This was our 1st stay @ POR, we usually stay @ POP. The resort was so pretty! We were in AB section bldg. 18/2nd floor. We loved our room w/the trundle bed and double sinks. We took a horse and carriage ride one afternoon @ 5:00 and it was so relaxing and it gave us a chance to see the whole resort. One afternoon, me and my 6yr dd, dh and fil rented the kayaks and went down the river for an hour and we loved that! We really enjoyed the resort this trip. We went to the pool for 2 days but I hung out at the one behind our bldg. cause ole man island was the popular pool with the slide which my dd loved!
We loved the boat taxi to dtd! Be sure and go when it is night cause it is so pretty when it opens up to DTD and you see all the lights. Now, my fil loves to fish! He always brings his rod and fishes @ POP, he could not do this @ POR!! A rude lady came up to him one day and told him he couldn't fish but he could pay $10 for someone to help him fish for 30mins. I don't think so!!!! The parking lot is not convient at all to your room! So for you drivers beware. We had a bellman drop and pick up our luggage. We didn't like the buses! We're used to POP where they run every 5 to 10mins and my inlaws had to wait 45 mins one day for a bus to Epcot! We enjoyed the River Roost one night. We had appetizers and drinks and you have to see the entertainer, "Bob". He was great! He had everyone up and singing! We enjoyed staying @ POR but we can't wait to go back to Pop in Aug. I missed the frozen cokes too!!
Any questions, feel free!

We have stayed at POR several times in the past and we love it--however, next week we arrive at POP for a 7 day stay. It will be 2 adults DS5 and DS10--please tell me all the wonderful things we'll love at POP!!!! Is there really a noticeable difference in the room size? Will the children like the pools?

Thanks!

Well I am glad you enjoyed one of my favorite resorts:goodvibes Now when we were at POP C a CM at the lake told us guests often fish there and I asked if it were allowed and he said yes. So surely they are allowed to fish at POR too ? other than the fishin hole which is catch and release ? I would like to know Disneys official answer to this. Not that we ever fish - we wouldnt know where to start!

Thanks for sharing your info - we are staying at POR in August - so keen to know as much as possbile!

What was the food at the food court like? Anything recommended to have or avoid?

Was it a quiet resort or noisy?

Is there a laundry there - where is it located?

Thanks! :)

The kids will love the pools!!! They are much bigger than POR pools. One day I couldn't find one chair to sit in @ ole man island pool. I love everything about POP! The rooms are a little bit smaller than POR. They have 1 sink, but the shower area is the same. The buses are great @ POP. They run all the time. I liked the closet area better @ POP cause the rod is higher.

You would think POR wouldn't mind in you did the catch and release but they were always watching. They told my fil "No". He has never had a problem @ POP fishing.

We ate at the food court a few times, but most of it was just a burger and fries. We ate at Boatwrights for breakfast a few times and really liked it. The french toast was really good. Yes they have a laundry room it is over by the adult pool. Well I guess it is a adult pool because every time we went by there it had only adults in it. We stayed there in Oct. and it was really quite, not sure if it was because school was in or not. I have pics of our room if you want me to e-mail them to you. Just PM me and I will send them to you.

We loved POR & even though the resort is big, it just didn't seem that big when we got there. Looking at the maps I thought 'oh boy', but it was wonderful. Peaceful & quiet. We were in AB #38. Great building. Parking was very close, busses weren't that far away, had a quiet pool a few steps away, & it was the last AB building & then the mansions started so it was like getting the best of both worlds. The room was plenty big enough & I swear we never even saw one person walking past our room. For a bigger resort, I thought it would be crowded & it never was. Greatly enjoy the landscaping & the river. The carriage ride was a relaxing way to spend an evening. Even just watching the carriage go around the resort with other people in it was pleasant. I don't think I have one negative thing to say about the place. I most definately want to stay there again.

Magicmouse22 and Lauren101 looks like we will be joining you:goodvibes
It will be our first stay on Disney property we will be there from the 25 -30th August.
Look out for the English accent and shiny white trainers;) ;) ;) were a dead giveaway aren't we:thumbsup2

Mousiemom,
Please help clarify what I just read on TGM's site. He said that coffee makers are provided but you have to supply your own coffee. Is this correct?? I think he has it wrong. Thanks for the info.

I was just there a few weeks ago, and in this picture, between the coffee maker and the ice bucket (a little difficult to see), but there are packets of coffee and everything else you need, to make your own coffee, including those blue styrofoam cups that you see in the picture in front of the coffee maker:

the deal with the fishing is.... at pop they have a lake but fishing is not part of the theme there, so they dont have a area set aside for it and dont charge a fee (not yet ). but at por they have a fishing hole that they charge you to use (part of the bayou theme) so if just fish on your own they are not getting your $10.00 that they so desperately need . i think if someone is willing to bring there own pole they can let you catch and release, i mean i have never seen that many people even use the fising hole.

Lauren101, my family enjoys the POR food court and sometimes we go there to eat when we stay at nearby Old Key West. They are renovating now but they always had pizza and pasta at one window, burgers at another, bakery and ice cream, grab-and-go items, and our favorite was the roast chicken dinner. For around $9 0r $10 you got a large portion of chicken with side dishes -- corn, green beans, or mashed potatoes I recall -- and a piece of cornbread. We thought this was a pretty good value by Mickey standards. The refillable mugs are also a good deal.

POR is one of the prettiest Disney resorts. The grounds and all the flowers are BEAUTIFUL!

We just left the maid a note to leave more coffee every morning no decaf!! My FIL also walked to the food ct every morning and filled up our mugs. They also left the little packets of sugar/cream too.

My FIL always brings his fishing rods/and tackle but he wasn't allowed to fish on his own @ POR which was fine. It was such a pretty lake it would've been great for him and my 6yr dd to fish some evenings.

Mousiemom,

What room number did you have? Last June we were in Building 18, room number 1843.

We would go the Ol' Man Island pool earlier in the day, then when it got crowded, we would go to the quiet pool by Building 18.

I really liked the location of the building. You couldn't see the parking lot, which was nice. Yet it wasn't a long walk to the parking or to the bus stop.

Where did you park at? We parked in the lot between that is between Building 18 and the bus stop.

Our room was #1844!! The resort was very quiet and I always went to the back pool by #18. I liked the location too. We would park between 16 and 18 but it seemed like a long walk for me but maybe not.
