Just back from POR-Great Place!

Just got home May 13th from 7 nights at POR. Requested bldg 18 nonsmoking room and got it. The bldg was at a great location and very close to a quiet pool also. The grounds were just gorgeous and much small animal-bird sightings was fun for our son.
This resort was hightly recomended to us by a friend and we are so glad to have stayed at such a nice place. In the past we've been at FQ, ASM, and our fave WL. We love WL because of the quick boat ride to MK, but would stay at POR again in the future.
Had a great dinner at Boatwrights one night, went to Liberty Tree for the character dinner and will go back again to that also. Bomas for dinner was terrific(great to explore AKL).
Just another great trip to Disney for us. I thought the crowds were going to be nuts from May 6-13 and they were like always in May-very managable. We waited 15 minutes for Test Trac and about 25 for Peter Pan which were our longest waits. The last full day was busy at MK but we made it.

I heard some people call POR "deluxe light"..do you agree?

I would certainly agree with the 'deluxe light' comment. Yes, the hallways are outside rather than inside, but I have to tell you, it's quieter that way. We've had a lot more 'hall noise' at the deluxes with those inside hallways than we ever had at POR. Love that pool area, and there is a nice hot tub, which the Polynesian still doesn't have. There is an onsite table service restaurant and a food court!!! Boat transportation to DTD. Yep, we love POR. Can't wait to go back in June for the last two nights of our trip.

Thanks for the review, we have res for Nov/Dec. Did you use the bus transportation between parks? How was the wait and crowds? I keep seeing posts regarding waiting forever, last to be picked up, etc.

My dh and I were there 12 years ago and I remember saying we spent so much time on the buses, we would have had more hours to spend at the parks.

I was going to switch my reservation from POR to Contemporary if a good AP rates come out, but I am afraid to change because POR gets great reviews & the CR is half & half....

I agree with everything you said and don't forget about Bob Jackson in the lounge-great family entertainment. This really is a nice resort. I wish we had more time to explore when we were there.

We were there for Spring Break 2005 at POR and we only had to wait more than about 5 mins one time for a bus. It was Saturday and early EMH for AK and we waited about 30 mins for a bus. Apparently the busses were filling up at POFQ and going straight on to AK. When the bus got there, we weren't even all able to get on. I must say though in our two stays at POR this is the only time we had a bus problem. I kind of think it was a fluke of some sort because that day it came a torrential downpour and the line to go back to POR was enormous, so I think the entire resort was at AK that day. We ended up taking a bus to CBR then to MGM and back to POR because we didn't feel like waiting in that line soaked to the bone. Overall though, I would call the bus service excellent, even with that "fluke". I also decided on that trip that it's not worth it to use early EMH at AK because just about everyone runs back to the Safari so you have to fast pass it anyway. So, rather than reading that as a critique of POR bus service, call it a critique of early EMH at AK.

so glad to read all these positive reviews of POR. we are going to DW in jan. and staying at GF, but i keep telling my DH that i think we should stay at POR for our next trip after that. my cousin, who is a total Deluxe snob (and i say that in a loving way), recommends POR all the time.

Hello again!
We used the South bus stop at the front of the hotel every time and waited no more than 10 minutes. I have read on the boards people complaining about the long waits for the WL also and our few times we stayed there we never waited longer that 15 minutes. I think we must be lucky. A few times the buses only went to the south stop and not the others so I wonder if thats why people wait at POR.
I also agree w/ the "deluxe light" comment, the room was nice and everything was clean. The resort is just beautiful.
