DH and I just came back today from a two-night stay at the Wyndham Palace Resort and Spa at Downtown Disney. We paid $185 including tax through Hotwire, plus a 10 dollar resort fee per night. DH also chose to pay an extra 10 dollars per night for high speed internet access.
The hotel was pleasant and clean. The landscaping of the entire DTD hotel area was quite pretty. The public areas of the Wyndham are elegant and the hotel rooms are fairly average, size and décor-wise. We didnt use too many amenitiesskipped the pool, fitness center, and spa, so I cant comment on them. Bus service to and from the parks was great on Sunday, when they ran every half hour. On Monday, however, the bus schedule seemed to be once an hour (although the schedule stated every half hour), and when we caught the bus back from Epcot on Monday evening, it took exactly 60 minutes from the time the bus left Epcot to the time it pulled up to the Wyndham, due to the many stops it made and the length of time we spent sitting at each stop.
One amenity we did use and enjoy was the tiny balcony outside our room. We requested and received an Epcot view (other choices: Downtown Disney view or lake view), and were able to watch the Epcot and Magic Kingdom fireworks simultaneously from our balcony Sunday night at 9 PM!
The Watercress Café, the most inexpensive restaurant on the premises, was pricey by our standards (Over $13 for a waffle, another $2.50 for coffee or tea, etc.). While I generally dont mind paying a fair amount of money for excellent food, DHs twelve-dollar hamburger and fries were pretty mediocre. I did like the fact that their little market, though expensive (Gatorade $2.75, bottle of Heineken $4.75, sandwich about $7.00), stays open until midnight. The only restaurants within walking distance of the hotel are the ones at Downtown Disney about ½ mile away, so there really are no inexpensive places to eat within walking distance that we could see.
We didnt use room service, so my only comment is that room service was as expensive as one would expect, and a 20% fee PLUS another $3.00 service fee are added to the food bill.
Two minor problems (minibar key not given to us at check-in; no washcloths in bathroom) were taken care of, but each took a good hour to arrive at our door after we called the front desk. I got the impression that housekeeping is understaffed; used room service carts sat in the hallways for hours (didnt bother us, but I know that bothers some people).
Overall, we enjoyed our stay but didnt think the value for the price was exceptional. We would stay there again, but only for a bargain price (lowest price we could find on the web outside of Hotwire was $109 per night, still $29 per night more than we paid)say, $60.00 or less. I would choose a Value or Moderate Disney resort over the Wyndham if I didnt have a car. I think people who would actually use the resort amenities, such as the pool and fitness center, would enjoy this hotel more than we didthese amenities were wasted on us!
I would be happy to try to answer any questions people might have about this hotel!
