Our family just returned from our first-ever trip to the World! It was so great! We are from Liberty, Texas, near Houston. Just me, DH, and our DS, age 9 1/2.

We left Sunday 7/24 around 7:30 a.m. No problems on the road at all. We were making good time so around lunchtime we detoured a little bit from I-10 and drove the scenic route from Gulfport to Biloxi. Had lunch at O'Charley's in Biloxi overlooking the Gulf, near the mall. Spent the afternoon driving and made it to Tallahassee around 7:30. I read Bridget Jones' Diary while DH drove. It was hilarious! We spent the night at La Quinta. DS loved the hotel room. I said, "If you like this, just wait until we get to our resort!"

Got up early and were on the road by 8:00 or so Monday. No problems getting in to Orlando. I finished my book just before we got to the CBR. There was a long line at the Custom House but it moved fairly quickly. Our room wasn't ready but we got our room cards and moved the car to the parking lot outside our village. Then we hopped on the bus and went to the Magic Kingdom.

The first time you see Cinderella's castle is a breathtaking moment. The castle is so beautiful. The Cinderellabration show was going on when we got there, and the music and costumes just puts a lump in your throat. We made our way to Tomorrowland and got fastpasses for Space Mountain.

While we were waiting for our return time, we went on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. This is a very gentle ride and it gives you a nice overview of Tomorrowland, just what we needed as first-time visitors. DH wanted to go on the Carousel of Progess, so we did that. I was itching to get off, but oh well. It's his vacation too. It got stuck at the end and we had to repeat the last scene. Hurry up, I kept saying to myself!

We were hungry, so we ate at Cosmic Ray's. DH and DS got into the chicken line and I got into the soup/salad line. I had a bacon turkey wrap and some grapes. This was the point in the trip where I was still trying to stick to my diet. I have been on the South Beach Diet for a year and a half and I've lost 50 lb. Part of my motivation was this trip! I wanted to fit comfortably into the rides!

After lunch it was time for Space Mountain! We got into the fastpass line along with a whole bunch of Brazilian teenagers. They were all over the park. But they were OK. While we were in line, the lights suddenly went on and we heard this announcement: "Space travelers, you are in a holding pattern until further notice!" We surmised that the ride had broken down and we would all have to get out of line. I was bummed, because I wanted to finish up Tomorrowland and Fantasyland that afternoon. I figured there was no way we were going to do that now. 15 minutes passed, and there were no further announcements. People were getting out of line. I didn't know whether we should or not. Then, the lights went back out and the line began moving again! Hooray! The ride was evidently fixed, either that or the vomit had been cleaned up! When it was our turn to board the ride -- guess what? Front seat! Boo-ya! DS wanted in the middle, so I got in front! What a thrill! We all loved it!

After that ride, DH and DS went on the Indy Speedway and I went shopping. I got DS a lanyard, some pins, an autograph book, and a pen. I got him a couple of Star Wars pins. We looked for Darth Vader but couldn't find him. After Indy Speedway we walked around Tomorrowland a little more and then it was time for dinner.

Dinner our first night was Chef Mickey's. I had heard this was a good choice for your first night because it gets you into the Disney mood. We rode the monorail to the Contemporary. Dinner was a blast! We had our picture taken and we bought the entire package. No way was I going to let any of that go! All the characters were fantastic. I flirted with Goofy and told him I had loved him all my life. He acted embarrassed and covered up his eyes with his ears! So funny! When Mickey came around I was so excited. I rubbed his ears and he acted like he didn't like that. Then he rubbed my ears. Funny! DS got all their autographs. He decided he liked Chip and Dale. I couldn't figure out why he liked them so much, he's never really seen them on cartoons. He said he liked them because they were chipmunks. I was surprised how much he liked the characters, since he is already 9. But he enjoyed getting their autographs and we got some great pictures!

After dinner we rode the monorail back to the MK. More pixie dust: We got to ride in the front! Our driver was very informative and friendly. But we didn't get any certificate when it was over. Hmm? We got to the MK just in time for the Spectromagic parade. We carved out a little piece of concrete and squeezed ourselves in. The parade was fabulous. The fireworks afterwards were breathtaking. I was in tears. I was thinking about my Dad. He just passed away last April and I was remembering how much he loved to take my sister and me to amusement parks when we were little. I felt his presence very strongly during that fireworks show.

A perfect ending to a perfect first day! Tomorrow is our first full day and we can't wait!

