Hi all,

I'm just back from POR and WL. 2 nights at POR 6 nights at WL.

I absolutely loved POR, liked it even better than WL. Didn't think WL was worth the extra $. Believe me, I NEVER thought I would say that. The key to POR is to get in a building close to the main one.

Any questions?

POR- Is a building close to the main building a request or is it extra $? We are planning an Oct trip and I would like to be close because I will be 26 weeks pregnant by then!
Thanks!
Laura

It's a request. I would recommend AB building 14. That seemed to be the closest. We were AB 26 not too far but could've been closer.

Thanks! I thought of another question. How were the busses? Is there several stops at the resort? I assume that they share with POFQ.

Welcome back! and thanks for the revew. My family really loves the POR also. It is such a beautiful resort. My question is how is the new and improved food court? thanks.

Thanks for the ?s.

First, because we didn't go to the parks from POR we didn't use the buses that much. However, everytime we were at a bus stop we saw the buses for POR and POFQ. We spent most of the time at WL and still had to bus just about everywhere. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with the buses at POR. No matter what, unless you're on the monorail, you need to bus. Also, POR is closer to all the other parks except MK. If you intend to spend all your time at MK stay closer, but I honestly didn't think it was worth the xtra money. And I was adament about the WL when booking. I thought it would be the best place to stay. I was wrong. POR had a better food court and more stuff for DD. At night in the bar they had entertainment for the kids. DD loved it and I didn't want to leave POR.

We didn't actually eat at the POR food court, but it is huge! And it has tons of choices. WL food court is about the size of my living room. It didn't even compare.

Save your $ stay at POR!

Thanks for posting! Headed to POR in less than 2 months :cheer2:

Thanks for the trip report! I read a lot that people are disappointed in the "food court" options at the deluxe resorts. For us, we don't use the counter service at the resort much except maybe the day we arrive and "pool" days, so the smaller Roaring Forks serves our needs perfectly. But I agree having stayed at Pop, POFQ, and CBR, for families that plan on using a "food court" extensively during their vacations and not having to plan on eating at such and such a time each day (ADR for table service) the mods and values are much more convenient. My sis is like this, she does not like to plan out each day, and go with the flow of things, so the mods are perfect for her. I plan everyday with ADR's for table service, so it does not bother us. I think many people think just because something costs more and is labeled "deluxe" it is automatically better all around. With Disney, that is not the case and it totally depends on what is important to how your family spends their vacation. For us, the rooms, interior halls, hot tub, ambience, boat to MK & CR, balcony, WCC, EWP, and compactness of WL are some of the reasons we chose to stay at WL this coming August.
Glad you had a great trip!

Welcome back and I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed POR as much as I did last month! It was my first stay there and I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the resort is. :) If it weren't for my medical issues (I have two different ailments that often interfere with walking), I'd love to stay at POR again. Also, I found that the busses were great during my stay. Never had to wait long at all for a bus to come along. We were in AB building #18 which was a short walk to everything. I loved it :)

If anyone is interested, I have a web page with all of my pictures and some comments about POR. I have a lot of pictures of the newly refurbished food court, too. Here's a link: http://www.brownfamilyvacations.com/html/POR2007.htm

So glad you liked POR! Glad to hear you had a good experience there! I was very interested in your post because you stayed at POR and WL. I have read many posts that compare POR to WL. They say they are very similar. I chose POR for our next trip because I didn't want to spend the extra money for WL. Sounds like I may have made the right choice!!! Can't wait for our trip!!!:cool1:

14 is the closest to the main building AND the path to the bus stop. To be even closer, request a ground floor room...which is what I am going to do next time.

I am so glad you loved POR. We did too! ITA about the busses...they were fine. We had to deal with busses from the Poly and they seemed pretty comparable IMO. (of course you do not have to bus to Epcot or MK remember!)

I think the next best thing for my fam would be the Epcot area because we love it so much. But POR was very close to Epcot...and the price is unbeatable for five of us!

We loved the hot tub...it was chilly while we were there.

I expected a log cabin theme which I did not think I was going to like at all...but the furnishings and bedding are MUCH more vibrant than they appear in a lot of photos I see here on the DIS.

The entertainment in the bar is GREAT!!! Kids love that!! The boats, fishing and biking...there is just so much to do!!

Glad you loved it too..

I now have 2 fav resorts for different reasons!! :cloud9:

I agree with you about the WL's food court. It REALLY needs to be expanded. The line is sometimes out into the hallway, and there isn't nearly enough dining space. :sad2:

Even though we loved the WL, I am sad to say that we won't stay there again. It just costs too much for what you actually get.

Glad to hear all these positive reports about POR. We will be there the first week of August and can't wait to try this resort. We are a family of 5 so we hope this resort will be the best for us . :)
