Hi All,
Just back from a week-long trip staying at VWL. Loved it there once again. We had a dedicated 2-bedroom on the 4th floor overlooking the DVC Mickey Topiary in the front of the building. There were 6 of us in the 2-bedroom and we had a studio for DH's aunt and uncle that was on the 1st floor.
Unfortunately, I think that the new room assigning didn't work well for us - got there at 3:45 and they had 2 rooms at the very end of the hall (dumpster view maybe) when I had requested near elevator as my first request. I should have stated that it was a medical request since DH's father and Uncle and had knee and hip surgery within the past year - I thought that the end of the hall would be too much after the parks. CM was very nice and accomodating, but unfortunately the only other rooms available at that time close to the elevators were on separate floors. I also would have preferred a pool view but really it worked out fine in front. I got to people watch on the balcony while my son napped.
I was surprised at how much there was for kids here as we didn't take advantage of some of the offerings previously. There were pool games some days and bedtime stories in front of the fire at the Mercantile others. Everyday they had crafts in the afternoon for kids at the cubs den (my daughter did this one day and really enjoyed it). The pool slide here is also a good length and speed for little ones (with some swimming ability). My 4-year old loved it and was able to wear the swim vest to use it.
Hmm, what else...Pool hopped to Grand Floridian (I called first). I like the WL pool better but the zero entry worked better when I was alone with the 2 kids (4 and 16 months). Ate at Artist point twice (staff was so helpful with the kids), WCC once and used the Health club once (to alleviate myself of WCC mudslide consumption guilt).
I thought that the service at the Lodge was wonderful. Room was in excellent condition and nothing missing. My toddler called the front desk (by accident, of course) and they connected him to Goofy! (recording, obviously - that must happen a lot.)
When we went to V&A's for our 10th anniversary dinner the valet offered to drive us to the Grand Floridian (had asked them to get us a cab). This is the 2nd time that they've done this for us - does this happen to anyone else?
The only thing that I hate about staying here is that it prevents me from staying elsewhere - I really want to try the other resorts (esp. OKW and BCV) but I feel that I'd miss the lodge too much. To me, staying at the VWL is more of an experience than a hotel stay - I just love the feeling that I get walking around - instant stress relief! Only negatives are the toilet flush that rivals the space shuttle launch and the ill-place toilet paper holder (1-bedroom bathroom) that no small child could possibly reach.
I miss it all already. DH said today that he'd like to go to the Sagamore next year - What?!? no Disney trip? I'll have to live vicariously through all of you for the next year

Sad to be home but glad to be remedying my board withdrawal!