Nice to hear you had such a great time. Thanks for posting. We check into CBR next Thursday. Hearing your story makes us count down the minutes even more. Where in CBR was your room? :sunny:

Hi, jndmommy! We were in Aruba in bldg. 54. We had asked for Martinique or Trinidad North, but nothing was available. Our room was OK. We were near the bus stop. Turned out we liked that just fine! Hope you have a great trip!

Tuesday, 7/26 - Our second full day was the day the space shuttle was scheduled to lift off. DH had decided he wanted to see it, so I agreed. It’s his vacation too, right? So we got up early (but not early enough!) and headed toward Cocoa Beach. The traffic was terrible. We were just crawling along. We got off 528, which takes you out to Cape Canaveral, and got on 512. Traffic was moving for a while, but soon we were bumper-to-bumper. We had tuned to an AM radio station and were following the news about the liftoff. That worked out well. We learned that traffic was stacked up on all the roads in the area. The liftoff got closer and closer and we realized we weren’t going to make it to Cocoa Beach. With 5 minutes left, we found ourselves in the town of Cocoa. We decided to just get out and look north. We parked in a bank parking lot and hoofed it across the street, following some other people. We ended up in a pretty little marina. DH called his father back home on the cell phone and he told us how much time was left. We counted down to zero and voila, right over the water, we saw it lift off! Very thrilling! I got the whole thing on video! Then after a few seconds the shuttle disappeared into a cloud and we never saw it again!

We headed back to the CBR and got ready to go to MGM Studios. I had wanted to get there early for morning EMH, but oh well. In our hurry DS forgot his autograph book. So we didn’t get autographs with Buzz, Woody, Sully, or any of the other characters that day. Waaahh!!! We had made a PS at Sci-Fi Dine-In for 12:50 but we were about an hour late getting there. No problem, they honored our PS and we got to eat there. Very cool! DS loved the glowing ice cube in his drink. He played with that all day. DH had gotten us all fastpasses for Star Tours before lunch, so when we were finished eating we did that ride. This was the ride DS had been looking forward to ever since he found out we were going to Disney World. He was not disappointed! That ride was awesome! We all loved it! After Star Tours we decided to catch the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show. There were no fastpasses and we were told to come back at 3:15 to wait in line for the 4:00 show. I wanted to ride the Rockin Roller Coaster but the boys didn’t, so I went to get a fastpass for that and decided to meet back up with them after the show. I got my fastpass and went back to the show and people were still going in, so I decided to go in too. Can you believe, when I was going in to the show my DH spotted me?! I was able to meet back up with them in that huge stadium! Couldn’t be anything but pixie dust at work here! The show was wonderful, but hot. After the show we saw the Muppet Vision 3D show. DS didn't care anything about seeing it, but I insisted since we were so hot and I knew the place would be air conditioned. We all ended up loving it! Next, I went to ride the RnR and the guys did Star Tours again. They met me at the exit to the RnR (which I LOVED, my fave ride of the entire trip!) and it was time to go to dinner. We did not ride the Tower of Terror. I don’t particularly like rides that drop. If we had had more time I would have done it, but it just didn’t work out for us this time. Next time for sure!

We took the bus from MGM to the AKL, where we had a PS for Boma. We walked around the lodge while we were waiting for our table. It is so beautiful! We saw some giraffes and other animals. DS said he wanted to stay there the next time we come. Hopefully we can find a good deal! I would love it too! The food at the buffet at Boma was incredible. I’ve never had such exotic and delicious food. The diet went out the window from that point on. I especially loved the coconut crab curry soup. DS ate mac & cheese and chicken tenders. He is a picky eater and hates new food. Oh well, I ate enough for both of us!

After dinner we took the bus from AKL back to MGM and caught the 10:30 Fantasmic. DH just kept saying, “This can’t be done!” It was the most awesome thing any of us had ever seen. We loved every minute of it. We got back to our room around midnight. Day 2 is now history!

