Just back from riding Expedition Everest!

How did you all know about the "soft" openings for that day?? We and some other people on another post are going the beginning of Feb. and we aren't sure how to find out when it is open for "previews"- Do we just get lucky OR is there a pattern?? Is it on EMH for AK??

We can hardly wait to try it, UKDEB!

Did you notice how children were reacting to it? Disney rates it for 5 year olds but we're not convinced. What do you think for a starting age?

BTW...if you're still in Orlando on Sunday pick up a Sentinel. :thumbsup2
There were certainly plenty of younger children around and I didn't see any who seemed upset. It's basically an old-fashioned coaster ride with lots of BTMR style swoops (but bigger and faster), one big drop followed by a big upwards sweep, and a sensational (and surprisingly long and fast) backwards section which includes a sweep and a drop. I 'lost' my stomach twice - once during the big drop and once slightly at the end of the backwards section. For me it was just about right - enough to get my heart pumping, but not so much that I didn't want to get back on. I'm always encouraged when I see lap bars rather than shoulder harnesses!

We arrived back in dreary old England this morning. We were hoping you might pick up a copy of Sunday's Sentinel for us! We'll have to check it out online.

Sounds awesome, can't wait!

Did you get your free pin and lanyard?
Yes. I prefer the free one to the DVC and Passholder exclusives. It says "I Got A Sneak Peak. Expedition Everest. Disney's Animal Kingdom."

YIPPEE sounds great! What did you buy?!! And do you think my 8 year old will be ok on it? She has done RNR and is ok with it but doesn't love it.- loves SM and BTMR. Thanks.
I bought a 30" Yeti :teeth:, a couple of pens, a couple of pads and a postcard. I also spent almost $50 on the limited edition pins  . I also answer to "gullible"!

See my previous post about the ride itself. I think she'll be OK if she's OK on RnR and SM. It's definitely way more intense than BTMR.

Cool! Sounds like fun!

One question: I've read that you need to get a voucher for the lanyard/pin. Where do you do this?

Thanks so much -- we'll be there Saturday!
They had a FASTPASS machine set up. They input your park entry pass to the machine and it printed a voucher. AP holders just needed to present the pass; DVC members needed to show their membership cards and then hand over their park entry pass for input to the machine.

Nice Ride you had....I just got an email stating we get a sneak peak while we are there since we are staying at a resort...does anyone know what this means??

Do we get to ride too?? We are going 2/4-2/11...I printed off the email and am going to take it with us- I have no idea what it means.

Where did you hear that the limited edition pins sold out?? I bought mine at 1:30ish. Someone told me she heard they sold out early, but I still got one. :)
When we arrived, the line for the limited edition pins was longer than the line for the ride (at around 30 minutes compared with 20 for the standby line). We weren't going to bother, but by 11.30 (ish) it was down to around 10 minutes. We got our vouchers, but the girl ahead of us in line hadn't worked out that you needed a voucher. Her husband/boyfriend came along when we'd been in line a couple of minutes and asked if she'd got her voucher. He said that the AP vouchers were gone. He went off to check and came back to say that, if she didn't have the voucher, she wouldn't be able to buy the pin and they were definitely all gone. Sounds as though he may have been given duff information :confused3 .

A CM told me that they were limited to 1500 and 2000 respectively. Not sure whether that's in total, or per preview day.

So how many "G'S" does this ride have?? Compared to-let's say-Big THunder MT. That's about my tolerable limit, so I wonder if Everest will be just too much???????
Hi UncleR :wave2: . If BTMR really is your tolerable limit, I think you'll find EE a tad intense.

I can't wait to ride it! I saw someone has some pics posted and it looks like the tracks were torn apart- very cool. I want to buy a Yeti!!! So you are right I'm sure I could drop $70 with no problem.

You have seen the video, haven't you?

I can forward the email to you if you want- see more recent threads about who has gotten the email and who hasn't- it is on page one of this forum. No one can quite figure out what the email means.

You do NOT have to get an email. Being a resort guess, from what I am being told my CRO, actually has nothing to do with the Early february previwes. Basically ANYONE visitng the AK during the first part of February has a chance at riding EE. They are not saying which dates EE will be open, so basically it's a roll of the dice if the previews will be going on the day you are there. This info is all courtesy of "Wolfgang" at CRO. I spoke with yesterday and asked about this specifically. He says he thinks the emails were sent to people with ressies to help spread the word.

1) We rode it five times.
2) Our thoughts (on a scale of 10, with 10 as best)
. . . as a "family" coaster -- 7
. . . as a "thrill" coaster -- 3
. . . pre-show artifacts -- 8
. . . pre-show story -- 4
. . . head rush of backward flow -- 8
. . . g-force effects of curves -- 6
. . . leg room (no knee-knocking) for us tall adults -- 9
. . . lap bar room (for larger people) -- 8
. . . overall story continuity -- 5
. . . overall ride -- 7

NOTE: This is not a thrill ride, Think of it as a larger version of Big Thunder Mountain without the oration and with a backward section. Still a good coaster, though.

How could you rate the story continuity so low. The story is executed flawlessly.

We also got to ride this many times over the weekend since we are AP holders and while it isn't a big thrill coaster we loved it. I am glad that I got the special edition pin on Thursday since it sold out. I couldn't belive we stood in line longer for the pin than to ride.
