Just back from the Dolphin!--did you ever hear this rumor?

We just got back from 6 nights at the Dolphin. We had an end room with a king bed that had been renovated. I love those beds. My DH stripped the sheets on the last day to get the brand and model number; he wants to go bed shopping this weekend.

OK here's the rumor.... My DH was at a conference at the Gaylord Palms the first couple of nights and when he told a co-worker that he was moving to the Dolphin for the rest of his stay this is what he was told. That originally the Swan was suppossed to be the Dolphin and vice versa. That is why there is a water theme decoratng the Swan and leaves on the Dolphin. Apparently a mix-up occurred and they put the wrong statues on the wrong building. I just thought it was funny; not sure if it is true or not.

We had a great stay. The hotel was packed; lots of conferences. Didn't eat at Blue Zoo but the menu looked fabulous. Next time we go with my parents DH and I are going and leaving DS with them. We were really disappointed that we didn't get a chance to eat at Fresh. Its only open for breakfast and lunch. DH and I are not big breakfast eaters and by the time we got back from the parks in the morning our DS was ready to nap. I will definitely try it the next time, maybe they will start serving dinner.

Our service was outstanding. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable. Housekeeping and the staff at Tubbies were wonderful. The front desk went above and beyond when we thought we would need to change rooms. With and completely booked hotel they found us a room by the next day. We ended up not changing but we really appreciated their effort.

I highly recommend We Go Shop; they did a great job and allowed us to forgo our rental car. We actually did two separate orders and both involved complicated food choices and they got everything perfect.

Also A Baby's Best Friend was excellent as usual. Don't worry about putting the crib together it was easy. Another great tip is to purchase a crib tent to use on the crib. We had to get one a couple weeks before we left because DS started climbing out of his crib and we needed to keep him in the crib another month or so. But it ended up being really good to keep light from television away from him. We would put a blanket over one side.

Yes, I heard that rumor from our captain on the Illuminations Cruise that we took in November. He said they did make the mistake with putting the dolphin fish on the wrong building but it was too late because of the weight of the fish. Interesting.

I've heard the same rumor. Makes sense when you look at the buildings.
The Swan has a water theme and the Dolphin has an above ground theme (grass painted on the buidings).
Looks like a mistake to me!

Glad you had a great trip, hadn't heard the rumor but anything is possable.

Glad you enjoyed your stay at the Dolphin! We love it there.

Could you please tell me about We Go Shop? First I've read about it.

The statues can and have been moved by a large heliocopter.

The only time it's happened was a few years ago when Orlando was hit by a hurricane.

SO, I think if they were on the wrong building they could just move them to the right one.:teeth:

I've read about the statue mix-up before, but don't know if it's true or not.

Could be that Michael Graves (the designer/architect) just wanted it that way, he's kind of quirky like that!

We Go Shop is a food delivery service. They will do the food shopping for you and deliver it to your hotel. They are great. The only reason we used to rent a car (we never minded waiting a few minutes for the shuttle buses) was so that we could run out to the store when we needed to due to the fact that my son has severe food allergies. I think the deliver charge was $12.50-completely worth it.

Blondie- that thought about Graves had crossed my mind also. I just thought it was a good story

I feel the same as Blondie!

This has to be up there with the dark squares on the dolphin and the monorail rumour!

Glad you had a great time!
Those two resorts are FABULOUS!
Best beds in WDW! "Heavenly" is right on the mark!

If they're weren't already filled for Spring Break...we'd be there!

Oh, well, gives me reasons to check out the other resorts!;)

My DH worked for CSR Rinker, the company who supplied building materials, including concrete for Disney. He was there when both the Swan & Dolphin were built. There was not a mix up with the statues. DH said Eisner worked very closely with the architect. He fancies himself to be an architect or interior designer type of person and had alot to do with the color schemes. The Swan was always supposed to be the Swan and the Dolphin was always supposed to be the Dolphin and there was no mix up in statues. If there had been a mix up such as this, heads would have rolled, including my DH's because he was the operations manager for the plant.

Could you tell my the model numbers and brand from the new beds at the Dophin?
I need a goooooooood nights sleep and my old bed has had it. Thank you.

Absolutely 100% TRUE! There was indeed NO mix-up on these designs. It sure makes for great URBAN LEGENDS!! The monorail (going through the center) was indeed a probability down the road. The cost (at more than a million a foot), was the deciding factor. When Starwood aquired management of these properties (Sheraton & Westins), this feature was once again brought into focus. But...until the REST of the WORLD (in Disney) gets on the RAIL, the Swan/Dolphin will be waiting. ::yes:: I can only imagine the popularity of these two resorts would SOAR/SKYROCKET if they too became monorail resorts! :hyper: It's always FUN to envision the possibility.

Please call the resorts directly and they will send/fax you all the ordering information. These are made exclusively for the resorts by SERTA, and are available for SALE (even all the bedding, which I've acquired. But I have a delicious Stearns and Foster mattress, which is MORE than heavenly!). The prices are reasonable...and include delivery, etc. Enjoy!!

One more URBAN LEGEND about the monorail. If you look at Michael Graves' architecture, you see these dark squares in a lot of his work. Where would the station be? On the 4th floor? I think not. Never intended to be a monorail hotel.

Never intended to be a monorail hotel.

Our research into this URBAN LEGEND also ended with the results that it was a design feature of the hotel and it was never intended to be.....You can't just pop a monorail in the middle of a hotel....there wouldn't be any rooms left....the steel structure would be totally different and where would the people get on and off....????