Wednesday, 7/27 was morning EMH at MK. We got to the park around 8:00 and headed straight for Frontierland. But it wasn’t open yet! I was confused. The CMs told us Fantasyland and Tomorrowland were open, so we went to Fantasyland and walked on all the rides we wanted to. Peter Pan’s Flight was very cute. I even talked the boys into going on Small World with me! They kept saying they wouldn’t do it but they did! We saw Mickey’s Philharmagic and were all blown away. After doing everything in Fantasyland that we wanted to, we headed to Frontierland. We got fastpasses for Splash Mountain and waited in the standby line for Big Thunder Mountain (20 minutes which would up being more like 10-15). We all liked that ride quite a bit! Even DH, who claims he hates roller coasters! After that we waited in the standby line for Haunted Mansion. Less than 20 minutes. Getting there early is the only way to go! I loved the Haunted Mansion ride. Very well done. Then it was time to use our fastpasses for Splash Mountain. Yeah! What a great ride! It was so much longer than I expected. Loved it! Did Pirates of the Caribbean in the standby line (not bad at all).

Ate lunch at the Mexican counter service spot and used a fastpass for the Jungle Cruise. After that the park was getting hot and crowded. We rode the train from Frontierland all around the park and got off at Toontown Fair. We walked through Mickey's House and enjoyed that a lot. We took a look at our map and decided that we had seen everything we wanted to see, so we decided to go back to our resort for a swim. We really hadn’t seen any of our resort since we checked in, so we took the afternoon to do that. But before leaving I took a little detour and got myself a Dole Whip! Yummy!

We sat next to a couple on the bus that had a son who looked about our son’s age and I struck up a conversation with them. Their boy was 11 and our boy is 9. We decided to meet up at the pool that afternoon. The boys hit it off and were soon having a blast going down the waterslide together. The parents got lounge chairs next to us and we spent the afternoon getting to know them. They are from Toronto, very cool for us because we are from deep East Texas. We don’t know any Canadians and they probably don’t know too many Texans. The mom had the Unofficial Guide and was poring over it. Another thing we have in common! I’m obsessed with mine too! They said they were going to Epcot the following day and I said, “So are we, why don’t we meet up and the kids can ride together?” Everybody agreed! What fun to have new friends to tour with!

Dinner Wednesday night was Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge. I told DH it would be simplest if we just drove our car there from our resort. No problem getting there, once we found the right “green line” to get on after passing through MK! The lodge is beautiful, DS loved it more than AKL. I had read a lot about the shenanigans the servers do at Whispering Canyon and I was looking forward to having some fun. But they seated us in the back, outside of the main dining room, and I was a little disappointed. I was told that the waiters do funny things when kids ask for ketchup, so I told DS what to do. He asked for ketchup and his face was beaming expectantly; the waiter brought 2 bottles and just set them down without saying anything. Hmph. Oh well. At least the food was good! Diet went out the window again! More cornbread, please!

After dinner we had decided we wanted to go to Downtown Disney and look for the Darth Vader pin, so since we had our car we tried to drive there. Our dinner was late and it was getting to be 9:45. I knew the shops closed at 11:00, and of course we got lost and totally turned around, so we decided to just go back to our resort and look for a gift shop there. We went into Old Port Royale for the first time and were pleasantly surprised! I loved the gift shop and market area, and DS loved the arcade! DH bought him a card for the arcade and they played games while I shopped. Loved it! We closed that place down and got to bed around 11:30.

I'm so glad ya'll are having such a good time. I hope you enjoyed your scenic drive through my neck of the woods. :moped: We are taking my niece for her first trip to the world next Jun. I can't wait.

Hi LAS! Yes, we enjoyed our little detour on the MS Gulf Coast! The day we left, we drove from Orlando to Bay St. Louis and spent the night at Casino Magic. We aren't big gamblers but we had a good time! I played a little video poker and a little slots. When I was $25 ahead I cashed out! DH waited until he was about $60 ahead before cashing out! Looking forward to going back!

What a lovely report :)

I could feel the magic of your trip!

Hi Miffy! So much magic! This has been my best vacation since my honeymoon. Pixie dust galore! Wish I was still there!

Thursday morning 7/28, it’s time to tour Epcot with our Canadian friends! We ran into them in the waiting line outside the park entrance. They checked our bags and let us in. Our first rope drop! The characters arrived on a double decker bus and the cast members directed us right to our first ride: Test Track! No fastpass needed! It was GREAT, probably my second-favorite ride of the whole trip! All 6 of us got to ride together. The ride exit area was great, too. Lots of fancy cars to look at and go in. After that we did Mission Space. No fastpass needed again! OMG, what a fabulous ride! I’ve never been on anything like it. Out of this world! We had our group of 6, and they split us up into 2 groups of 3; I had both the boys with me. Fun, fun, fun!!! After that we got fastpasses for Soarin with a 1:00 return time. Then we did Living with the Land (standby line, not too bad). We took a lot of pictures of the fabulous plants growing there. It was time for lunch and I wanted to go into the World Showcase and eat at one of the restaurants in one of the countries, but our Canadian friends said it was too far to go since our Soarin return time was 1:00 and we decided to eat in the Land area. DS turned his nose up at everything in the food court so we had to take him somewhere they had chicken tenders. We ended up at Electric Umbrella. I was going to get a wrap but the hamburgers looked so good! So we all had one! By now the diet is completely shot and I am completely happy!

