Just had a great vacation at Port Orleans Riverside (11/15 through 11/22/03). Asked upon checkin (around 9:00 a.m.) for Mansions and a King Bed but was told upon checkin that would be $15.00 extra per night. I asked that since I was here on FTP where you pay for 4 and get 3 free if I would only need to pay $15.00 more per night for 4 nights but was told that I would have to pay $15 per night for all 7 nights of stay. Decided to save my money and take whatever given. Also, asked if room was ready upon checkin (I was told by CM that I would be placed in Magnolia Terrace) and was told that I would have to call later on in the day (given room key as it was my ultimate park hopper as well). I took a brief stroll over to the Mag. Terr. area and noticed that some rooms were available (many windows were open with rooms that no one was in). I decided not to wait in line (several people were also waiting to check in) and ask as I wanted to get over to AK .

At about 2:00 when waiting for Lion King to begin, I called to see if room was ready. CM informed me that the room I was assigned was still not ready but she would find another room in Magnolia Terrace that was ready and assigned me to Room 8759, 2nd floor. Room was in good shape. There were no stains on the carpet or bedspreads. The furniture is definately a bit worn and the the room does have areas that need to be painted mainly the area around the sinks and closet in the bathroom but this is certainly to be expected as the hotel is coming up for refurbishment.

Mousekeeping started off good but sort of went downhill. The room was a bit dusty in the usual areas (top of armoire, top of mirrors in bathroom, shelf/coat rack, fan). I left $3.00 per day to the Mousekeeper who did leave plenty of amentities but small oddities began before the end of the week and added up in the end. What do I mean. One day I came back to find that my trash had not been emptied. Okay fine, I'll empty it. Next day came in to find that the ice bucket wasn't emptied (she did this the first couple of days) and no new bag was left. Next day, same thing with ice bucket and left dirty towels in the exact location where I left them. Last day, she only came in and made the bed, no amentities, trash still there and water left in ice bucket. Needless to say, the last day no tip was left.

Last comment, the hotel was pretty quiet until this past weekend when the holiday crowd began to come in. Up until this point I would only occasionally hear a toilet flush or a child run past the window. However when the hotel became more crowded this past Friday and Sat. I could hear many toilets flushing (actually woke me up Sat. morning before my Mickey call came in), then children running past door and finally the yard crew beginning there grass and bush cutting right where my room was (all of this at 8:15 a.m. making it harder to sleep in late). I would suggest that should you stay here, get a room on the 3rd floor and hopefully there will be less noise.

I used the pool daily as well as the hot tub. I ate at Boatwrights and the food court and found both to have good food. I did laundry twice and even though there is a sign saying drying machine is for 30 minutes, my clothes came out dry and the dryer kept going for longer than 50 minutes. The grounds are truly beautiful. I also rented a bike and rode around the property one morning which saved my feet a lot of extra walking due to the size of the grounds.

As for the bus systems well to each is own. The buses arrive regularly at the main depot, however, the buses are a bit slower at the other depot's (30/40 minutes sometimes for MGM and MK buses).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Glad you had a good time. A couple of questions because we are trying to decide between POR and CBR.

How was the pool?
Did the condition of the rooms bother you at all?
How was the atmosphere?

Thanks so much for any input.

Hi. We're staying at POR in Feb. I have requested the mansions, but no specific building except for non smoking. From your observations, is there any building in particular that I should request? Also, why was it $15 more? Was it because of the king size bed? I know I'm getting a waterview as that was all they had left when I booked. Does the hot tub have jets? Last year we were at CBR and there were no jets. Weird! TIA

We will be at POR soon for a short stay. We want to get to MK no later than 8:30 am. What time should we leave and what bus depot should we use? We will have our own car so we can drive to any bus depot.

Question about the busses? I decided not to rent a car because even with discounts, etc. I just couldn't get a deal good enough to book for Dec 19th-25th. (maybe the time of year??) Anyway, after reading your post I am a bit worried. We have quite a few ps' for breakfast and we are early risers so our ps' are early. Should I try again for rental or take a taxi for the ones I am really edgy about...CRT, Christmas morning at 8:10?? I had read they ran a lot faster than what you have just mentioned...more like every 15 minutes 30 max. Now I am getting worried. Thanks for any help!!

Sorry that I couldn't respond sooner but I've had to get back to my normal life.

To IloveDMB - the main pool was great and fun to swim in. At night it was heated and I was very grateful as a few nights it got quite cool. The hot tub was also very welcoming and VERY HOT. Most of us sitting in the hot tub sat for about 10 minutes and then had to get out for a break. I thought that my room was in pretty good shape and other than a little bit of dust at the top of the furniture, everything was in good order. As for the atmosphere, I thought it was very relaxing and quiet. Everyone was very cordial and most people greeted me in passing either way. I did enjoy my stay and especially Ole Man Island. BTW, the quiet pools are very nice but the one closests to Magnolia Terrace was rather cool (didn't feel as though it was heated).

To Dawn F316 - Yes the $15 extra per night was quoted if I wanted a king bed room. I declined. What Mansions should you stay in? Well all four mansions are in a pretty good location and close enough to the main building. However, Oak Manor and Parterre Place have their own bridge which leads to the back side of the main building and a slightly longer walk to Ole Man Island. Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace have a bridge inbetween them that leads directly to Ole Man Island with a brief walk to another bridge bringing you to the other side of the main building. I liked Magnolia Terrace and didn't mind walking past the main pool area every night as I usually went back to my room and decided if I wanted to swim now or later depending on the crowd at the pool at that time. Yes, the hot tub has jets and the water is hot. Everyday I returned to feel that the muscles in my legs hurt from all the walking but got in that hot tub and they suddenly felt great.

To Seastar and Catone - sorry I don't know what to tell you other than walk to the main depot first thing in the morning (say around 7:15 or 7:30) and catch the MK bus from the depot in front of the resort. I found that everytime I went to the MK and caught the bus from the South Station behind my room, the buses did not run regularly for the MK or MGM. I frequently watched plenty of buses heading to Epcot and AK from the South Depot but waited the longest (40 min. and 30 min. waits) for the MK. I would use your best Judgment. If you have a car, you can easily drive to MK, park for free as an onsite resort guest and take the monorail to MK. If taking a cab, you may have to call one first thing in the a.m. and then you would also need to take the Monorail in. I say keep a positive outlook, plenty of people make it to their ressie's on time.

Either way, I think that you all will enjoy your stay at this resort.

We have quite a few ps' for breakfast and we are early risers so our ps' are early.

CatOne, last year when we were there, there was a special bus that only picked up passengers for early PS's. We had a 9:00 PS at the AK and we were out at the West bus stop by 7:45. It arrived shortly after and we were delivered to the AK a little after 8:00. We checked in and they went ahead and took us in. We were through with our breakfast by the time our original PS time began.

You might check on the transportation board to see if they are running this special buses again this year.
