while still at WDW) to inquire, again, about Bob's whereabouts. Rusty, in Concierge, was so helpful. Once I told him the story, and explained how important this Disney Bear was (they don't even make them like this one anymore, Bob's much softer and has a different outfit), he went right to work. He called a bunch of different numbers, even the airport lost and found, and, after about 45 minutes, he was able to find Bob. Bob was being transferred from the airport Lost and Found, where the DME bus driver took him, back to DME. Rusty then gave me the claim number again and a new phone number to call, once we returned to Colorado.
On Monday and Tuesday, back in Colorado, I was unable to call. Work was crazy due to the fact that I'd been gone for 11 days, and my boss was recovery from two surgeries (it's just her and I in a busy law office.) When I got home on Tuesday, I had a message from Charley, a DME supervisor. I called him this a.m., and he was so happy to talk to me. He said they found Bob (even using that name.) He said it was a high priority considering how sentimental it was. He just needed to verify where to send it, so transferred me to Marie. Marie also told me how happy she was that Ireland and Bob would be reunited. She said by looking at Bob, she could tell this bear was well loved and would be missed. She said it would be sent via UPS today. I received a call from UPS today and they said it was on the way.
So, tragedy averted and all is well. I think that Ireland getting Bob back will be her best birthday present!!!
