Just back from Transatlantic Cruise

Hadley, we went on a 3 day recently, and we received a cool red and black beachy bag that I use all the time. I think there was a key chain, cups, and a rice crispy treat. The second day, they left a wallet-travel planner, but not as nice as the 2007 TA's. Could be different on the TA, but thought I'd pipe in. NOTHING could beat that first TA. It was so wonderful!!! Are you going on the WB in Sept? We are still booked.

No we had to drop the west bound becuase Germany does not like kids to miss school (to the tune of making Marika repeat a grade and fining us 180 euros per day if we took it:scared1:)--so we will be on a 10 night Med cruise during their upcoming 2 week break instead.

Unfortunately the lost episodes that were on, were pre-recorded, and not live. However I'm guessing they'll do something special in one of the bars for the season finale.

Us Lost fans that will be on the Magic in the Med surely hope so! :happytv:

Don't get too happy about the Lost/Desperate Episodes - rather older ones were shown over and over....Hopefully you'll get recent episodes.

I just happened to find Barcelona dirty - trash in the streets, litter on the sidewalks and around the Christopher Columbus monument. AND, no pickup of dog waste - that is not confined to Barcelona - can happen anywhere....but come on people....And why do people spray graffiti on a wall that's been around since the Roman ages...found that in Florence, Italy. too...wish the people could appreciate the treasures they have in their own city!!

I was on this cruise too and loved it. I agree with liking all the ports except Barcelona. It could be because it was so crowded though.

I thought the sea days were wonderful and the entertainment was good. I loved all the adult shows they did. We all got a picture done by Don Ducky Williams that he made for the cruise and a box that is really pretty. I was very happy that we had good weather as I'd been worried about that but we had mostly calm seas. I want to do another long one now.

We were on the Eastbound translantic too - and we loved it - those sea days especially. Not so keen on losing that hour most sea nights though!!! We thought most of the entertainment was good. not so keen on the two American idol singers but thats down to taste
loved all ports but Barcelona let me down - cant really put my finger on it but just didnt live up to my expectations. Dont like crowds so that didnt help!!!
would love to do this next year but dont think air fares would let me!!!

Hello Fellow Cruisers!

We are still adjusting to being home but what a fantastic time we had. Nothing can compare to 6 sea days in a row, I could have enjoyed another 6 sea days after our busy second week in the Ports.

The ship was in beautiful shape, the crew was excellent in every way. The menus were good. Palo's was delightful. The entertainment was truly enjoyable, especially the first week and who had time the second week anyway right?

Barcelona is exactly as I might have guessed it to be, a big city that unless you are familiar with it will overwhelm you unless you have a plan. Our plan worked for us. In fact, we joked about being up and out early in the am being just like doing an "Extra Magic Hour" at WDW:rotfl: We got to see so much and with no crowds! Mid day was hectic to say the least but it was a holiday and many Barcelonians had the afternoon off and were out and about. The day of books and roses was enjoyable to see though. The architechture is so unique it is not to be missed. The huge centuries old market at the end of La Rambala was fasinating to see and wonder thru and pick up a snack or just gawk at all the fresh meats, veggies, fruits and fancy candy. The city buses, the HOHO buses, the subway system (forget what it is called)where all easy and affordable to use. I too, took the obligatory Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts pictures BUT we actually stopped in a local coffee shop and enjoyed a fabulous latte with a fun little European candy on our saucer to boot. Yummo. Just the extra shot we needed to keep touring. later in the day we found a yummy hot sandwhich in a smoke free eatery (hard to do in Spain for sure). Purchased some cheap sidewalk pastel art work that will remind us of our time wondering around the gothic district and so much more. . . loved seeing all the motos and bicycles too.

yeah, I guess Barcelona was my favorite Port:rotfl:

And if you are reading along cupcake &co? Maybe it was our fabulous table mates we shared the day with! Have you heard it's the Day of Books and Roses, Join In???? Sorry , inside joke for those who rode the RED HOHO line. . .

I was on the EBTA as well...with the comments about the entertainment, I wanted to add my thoughts on that topic. Disney Dream was wonderful and the Villians show was just OK - nothing special. Of the new/special offerings, the Once Upon A Song show was horrid - I mean, just terrible. I hope that one is never thrust upon any other passengers. Anyone else agree? Disagree?

