Hi,

We're just back from a week at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club and we had a great time! Admittedly, we were rarely there because we were on the go most of the time, so I really can't comment about resort amenites or kids' activities. We were not asked to attend a timeshare presentation at all. We stayed in a 2-bdrm lock out (studio unit plus one bedroom unit) on the 6th floor of the Warwick bldg. overlooking the small pool area. Lots of space for the 4 of us (DH, DD6, DS9, and myself), including 2 bathrooms, a large jacuzzi tub, a washer/dryer, 3 televisions, a full kitchen and a small efficiency kitchen (we didn't use the latter). The unit was well-stocked, including the kitchen and we didn't have to call to ask for anything. We did drive down so we had brought a few things with us (dishwasher and laundry detergent, etc.). We did not have housekeeping come in at all during our stay, though they do offer an optional mid-week cleaning for about $35 (I think). The resort is only a block or two from the I-4 on ramp, which was very convenient as we easily hopped on the highway and arrived at WDW in 15 min. or so. It is also within walking distance of Sea World. There is a Publix and an Eckerd down the road on Central Florida Pkwy. We felt having a car is a necessity here.

Now for the good part: the price! Thanks to these boards, I discovered the Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC) and was able to get the week we wanted (11/29-12/6) at the HGVC for $249 total!! They do require a $100 deposit at check-in, but otherwise there are no other fees or additional charges, except for the housekeeping (should you opt for it) and some of the scheduled activities (should you opt to do those). That works out to roughly $35 per night for 7 nights!! DH was told our unit usually runs $289 per night! Folks, if you are active duty or retired military, or a DOD employee, you really should check out www.afvclub.com. We found it to be a great deal for us.

I think I am one of the people who posted about that site. Another one is www.getravelop.com which is for government employees. I believe even local govt, state, county etc. workers are eligible. Great deals arent they?
