Hi there, just wanted to share my experiences at the Swan this past weekend!! My husband and I escaped to celebrate his birthday at the Food and Wine Festival and wanted to stay relatively close to WDW. We stayed at the Dolphin this past July and enjoyed our experience so we opted to try the Swan this time around. We arrived at the hotel at 3pm and our room was ready. The front desk attendant noticed we were celebrating my DH's birthday so she upgraded our room to a Resort view on the 12th floor!! Boy were we excited...room 1212!! Off we went to the elevators to see our room....We hopped on the elevator and when we got off we turned left towards our room. As we were walking, we heard hammering and a strong paint smell became overwhelming to both of us. As we approached our room we noticed that at the carpet was torn up next to the entrance and a plastic sheet was all that separated us from the construction area. I was rather surprised that they would put guests so close to the construction!!
We curiously opened the door and the minute we walked in, a horrid odor of mildew and must overtook our noses. I suffer from asthma and could not breathe. I looked at my husband and he said, "we can not stay here", I immediately agreed. We picked up the cordless phone, stepped out in the hall and called the front desk.
A wonderful clerk apologized profusely and immediately sent a bellman up to gather our suitcases and told us they had two rooms available: a handicapped accessible room on the ninth with a MGM view or a poolview on the sixth floor with a balcony. Of course we were happy to be moved and the bellman offered to take us to the 9th floor first. When we got off the elevator I was relieved to smell clean air, paint and dust free. We were taken to room 968, very close to the west elevators. When the bellman opened the door, I was so taken back by the changes that I saw. The room was recently renovated, the furnishings were updated, beautiful curtains, new paint and more subdued tones. It smelled so wonderful and looked so inviting!! The view was magnificent--we overlooked the front entrance of the Swan and also could see MGM and the waterway and the Orlando skyline. Because this was an accessible room the bathroom was twice the size of their standard bathroom. It has new fixtures, great bath and Body works toiletries, good coffee and tea selections, grab bars in every place you would need and even a shower bench as this room did not offer a roll in shower. We were so excited about the big bathroom and the extra space, we decided to stay in this room.
The quick response we received from the Front Desk really impressed us. We had such a wonderful stay after switching rooms. The halls were quiet at night with the occasional "ding" from the elevator doors opening. The room was cleaned flawlessly...housekeeping is really amazing. Our toiletries replenished, the maid even indulged my husband and left us additional goodies to take home!! The Westin is a wonderful couples retreat and the heavenly beds left us relaxed and renewed!! We did miss some of the ammenities that the Dolphin has...we loved Picabu and the Ice Cream shop!! One of the best secrets is that you can save 20% on your meals by showing your AAA card. We found ourselves eating many little snacks and breakfasts there...even pizza at 2am. The rest of our vacation we enjoyed eating around World Showcase at Epcot and the ultimate indulgence....Party of the Senses!!
Sorry this is such an exhaustive review but you always hear so many of the negatives and never enough of the positives!! We will definitely return to the Swan again and we hope you will give it a try too!!
