Just back from the BC

Here is what might seem like a silly question. We will be at the YC for 4 nights starting next Thursday. We plan on using the pool at midday times. If there are no chairs, are there any spots where you can stash towel/ID/flipflops? Can you just put them on the concrete by a rock or something, as long as they aren't in the walkways? We aren't just going to turn around and go to the room because we can't find a chair, but we have to take our IDs at least to get into SAB.
(yes I know about the quiet pools, but this is our first YC/BC stay and I booked it for SAB).

Hi robin - that is not a silly question. I actually thought about the same thing. I honestly didn't see any place where you could put your stash but I wonder if they have lockers or something nearby? My DH keeps his ID in his swimming trunks pocket and never has a problem with it not working afterwards.

So glad to hear you had a great time! ...we are headed there for the first time is 18 days!:woohoo: Can't wait! I have a ton of questions, but most seem to escape me...eagarly waiting for your TR.

Oh! Did you go to BC Marketplace? How were the lines in the am? Thinking about grabbing a hot breakfast sandwich on the way out in the am, but need to get my timing right.

Do you recall the BCM hours? Do remember how late they were open? Thinking late night gelato snacks sound pretty tasty.

Does the Marketplace have the Entemann's (sp?) donut boxes for a snack credit?

What's the lazy river like? (I've never been to the water parks either, so please don't use that to compare.:goodvibes) How big are the inner tubes that they rent?

TIA!:flower3:

I'm so jealous - we had such a hard time leaving. We went to the Marketplace one morning to grab breakfast and once to grab a snack and both times the lines were quite short. Maybe 2-3 people ahead of us. Not sure about the hours. I did see those Entenmann's donuts, yes! (those are so good!) I'm not sure about using snack credits for those because we don't do the dining plan. However, we had cereal and milk and they asked us if we were on the dining plan and of course we said no, but I asked if we were on the dining plan what would the cereal and milk be considered. The answer was "snack credits." Maybe the donuts are the same thing, but I'm not sure.

Lazy river is very nice - you can rent a tube or noodle or bring your own. At least I saw people with their own. the tubes are sort of a clear color and they are quite big. Stormalong Bay was absolutely fantastic...we had a great time 2 mornings just hanging out and playing in the water like two little kids. The slide is really fun!

Hope this helps - I've posted Day 1 of our trip on the trip reports board. Got 6 more days to go.

....so you weren't so pleased with the YC Steakhouse. Pls tell us why!!! We have a ressie there (not on Food Plan!) and are use to getting GOOD steak (we live in NY, BTW and have access to some real good steakhouses!). Will we be disappointed. How's the $ ????:)

We were totally UNPLEASED actually. And, this use to be a favorite of ours. We ordered filets, chateubriand for 2 actually, and we ordered it medium rare. The inside was indeed med. rare but the outside was so charred and burnt up. You couldn't taste the delicious flavor from the oak fired grill, AT ALL!! So, we sent it back and it came back better, but not great. The mashed potatoes didn't taste fresh...it was as if they were last night's. Although I'm sure that's not the case but it certainly seemed that way. And the mushrooms were so salty our lips turned inside out. The steak wasn't AWFUL but I've had better steaks at mediocre steakhouses. This should not be the case with Yachtsman Steakhouse. Last year we went and I had the filet, same thing...burned up on the outside. DH had a fish dish last year. Anyway, we had so many great meals there in the past we wanted to believe that last year was a fluke and give it one more try. NEVER AGAIN. The only posiives were the dessert (warm chocolate cake with oozing chocolate lava on the inside), the heirloom tomato salad, and the service was very very good. This was our most expensive meal and out of the nicer places we ate, our least favorite.

I had a steak at Brown Derby that totally and completely put this one to shame.

Hi Pam!

We were at the Beach Club Villas on 7/25 - 7/27. Sorry we missed you.

You were right about Storm-A-Long Bay. Getting a chair after 11:00 was difficult. You had to wait in an area and hope someone got up to leave. My DD7 loved the slide. Towles were laying on chairs everywhere. I think guests were just laying towels on chairs to give themselves a little extra room.

Thanks for your report.

Pam, Really appreciate the time you are giving all of us going there soon! Just curious, what did your tab come out to and for how many people in your party. We chose NOT to do the DINING Plan either, just works to our benefit. We book our hotel, seperately, w/o dining, etc. We find this works out A LOT CHEAPER for us!!! :cool1: Thanks, again Pam!
Thinking maybe we should cancel our ressie over there :confused3

Hey there - you guys leave the Beach Club in one piece for me so I can go back! I said to my husband last night, "I guess we'll go back maybe next April or May." He said, "we can go sooner than that can't we?" The bill with tip was $117.98. It was just me and DH, we don't have any kids. We had 1 Heirloom salad which we split, the chateaubriand for two, one dessert to split and we both drank tap water with lemon. (fancy, aren't we?). OOPS - I just remembered...they gave us the dessert for free so that figure included 1 salad, the steak for two and tap water.

We did the dining plan once and it didn't work out for us. too much food, and too many counter service meals.

Please don't cancel your ressie just because of my report. Some folks LOVE this place and we certainly used to love it. We ran into a lady at the pool, a fellow DISer by the way, and she liked it a lot. She ordered prime rib though. They have the grill too hot - you can see the fire just flaming up to the ceiling. Maybe because we got filets that is why it happened. They are thick. Still though - for that price we should have been completely satisfied and pleased with the meal. I thought the mashed potatoes were awful, but the same DIS lady told me her kids loved them.

all I can say is I won't ever go back again, but that's just little ol' me. Our food at home is so good, perhaps I'm somewhat hard to please...I dunno. My husband is a really good cook. He makes much better steaks than Yachtsman.

Anyway - have fun and enjoy your trip.
