We're back! Just came throgh the door and of course my first order of business is a full report to you guys!
SSR is georgus! Just georgus! Loved everything about it!
So we drove in the night before, unexpectedly. We had breakfast and arrived over at SSR about 9 or so. The gate guard said people had been arriving since 6:45am! Well our room wasn't ready, which we expected, so we went over to the pool to wait for the room number, which they said we could have after 11am. At 11:30 they weren't ready for us and offered to move us to a room that was ready. I said that we were happy to wait for the right room (non-smoking a must, top floor desired). Well they said to give them 1/2 an hour. An hour later we stopped back by on the way to lunch and still nothing. No problem. we were early after all. After lunch they had a room for us. The room was georgus, of course and had a view (side of the building) of Pleasure Island. We hung out, went to the grocery store for milk and did a load of wash. Then off to Chef Mickey's and DD.
We came back to the only glitch of the whole stay. We put the kids to bed (the little one was already out cold) and our room began to fill up with cigerette smoke! It turns out that when they said our room was non-smoking, they meant it wasn't smoking yet, and I didnt notice the lack of nonsmoking sign on the door. However, our room was adjoined to a room inhabited by what seemed to be a whole gang of chain smokers! Bill, the front desk guy said we were in a "smoking optional" room. To which we said it was more like smoking mandatory. Now you can imagine that at 10pm the room availability was non-existant. Carl the desk manager went round and round with us until he found us a room that was in fact smoking, but hadnt been smoked in and the adjoining room wasnt occupied, so he would make sure that non-smokers were assigned to the room, too. He was so grudgingly accomodating though that I was nashing my teeth and plotting demands. However, his boss, Lynn was very apologetic the next morning and willing to do whatever she could for us. In the end, we stayed in the second room which was on the second floor, wheelchair accessable (which meant no towle racks in the bathroom or full length mirror like we had in the first room) and had a view of some water and a parking lot on the far side of it.
So the pool. THE POOL! fantastic! Kids loved the slides and Donald. Started our trip there and had dinner and a late swim there last night. While you can swim at it untill late, the slides are closed when the lifeguards leave. Its been painted to look like a natural pond, so it took some getting used to because my first thought was that it wasn't clean. But upon seeing my white legs glow blue underwater, I can safely report that it is properly clorinated pool water. I also got a look at the quiet pool, while I did laundry (thumbs up on the fast machines btw).
Food was good. But the mugs havent come in yet
The merchandise is awesome! There's some really cool generic DVC stuff and some great SSR and dvc/ssr stuff as well. Sleeveless denim shorts, polos, sweat jackets, hates, spa stuff like towels and slippers, cool fitted t's for ladies, stuff for the home, and two trading pins with the opening on them: a reddish one LE 1500 and a member only blue one LE 3000.
There will be rooms that face the streets and parking lots out the sides of the buildings. Some of the bus drivers are getting lost. The bus stop for Congress park sits between the two middle buildings of the 4 (when complete). There's also two stops near the pool. The walk from Congress Park to the lobby area isnt very far, but its not right there either. Those who want to be right there will be happier once the second phase opens up.
The only thing we really felt was missing was a resort sign the the kids could stand next to for pictures. But dont worry too much there are plenty of photo ops!
What else? Have I forgotten anything?