After lunch, we went on Soarin. It was a blast! It wasn’t scary at all, I found it to be very peaceful. I think I am cured of my fear of heights! After Soarin we headed to the Living Seas. It was then that my DH said, “Oh my God! Where’s the camera?” Our stomachs sank. We traced back in our minds the last time we knew we had it. I remembered seeing it on the table at Electric Umbrella. DH said, “I left it in the compartment on Soarin!” Oh God. I didn’t know whether to be more upset at the thought of losing the camera, or all our vacation pictures. DH made a beeline back to Soarin and the rest of us went to Living Seas. He said he would call me on the cell phone when he got back to the ride. My cell phone was almost dead, but we didn’t have much choice. I hated splitting up but he took off so fast, there was no stopping him. When we sat down for the movie before Living Seas, I called him. He said, “I got it!” I couldn’t believe it! Someone had found our camera and it was taken to Guest Relations. My DH caught the cast member just as he was coming in with the camera in his hand. Talk about pixie dust! I knew Epcot visitors weren’t the kind of people who would steal a camera; surely anyone who found it would turn it in. We were so lucky! For the entire rest of the trip I constantly asked him, “Do you have the camera?” He said he deserved it!

We met up outside Spaceship Earth, with our camera securely around DH’s neck. The six of us went on the ride. Very cool! We worked in Journey into Your Imagination and Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. That show was a blast! I loved the part that had everybody screaming! After that the park was getting hot and crowded, so we headed back to the CBR and went swimming. We did not go to the World Showcase part of the park at all. We were planning to come back that night for dinner and Illuminations, and I had hoped we could get there early enough to walk around the countries a little bit. But Mother Nature had other plans! When we were in our room showering, it started storming outside. Heavy rain, wind, lightning, the works. Our dinner PS was for 6:40 and it became clear that we weren’t going to make it. We had no umbrellas or ponchos and no desire to get real wet. So we decided to wait until it stopped raining.

We finally got back to the park about 7:30 and made it to Le Cellier at 7:40, an hour late for our PS. They were so accommodating! They said, “No problem, we’ll call you when your table is ready.” Whew! I had a stupendous filet mignon with mushroom risotto and a lovely glass of Merlot. DS had his usual, chicken tenders, and DH had the strip. My meal was the best! After dinner we walked around the World Showcase a little bit until it was time for Illuminations. We chose a spot high up on a bridge. The show was very good. After Illuminations the park was open late for evening EMH, so we went and did Mission Space again. Just as much fun as the first time! We took our time in the exit portion of Mission Space and played a game where you have to solve puzzles on a screen and upload them for your team. Our team, Orion, naturally won! I could have stayed there a long time. We also did the little video postcard that you can email home. Very fun also! We tried to do Test Track again but the line was an hour long and no fastpasses were being distributed. So we went and did the Living Seas again, this time with Daddy, and then went back and collapsed in our beds. Tomorrow is our last day! Can’t believe it!!!

Friday, 7/29 – Animal Kingdom day! We got to the park in time for rope drop. Very cool again! Hotfooted it to Kilimanjaro Safaris and did that ride with a very short wait. Pixie dust kicked in again and we got to ride in the front! We enjoyed the animals very much, especially the elephants. After that we went to Dinoland intending to get a fastpass for Dinosaur; we discovered the standby time was 5 minutes so we went ahead and did the ride. Very cool! DS was hiding his head and missed the last big dinosaur! Our photo was very cute! After Dinosaur, we went and got fastpasses for Kali River Rapids, then went to Donald’s Breakfastosaurus. We had made a PS for 10:30, turning this into a brunch. The food was awesome! The diet was completely blown, so I stuffed myself and then asked them to fix me an omelette. DS was perturbed because there were no chicken tenders; he doesn’t like any breakfast foods except sugary cereals, so he complained and moped around a lot . . . until the characters came out! Then he perked up quite a bit! He got more autographs and photos, this time a photo of all of us with about 3 characters (Christmas card photo?).