Alfred and Seymore and Ricky Kalman were the best of the entertainers. Heath Heitch (sp?) had his moments, but his bit on the last night spoofing the WDW Indian Jones attraction was absolutely fantastic.

While I loved this cruise, my disappointments were strictly with the entertainment at times, and the tv selections. Leave it to Beaver, The Munsters, Bewitched, and Gilligan's Island over and over constantly on a loop. Willy Wonka - I can quote the dialogue now, I've seen it so many times....Lost, Desperate Housewives...they too were on over and over constantly.

In fairness, I did a lot of relaxing - books, mags, crossword puzzles, etc. but when I wanted to watch something, the above shows were all that were on or BBC news...

You would think they would have more recent TV on the ship, and not on a taped loop. I am sorry to hear this. But glad you had a relaxing time!

Yeah, not fun...
Does anyone know if the TVs on the ship are equipped with AV hookups to watch shows from iPhone/iTouch?

Hi Tinked!
You say you're across the river in NJ from Philadephia. Did you fly into PHL on your return? If so, what kind of flight did you end up getting? Airline?

I was on the WBTA also. I agree with most of the above comments with the exception of Barcelona. I found Barcelona to be great! It felt very cosmopolitan. I haven't seen so many people in one city since the last time I was in NYC. It looked like Valentine's Day with everyone buying flowers and books to give for St. George's Day. Every corner had tables draped with cloth in the Catalonia flag colors of red and yellow strips selling either long stemmed roses or books. and everyone was walking around with the flowers they received or had purchased. Very colorful. I loved that the street corners weren't corners but cut on the diagonal. It made the cross streets very open. I live across the river from Philadelphia and 100 miles from NYC, I was impressed with all their trash and recycling containers on every street. I didn't find it dirty. I thought it was a very pretty city. It was exceptionally crowded, even our guide commented on how many people were on the streets, but I never felt afraid. Sorry you were the victim of a pickpocket. I was very worried about that happening and am thankful it didn't.

The fireworks at the dock in Barcelona were spectacular as only Disney can do it. I just wish I had thought to do the 11 day cruise also. Six days at sea was fantastic!:dance3::dance3::dance3:

We were on the EBTA as well, and agree it was the vacation of a lifetime. We hardly ever saw our 14 year old (she lived at the Stack). Our 2 year old spent many evenngs in Flounders.
We felt DCL went well beyond our expectations on this our 3rd cruise with them. We weren't board one minute and loved every sea day. I'd recommend this trip to anyone.

I would love to know where those 14 days went. With the hour lost six days and all the stuff do to on board, the sea days just flew by. I can definately say, I could handle long cruise - longer than this one! I expected 14 relaxing days and that just didn't seem to happen. Oh well, it was a great vacation!

Oh I soooo hear you! makes me nervous to even think about the 7 day port intensve cruises now! Not even talking about taking any 3,4, or 5 day ones. oh dear! have to wonder if a short one would be good after a few days at WDW to relax from all the go-go-go of the parks? Now that might be an option!

I'm enjoying reading all these great reports. And since we'll be on the WBTA, these tips and hints are fabulous! :thumbsup2

Did anyone's kids do the sleep-over?

My daughters, 7 and 5, did the sleepover. I forget the exact time (and the times differed slightly for the club and the lab) but somewhere in the vicinity of 9pm they went to the club with a jacket (because they did activities on Deck 9), a pillow, a blanket, PJ's, etc. They both had a great time and wished there was a second one (there wasn't). By the time the sleepover happened, they both had met other kids and made friends, so it was fun for them to have a sleepover with friends.

The only thing that wasn't fun (for us parents) is that pick-up is at 7:30am the next day, so you had a bunch of sleepwalking dads on Deck 5 picking up their kids. The club and lab close from 7:30 to about 10am that day. Everyone went back to bed and woke up around noon! However, by this time we had been losing an hour of sleep due to time changes for several days - on the WBTA you will have the opposite, so maybe that means everyone will be up really early!

Definately sign up early so your kids don't risk getting closed out.
