I posted about the CSR in Pt 1.
on to the Polynesian. We LOVED it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We stayed in a garden view concierge. We did try to upgrade to lagoon view at checkin but they were sold out.
But since there were no fireworks during our 4 night stay there it did not matter in the end and I would stay garden view again just to stay in the Hawaii building again. My DH said if the Polynesian was a DVC we would buy it that day.
My DH is a tiki/hawaiian shirt collector so this was utter heavan for him to stay there. We had always debated the stay because of board reviews and the price. Well this was our honeymoon and we went for it. $331 per night with tax.
but it was worth it.
Here is why: no the amenities were not that impressive, no triple sheeting, and nothing really over the top fancy in the room. But the rooms are not what your paying for.....its the overall ambience of the resort. I really felt like we were in Hawaii. I could smell plumeria everywhere. It was heavan. I had always thought that the brown bldgs were ugly and the colors groovy, as many posters have said, but...now that I have stayed there I get it. You feel esconced (sp?) in the Hawaiian feeling and if the bldgs were painted bright/white colors it just wouldn't blend with all the landscaping and the Polynesian look. I get it.
I was one of those BC/YC/GF types.....but the Polynesian won my heart.
I loved the torch lit paths, the sandy beach, the pools, the flowers, the baby ducks in the stream, the smells, the nightly parade on the lake. Just all of it.
The room was very clean and so was the bathroom. Our mousekeeping was done by 1 everyday and we had nightly turn down which was great for us since we used all the towels after our daily pool hopping. I did smell the "musty florida smell" in the Hawaii bldg hallways but did not smell it anywhere else. Our room smelled fresh and clean. So did the main lobby and everywhere else we went. So the smell issue was not relevant. Our room was great. We were in 1521 which is at the far end by the Tokelau bldg facing the quiet pool. We were on the first floor which was perfect. We loved our view too.....pretty flowers and plants. We tipped nicely everyday but did not get any animals or fun towel things.
The concierge lounge: this was really nice. We really took advantage of the bottled water (at least 4 per day for the parks) and we ate breakfast every morning. The evening snacks are just snacks, I would not make a meal out of it but it was perfect for a pre dinner appetizer. We also ate desserts every night.
The concierge desk CM's were nothing special. They were really lacking in customer service training. they were new and had been transferred from other resorts. One guy used to do luggage at the CSR and one lady was a boat driver???
the luggage dude was really unhelpful. When I asked if I could get my Luau tickets he told me to go stand in line at that night and get them.
So I asked the other lady and she printed them right there for me. He was just plain lazy. We did not experience any of the magical CM"s that Tikiman has mentioned but thats ok. We still loved it.
We would stay concierge again in a minute. I don't think we made up the difference in price over a reg room but we really liked how convienent the Hawaii bldg was to everything and we liked the ease of getting breakfast and snacks. We will be back.
Next year we already decided that its a Boardwalk resort and the Polynesian. We just could not beat the monorail transportation. We did not ride a bus for the 4 days we were at the Poly. Gotta love that.
Sorry so long. We wished we had spent our whole honeymoon at the Polynesian. The concierge did send us a nice champagne/chocolate tray for our honeymoon. We also got the nice chocolate postcard upon checkout.
Tikiman......you have competition for being their biggest fan.
