Just back from Special Olympics!

Well it was a LONG, HOT weekend at the venue, but my Special Olympic Equestrian team just returned from 3 days of non-stop excitement and emotion at the State Championship. It is a true blessing to work with these guys. Everyone really stepped up to the plate despite the soaring temps (here in NC it was in the mid 90's and HUMID all weekend), super long days (started at 7am dn got back to the hotel around 9pm each night), and the stress of competition. All of our athletes medaled (of the 9 we brought, each got a a gold in at least one of their 3 events). I am so proud I could just bust wide open! Not only were they all stellar, but now each athlete who got a gold is eligible to chosen for the INTERNATIONALGAMES in China next year!!!! I can't wait to see if any of our riders are selected. Who knows, maybe I'll be asked to coach the international team!

So Congrats to any of our DIS special Olympians who competed this weekend, and thanks to all of you who volunteer your time and effort to help this wonderful organization!

I have a cousin who has participated in s.o. many times. She loves it. She has always done track and field events. Unfortunately she is getting old and her body can't take it as much. My mom and I have worked as volunteers for s.o., that is one of the most rewarding things a person can do. If anyone has the opportunity to volunteer I highly recommend it. You will get so much for from it than you give.
