DW and i just got back yesterday from our thanksgiving week at BWV - our first trip to our home resort. overall we were wow'd! here's a synopsis of our trip....
we checked in on wed 11/22 around 1130a or so. the front desk told us that our room was currently being cleaned and would probably be ready soon, so we decided to hang out at the resort until we could move in. unfortunately, we checked back about 3 times over the next hour and a half or so and it never became available, so we headed off to epcot. it's a good thing, too, b/c the room ultimately wasn't ready until about 330p.
we had a preferred view studio reservation and had requested a non-smoking, upper floor room overlooking the quiet pool. lucky for us, we got all 3 (room 4132).....i know, it's a long walk all the way down there! but we'd prefer the quietness of the end rooms over the noisiness around luna park. plus, we were only 3 doors away from the stairs that dropped us directly down to the walkway to MGM, which was GREAT....
the room was mostly clean. there was some trash left in the trash can under the kitchenette. but other than that, things were in order. the rooms at BWV are showing the wear that 10 years will cause (worn carpets, fading paint, the occassional crack along a wall or ceiling crease), but nothing that we really cared about. we had a nice, cozy, clean studio with a great balcony view of the swan & dolphin....we were happy!
the lobby, obviously, was decked out for the holidays. the gingerbread house display - along with it's model train and 10 hidden mickeys - was phenomenal. front desk and concierge service was good all week. our T&T service came on the expected day (sat) - and they left us with BOAT LOADS of clean towels and wash cloths.
being that this was our first stay at BWV, we weren't sure whether to take the Friendship boats to the parks, or just walk. so we tried both. as if you didn't already know this, the resort's location is absolutely AWESOME! the walk from our room to epcot was about 9 minutes and to MGM was about 11 minutes. what better way to start a day than a brisk, scenic walk to a disney theme park?! the boat transportation was pretty good, too. a leisurely break from the endless walking that we tend to do at WDW. going back and forth from epcot was especially convenient - only 4 or 5 minutes, and the boat always seemed to be docked and ready to go when we wanted to head over. taking the boat to MGM, however, meant spending a little more time on the water, since after leaving the BW we first headed to the Y&B clubs, then to swan & dolphin, THEN to MGM. about a 20-25 minute trip. so we did that once, and walked the rest of the week.
and - as kind of an afterthought - the holiday decor at BWV, as well as throughout the theme parks, was superb as usual. thanks alot, disney....b/c of you, my wife is now in the 'christmas spirit' and i have to go to the tree farm to cut down my christmas tree this weekend in the snow! a small price to pay, i suppose, for a great holiday vacation!