After brunch, we rode the Primeval Whirl (standby line, only about 15 minutes) and then saw It’s Tough to be a Bug. Very cute! I loved all the surprises! By this time it was time for us to do the Kali River Rapids, and we were hot enough that we didn’t mind getting wet, so we went ahead. We didn’t care for that ride all that much. The scenery was ugly (burned and poached rain forest!) and the ride was too short. If you like getting drenched, you’ll like this ride. After our soaking, we walked through the Jungle Trek. We enjoyed this a lot and got a ton of beautiful close-up pictures of animals and birds. Very fun and very much a surprise! We made our way over to Festival of the Lion King, a show that absolutely blew me away. Lion King has always been special to me because it was just coming out on video when I found out I was pregnant. I bought my baby the video when he was a 6-week-old fetus! His nursery was decorated in a jungle theme and his mobile played “I Just Can’t Wait to be King.” I can still hear it in my head! The show was fabulous and I was in tears again. There was nothing that could follow that, so we decided to call it a day and head back for a rest.

We swam at our village pool and found it much more relaxing (not to mention closer!). After that, DS actually got into bed and took a nap for about an hour while we showered. Then we all got dressed and headed for Downtown Disney. We had a PS at Fulton’s Crab House and it was just wonderful. During our dinner it rained but by the time we were finished it had stopped, so we headed out for some shopping. We looked for the Darth Vader pin but no luck. The CM at Pin Central gave me the item number to order it online. DS was fading fast but he perked up a little bit when we went to the Lego store. We got a cute picture with the Lego family. DS bought a really cool Star Wars plane which he enjoyed putting together in the car on the way home Saturday. DH bought a really nice button-down Mickey Mouse shirt and I bought 3 beautiful Christmas ornaments. I could have shopped until midnight, but DS was just exhausted so we went back to our room about 10:00. Tomorrow we go home!

What an awesome trip report! Thanks for posting and I'm glad you and your family had such a great time! Just makes me more excited for my trip in Sept... :)

Hi ScoJo! I wish I was going back in September! I know you'll have a great time!

Saturday, 7/30 – it’s time to leave. Sigh. We had a receipt under our door; we were already checked out. We gingerly opened the bill to see how much the damage was. Not too bad! I think we actually stayed within our means! We packed the car and headed out. DS said he felt terrible. We told him to stretch out in the backseat and put his head on the pillow. He got worse. He said, “My stomach hurts. I need to go to the bathroom.” Before we could make it to the next exit, he was puking into a plastic bag. Poor baby! He was absolutely Disneyed out! He used his Lego bag. He said, “Good thing we bought something at the Lego store so I could have this bag.” LOL! He felt better after that and slept most of the next few hours. I had checked out some books from the library and began reading “The Five People You Meet in Heaven.” This is a good book to read if you want to feel sad! I was crying when I finished it! I had to close it for a few minutes before I could go on, I was so choked up! I napped on and off all afternoon, too. We made it to our planned stop, Casino Magic in Bay St. Louis, MS. We enjoyed our evening there, taking turns with DS while the other one went into the casino. DH said he was going to win enough to pay for our trip. Ha! No such luck! We came out $80 ahead. I guess it’s better than losing! We pigged out on their scrumptious buffet, with delicious crab legs and three desserts each; by now the South Beach Diet was far from my mind. Uh-oh! The next morning it was Sunday champagne brunch, again with crab legs and plentiful desserts. This lasted us until we got back home, at 7:30. DS went directly to his friend’s house and I started on the laundry. It was good to be home after all!

P.S. – When I weighed this morning I was up 9 lb! But it was totally worth it! Back to Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet for me! And back to dreaming about our next trip!

Great report..sounds like a really good trip! All that good food! The extra pounds will come off quickly, and what fun you had putting them on! :goodvibes

9 pounds is no biggie really....soulds like you REALLY blew the SB diet!!! I know it was all worth it for you and as long as you did not have to go buy more clothes to fit you while at WDW who cares!!! :rotfl2: Congrats on your loss that is wonderful. Your trip sounds great! Thanks for sharing :maleficen

Thanks for sharing your report. I loved reading it. I just can't wait to take my kids to WDW in October.

Reading your report makes me so excited for our first WDW trip in Oct. I hope we can write some a great trip report as yours! :jumping1:
