Just back from the Poly

Wish I was back there~what a fantastic stay.

I got every single one of my requests met regarding my room. I booked a Garden View and asked for Samoa, ground floor, corner, right across from the main pool. We got what I considered to be the best room in Samoa because it was right across from the pool, but since it was the corner is had some beautiful greenery and flowers which sort of blocked the view into our room to make it a little private when we had open the curtains. We also got the microwave we requested.

Only complaint~we called for turndown service one night because we had slept in the afternoon and though they said fine~nobody ever showed up. That was a little disappointing.

I found the room to be very clean and the housekeeper we had most of the days was a sweetheart~even made a huge towel elephant for my baby! The pool area got a bit crowded during the mid day, but not to the point where you couldn't find a chair.

Any specific questions, I'm here to answer them.:wave2:

How was the bus service to MGM and AK?

Glad to hear that you had a wonderful stay at the Poly. That's where we'll be for the first time in only a few more days. I'm excited!

We are thinking of staying in the Samoa bldg. for our June trip. Do you recall your room number? Do you think the 1st floor is preferable over the 3rd floor? Was the room musty at all? Did it seem refurbished? What was the color scheme? Sorry for all the questions! I'm rather picky, so I'm hoping not to be disappointed.
Thanks for you help.

hannahryan,we stayed in Samoa last summer and it was not musty in the least.

I only requested non smoking and first floor but when we were checking in and the CM told me we were in Samoa (where we stayed many times when our children were young), she also said it was the most requested longhouse. So if you get it, be happy; but if you don't enjoy the advantages of whichever one you do get. I really think that each one does have advantages.

To the OP, glad you had a great stay. Was it your first and do you think you'll return?

Bus service wasn't bad~it's just that is sucks compared to the monorail but it's the best you got so you deal with it. You will love it!

Yes, you can request a microwave but they don't have many so it's not a guarantee. There is one in Captain Cooks so if you need to reheat you can do it right there. I just requested it for my one year old who likes his instant oatmeal first thing in the morning.

Yes I remember my room number, it was 1610. I highly recommend the first floor, I loved being able to sit out on my patio and walk right out to the pool from my patio. You can't do that from the upper levels obviously.

The color scheme is just as you see in the pictures on the Disney site. The room was not musty at all. I can't imagine you being disappointed.

It was not my first time here~but it was my first time as a paying adult. DH and I told each other we don't think we could go back to the moderates now that we've been spoiled by the Poly. I can understand why Samoa is the most requested longhouse. It's right near the pools, the lagoon & the Great Ceremonial House. It's the most centralized location.

Oh, I snuck into Hawaii which is the concierge longhouse. I had to check out the lounge. It was okay, but nothing to rave over. Ok, I admit it, I took a cookie.

I am very much looking forward to my 10th wedding anniversary in 2006 - we are going to stay at Poly! In your opinion - what location should we try to avoid? I want the room in the picture on the Disneyworld website - you can see the monorail going by! Also, how was the parking (if you had a car!) - I have gone over to the restaurants to eat and have found parking extremely difficult!

Glad you had a great trip!

Welcome home! The Poly is my dream resort - I really want to stay there someday. ::yes:: I'm glad you had a nice stay.

That's it. I'm turning you in!! It's people like you that take things they didn't pay for that make places like the Poly so expensive for the rest of us:) :) . Okay, I'm just kidding.

Glad you had a great stay. DW and I got "upgraded" to the Poly in 2003 when they closed CBR for refurbishment. We loved the Poly so much. I understand what you mean when you say you don't think you could go back to the moderates. Unfortunately, I don't know if we'll be able to afford it next time. We got such a great rate last time that we'll never see again. Maybe I'll suddenly get a big raise at work::yes:: .

We stayed directly across the hall in 1611 in November ('03) and it was fine. No musty smell, nice patio, slightly quieter (I imagine) with only the rumble of the carts of food going to Hawaii Concierge.

I also liked being right by the door--very quick walk to the pool or beach for fireworks or the floating electrical parade.

Focusdude,
I think the picture you are referring to is a photo of the monorail going past the Aotearoa longhouse. Can you see Cinderella's Castle in the background? I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that the picture was "doctored" to make the Castle look closer than it really is. I stayed in Fiji and payed for a garden view roomand got a view of the lagoon, the wedding pavillian, and the Grand Floridian. The poly is as great as everyone says. ::yes:: I love it there!:wave2:

Glad you had a great time. We too love samoa and were in room 1602 in august. I agree, its the best location. Ground floor, right by the pool etc. It just can't get any better than Samoa!!:D

I am new at this so please bear with me. I have been to DW 3 times, but have only stayed at Fort Wilderness(last time in 92). I am going to the Poly for my honeymoon at the end of Sept. My future wife has never been there, and I have never planned a DW trip. We requested a GV in the Tahiti Longhouse with a refridgerator. I have a few questions:

Is this a good longhouse?
Are my requests going to happen?
Do you have any recommendations for our HM?

Any answers would be much appreciated.:hyper:
