For all of you out there with big familes contemplating staying off-site in a condo or suite - do it. We stayed at a friend's time share at Orange Lake - 2 bedrooms, 3 tvs, patio, w/d, the works. We could sit outside on our patio and have our coffee, feed the swans and it was so grwat. And then on Thursday we moved over to POR and we felt so cramped up in that little space. I had asked for ground floor, bayou building and got top floor Mansion. I hated it. Our villa was just 10 aminutes away and it was worth the $9 parking fee to know we could get away from the madness. From now on, we will stay off-site for any stay longer than 2-3 days.
BTW - for any one going this week - good luck. Checking out was such a nightmare. Cheerleaders groups cheering all over the lobby, luggage everywhere, :cheer2: it was chaos. I am so glad we were there last week.

We absolutely love Orange Lake too. We do timeshare exchanges there, but they have the rule where you can't exchange in but once every 3 or 4 years. My DD7 loves being able to walk around the lakes and look at the birds!

We like staying onsite too, but only at one of the monorail resorts is it worth it to me. It's just a different kind of vacation. When we stay at a timeshare, we plan for more time away from the parks, so that we can enjoy the resort.

Timeshares are great. We've enjoyed OLCC, Sheraton, Embassy Grand, and are staying at the Beach Club villas this trip. I couldn't ever stay in a room, or even two connected for more than a day anymore. I like breathing room!

We stay at a timeshare every year--Star Island. We love all the room our condo offers us, being able to sit on the back porch and relax, and just be able to have a place to go and get away from everyone else if we need to.

I think that's great. That's the wonderful part about Disney, everyone can do what makes them happy about visiting. By your title, I thought you were done with "Disney" and was in a bit of disbelief.

After further reading, it's obvious you still love WDW, just not staying on site! I respect your decision (not that you needed it) but we spend such little time in our rooms (just to sleep and maybe a nap), that I can't imagine not being on site. The convenience of getting up and getting to the parks without a car is a big perk for us.

Going on vacation to Disney is doing what makes you happy. I'm glad you found a place you truly enjoy!

I'm another one who just couldn't imagine not staying onsite. I love being fully immersed in Disney. I'm glad that you had a great trip anyways and will plan on going back to DW. Now you know what makes you happy! I also was afraid that you were done with WDW and that saddened me. It's such a wonderful place filled with wonderful people. Anywhere else, I probably would like a bigger space, but at Disney I want to be right in the middle of it all!!!!!

I have to agree with the Original Poster.

My wife and I spent two weeks (15 nights) at WDW for our honeymoon at the CBR. While we loved the resort, I felt the rooms were really not worth the money. Now, I think if I could stay at a monorail resort, I'd pay anything!

We though the transit would be nice but, the buses are so slow in picking you up that we just drove. I didn't think waiting for a bus at MK for 45 minutes (after the park closed) to take me back to my resort was acceptable).

We stay in NICER hotels off-site now for 1/2 the price and we get to the parks quicker than if we stayed on site by driving our own car.

Completley off topic but your memory is so funny :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
That is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. Thanks for sharing it.

I am so glad to see I am not the only one who enjoys space even when you are on vacation. I forgot to add that although I can never get enough of Disney - but it was nice to relax a bit which I cannot do on Disney property because I get so caught up in the pace and scheduling that is Disney. It was fun finding another side of Orlando - Sea World, restaurants and especially shopping - wow. It was just like, just like, you know, a vacation.

I agree. We go to Disney every month and cant' get enough of it, but, we do find ourselves ready to leave each time that we do so.

One thing is, you get worn down at Disney, even when you are not in the parks. You just feel like you are go go go go go. I think it's nice to just go somewhere quiet, in a nice room, have a nice hot shower after a long day, put your feet up on a soft bed and just relax.

I am a very inquisitive person by nature (my wife is so reserved) and if it were not for my wife, I'd have a breakdown because I love to go go go go go, even though I am completely worn down. I am glad when she reserves a room off-site and we can just go and relax.

with Disney, most need a vacation from the vacation.

We have a small family (one child), but we love our breathing room too! We just got back from WDW, and did a timeshare trade at Cypress Point Grandvillas. The resort was nice, but DH accepted a one bedroom trade (or what RCI told us was a one bedroom) and it turned out to be more like an efficiency apt. One TV, one double bed, and a kitchenette with a fold out couch. My DD7 complained the whole time that she had to "sleep in the kitchen"! Oh how I longed to be in a 2 bedroom golf villa at Orange Lake!

If space is what you are looking for there are also rental homes that are very close by and give you room and your own private pools and spas.

I have a similar place that I stay, king sized bed, washer and dryer, full kitchen, large balcony/patio, etc. But mine IS on WDW property. It's called OKW.

Me too, but I don't stick to just one resort.

However, many of the off prop villas and homes you can rent are much more affortable then DVC, or at least if you want to pay only for what you use when you use it. (instead of buying into DVC.)

I am one never to say never. But for now on prop and DVC is for me. If I had a very large group and not enough points for a GV I might go that way. You never know. Glad it worked out great for you. :teeth:

Me too, me too--Beach Club Villa fan here. With DVC you can have the best of both worlds--large, comfy rooms with full kitchens, jacuzzi tub, washer and dryer---AND.....a three minute walk to Epcot!!!!!
