Just back from the Poly - a great resort!

Thanks for the great review! I stayed at the Poly last December for the first time and I will be splitting my stay between CBR and the Poly in November/December. I have stayed at both and enjoy both of them, but I am definately more anxious to stay at the Poly again. As someone else posted.....the feeling of being at the Poly is indescribable!

The convenience of the monorail, Ohana's and Kona are great as well.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it so much!

Thanks for posting your review on the Poly. Dh and I are taking dd2 on her first trip to Disney and staying at the Poly in October. I can't wait to soak in the atmosphere and watch the fireworks on the beach! :cloud9:

I thought of a few questions- (I like to plan ahead as much as possible especially with a 2 yr old).

Did your dd sleep in a bed or in the pack and play? Our dd still sleeps in a crib so I am thinking of having her sleep in the pack and play.

Did you take mid day breaks from the parks so the kids could rest? Or did your dd sleep in the stroller.

How long did it take you to walk from your hotel room to the pool? From the map it looks like a short walk. What was your first building choice? My requests on the reservation are non-smoking, patio or balcony, bldg near GCH. Thinking that I should add a building request as well.

Did you need PS's for Kona and Ohana? I am planning on making one dinner PS for each. Didn't know if PS's were necessary for breakfast and lunch.

With the MYW dining plan did you use the table service meals for any character meals? What restaurants did your family enjoy?

TIA! :flower:

My DD2 slept with me! My DH and DD5 slept in the other queen and my DD8 dubbed the daybed as hers. That daybed is great.

We planned mid-day breaks for every day, but only took them 2 of the days because DD2 fell asleep in the stroller.

From our hotel room to the pool, it took us 2 minutes.

We had requested Samoa. There was nothing available but the second floor at the Rarotonga. I asked if there were anyother rooms that had balconies anywhere and there were not. I really loved our room though. Not having the balcony was fine - it would've made my stress level a little higher anyways because I'm sure my kids would've wanted to be out on it.

YES, PLEASE get PS for Ohana's. I would for Kona's as well. You can walk up but you may have over an hour wait for dinner. Just make them and cancel them if you aren't going to use them. I don't know if Kona was open for lunch or not. We got in for breakfast one of the days we were there but there was only one time available the whole morning.

Yes, we used the MYW for Crystal Palace and the Princess Storybook lunch. We probably should have paid out of pocked for the CP breakfast because it was only $65. My whole family's favorite place to eat was lunch at CRT!!!! It ended up being $130 so the MYW really came in handy there. THe Major Domo meat pie was to die for as were the spring crab rolls and creme brulee. And we were lucky and got to see Cinderella. The castle is amazing inside. The waiting room, the "throne", the stainglass, just all the detail was first rate. Those were the only table service restaurants we ate at. Flame tree BBQ at AK was good and we got a table right by the water which was nice. Pecos BIlls was crowded but good. Sommerfest in Germany had good beer and brats!

Gotta put the kids to bed. Just ask if you have any more questions!!! You will have the time of your life. We did!

I enjoyed reading your report of the Poly. Gave me warm memories and chills......I want to go back to WDW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the Poly and can not wait to return in 3 weeks. It is so relaxing! Once you go Poly you can't go back. :cool1: You are hooked, something about sitting on the balcony sipping Kona coffee looking at the Seven Seas and the Magic Kingdom and planning your upcoming day. It truly is heaven. It is so hard to explain the feeling of pure relaxation you need to experience it.

Thanks for the great report. This makes us even more excited for our trip that is now just over a month away!! :cool1:

It is always great to hear glowing reviews about the Poly. My fondest memories from my childhood are from my two stays at the Poly. I tried to covert the DW on our honeymoon but to her, a hotel is just a place for sleeping, and she wants to try another place for our next trip. I agreed to a split stay because it just isn't Disney without the Poly!

Did you see anything going on in the GCH as far as construction? Are they finished with the new shops or are the brown walls still up?

One of the shops in the GCH is closed for renovations. Don't know what we were missing since it was our first trip to the Poly, but whatever it was, we didn't miss it. Otherwise, the GCH was fine.

Regarding Ohana's and Kona, definitely plan on PS for Ohana's. I tried to get PS for supper one day around lunchtime (this past Saturday) and couldn't get in. For Kona, we had much better luck. Walked in one day for lunch and another day for breakfast. Both times we had no PS and no wait, but we were early for each meal so that probably helped. They were on a wait by the time we left both meals.

We had a garden view and honestly, I would have loved a lagoon view. I tried to upgrade upon checkin, but they were booked up. I don't know whether we will spend the extra money next time or not. Probably not, since we were able to watch everything from the concierge room, but it sure would be nice.

I want to go back!!

We are also Poly concierge lovers. IMO- From the many negative posts I have read about the Poly concierge one of the following comments is "usually" included:

1. "For what I paid for the Poly Concierge I should have gotten ......."

2. "The CM did not even say hello or offer me a ......."

You get what you pay for, there is not a better place I can imagine that a family could stay and relax one minute in the lounge with Chef Dick then just get on the monorail to enjoy the parks.

We would rather not go to WDW if we could not stay at the Polynesian Concierge, it makes our trip complete. And we will be there in 15 days!!!!

Thanks for the great information. I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions. ::yes:: I am very excited about our trip!

Great trip, great report. Glad to hear someone has based their report on experience, as recently some have been giving negative opinions on resorts without having ever stayed there. Poly is my favorite as well, and stay there every trip, welcome to the club.
