Just back from SSR and met with a Guide

We did a small add-on this past week and went over to sign the paperwork while we were at WDW. Our Guide was on the 2-week repo Cruise, so we had someone else help us get the paperwork done.

I asked specifically about the Contemporary rumor. He said it had seriously been considered for some time, but as of their meeting (sales?) that past week they thought it was a dead issue. He said that Bonnet Creek would be next and that there was serious talk about the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

He also said that DVC and the Cruise Lines were the only divisions to make money last year so they were the only ones to receive money for capital expenditures.

I loved the new sales office, this was the first time we had been past the reception area and into the back offices. They really gave those guys a nice set-up.

We stayed at SSR and this was our third stay there over this past year. We received balloons and autographed pictures 3 days in a row for our anniversary and a birthday celebration. Our room was ready at 9:30 A.M., and we had a 4th floor Downtown Disney view. Room was in great shape, service was more than we expected and we had no complaints at all.

Any questions ask away, but it sounds like everyone is cancelling all their SSR ressies and that I will be having the place to myself.

wait a sec... I thought Bonnett Creek was Fairfield... not Disney??? are they going to snatch that up?

I'm assuming "Bonnet Creek" is a reference to the resort most frequently referred to as "Eagle Pines." AFAIK, the Eagle Pines course is one of several courses housed at what was formerly known as the Bonnet Creek Golf Club.

You can read more about the "Eagle Pines" resort here:

http://www.wdwmagic.com/dvceaglepines.htm

The resort was originally announced in September / October '01 and then put on hold due to a combination of 9/11 and the urgency to begin converting the Disney Institute to Saratoga Springs. It has been a source of much speculation as to whether plans will ever proceed as originally outlined.

No, he did say Bonnett and I do know that Bonnett Creek Resort is Fairfield, but isn't the Eagle Pines Golf Course on Bonnett Creek Drive? I didn't ask any more questions about his statement because I thought that I remembered Bonnett Creek Drive being where Eagle Pines is. I cannot imagine Disney ever buying anything that was already built.

thanks for passing on what the sales guide had to say.

Wondering why you posted that is "sounds like everyone is cancelling all their SSR ressies?" DId the sales guide say that?

dcibrando -Prior to DVC's decision to build SSR, the next resort was going to be Eagle Pines. Some were calling that Bonnet Creek but it isn't the Fairfield Resort - Disney doens't own that land. SOme site prep work had already been done before the SSR decision was made.

Best wishes -

Where is Bonnet Creek? Is it near a golf course or something like that?

He said that Bonnet Creek would be next and that there was serious talk about the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Where at Animal Kingdom Lodge? Did he say if they were going to build new or convert existing rooms?

Only because of the SSR Good News thread in which some folks stated that they had changed their ressies from SSR to somewhere else based on negative comments about SSR from other people.

One more thing, I noticed that the site of the last SSR section is being cleared, the old buildings are gone and you can now see thru the woods to the Treehouse Villas.

I didn't ask where, I just assumed new rooms not taking over any existing.

AKL would be awesome!!! Could this be a reality?

What don't you like about SSR? Do you own there? I am heading there for 10 nights in October and it will be our first stay at SSR. We stayed at VWL last September and loved it, but my wife wants to try something else.

Jim - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (ack the dreaded SSR like/dislike question!!!)

Actually, I am always interested in why someone doesn't like. USUALLY it tends to be that they prefer hotel type resorts to home away from home style (speaking in terms of physical layout only).

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: Will be very happy to participate in VAKL speculation threads.

Will start saving my money this very minute. Absolutely HAVE to own there for the 11 month window.......

As much as I like the idea of DVC Contemporary or AKL, a real golf destination would be attractive. I understand the SSR OKW golf connection but that is not a destination golf course (to borrow a phrase). The Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge area would be ideal for this type of resort. Could be interesting.

Funny how a week ago a similar post from someone in the know said the ink was drying on an announcement re: Contemporary DVC. I think it will be a while before they do anything (on-site anyway).

When we bought, my husband was commenting that he will miss being right on the monorail. Our Guide said "a couple of years from now, they are planning to have something on the monorail, if you want to wait". He never said specifically CR, and he did said a couple of years, which is pretty vague. I think that it would be great, but basically wishful thinking.
