Just had a great vacation at Port Orleans Riverside (11/15 through 11/22/03). Asked upon checkin (around 9:00 a.m.) for Mansions and a King Bed but was told upon checkin that would be $15.00 extra per night. I asked that since I was here on FTP where you pay for 4 and get 3 free if I would only need to pay $15.00 more per night for 4 nights but was told that I would have to pay $15 per night for all 7 nights of stay. Decided to save my money and take whatever given. Also, asked if room was ready upon checkin (I was told by CM that I would be placed in Magnolia Terrace) and was told that I would have to call later on in the day (given room key as it was my ultimate park hopper as well). I took a brief stroll over to the Mag. Terr. area and noticed that some rooms were available (many windows were open with rooms that no one was in). I decided not to wait in line (several people were also waiting to check in) and ask as I wanted to get over to AK .
At about 2:00 when waiting for Lion King to begin, I called to see if room was ready. CM informed me that the room I was assigned was still not ready but she would find another room in Magnolia Terrace that was ready and assigned me to Room 8759, 2nd floor. Room was in good shape. There were no stains on the carpet or bedspreads. The furniture is definately a bit worn and the the room does have areas that need to be painted mainly the area around the sinks and closet in the bathroom but this is certainly to be expected as the hotel is coming up for refurbishment.
Mousekeeping started off good but sort of went downhill. The room was a bit dusty in the usual areas (top of armoire, top of mirrors in bathroom, shelf/coat rack, fan). I left $3.00 per day to the Mousekeeper who did leave plenty of amentities but small oddities began before the end of the week and added up in the end. What do I mean. One day I came back to find that my trash had not been emptied. Okay fine, I'll empty it. Next day came in to find that the ice bucket wasn't emptied (she did this the first couple of days) and no new bag was left. Next day, same thing with ice bucket and left dirty towels in the exact location where I left them. Last day, she only came in and made the bed, no amentities, trash still there and water left in ice bucket. Needless to say, the last day no tip was left.
Last comment, the hotel was pretty quiet until this past weekend when the holiday crowd began to come in. Up until this point I would only occasionally hear a toilet flush or a child run past the window. However when the hotel became more crowded this past Friday and Sat. I could hear many toilets flushing (actually woke me up Sat. morning before my Mickey call came in), then children running past door and finally the yard crew beginning there grass and bush cutting right where my room was (all of this at 8:15 a.m. making it harder to sleep in late). I would suggest that should you stay here, get a room on the 3rd floor and hopefully there will be less noise.
I used the pool daily as well as the hot tub. I ate at Boatwrights and the food court and found both to have good food. I did laundry twice and even though there is a sign saying drying machine is for 30 minutes, my clothes came out dry and the dryer kept going for longer than 50 minutes. The grounds are truly beautiful. I also rented a bike and rode around the property one morning which saved my feet a lot of extra walking due to the size of the grounds.
As for the bus systems well to each is own. The buses arrive regularly at the main depot, however, the buses are a bit slower at the other depot's (30/40 minutes sometimes for MGM and MK buses).
Let me know if you have any questions.
