Just back from POP!!! A brief description of our trip.

Is the Breslau airport the same as the Kitchener one? or are they 2 completely different airports? I'm flying out of Kitchener in November to Orlando.

Breslau airport is the Kitchener airport. Have a great trip!

Uh-oh brighteyes, I wish I'd seen your post first. We just booked Northwest out of Breslau / Kitchener-Waterloo / YKF so we'll be taking the same route. That's a rotten way to start off your trip. I'm glad you got there safely & had a good time after that. I guess I'll hope for the best - they can't be that screwed up everyday.

I have a question regarding Magical Express out of the K-W airport. I see from the K-W airport website that unlike Toronto we would not clear U.S. customs at the K-W airport:

http://www.waterlooairport.ca/en/passengerservices/faq.asp#15
"15. Do passengers clear U.S. Customs & Border Protection at Region of Waterloo International Airport?
No, the Region of Waterloo International Airport does not have U.S. Customs & Border Protection at the Airport. Passengers are required to clear U.S. Customs when passengers arrive at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in the United States."

brighteyes (or maybe CJK can help here)- so that seems to fit with your above post that you had to pick up your bags in Detroit. What happens next? Do we have to lug all of our luggage with us through US Customs in Detoit? After that, do we hand off our luggage in Detroit and not see it again until we are at the resort? ie)did you have to retrieve your luggage again in Orlando?

On the return flight:
Did you use ME on the return? I'm a little confused about the process that I was reading on the transportation thread sticky as it pertains to Canadians. I know that I can use ME for sure if I carry my own luggage and load it on the bus. I'm confused on the "domestic" flight thing. I'm assuming that I'm "international" since my ultimate return flight is to Canada. The wrinkle is the connection in Detroit. It seems that on the way there we cleared US customs in Detroit so I'm wondering if I can use the Resort Airline Check-in and just check my bags at the resort and be done with it? I don't know if that makes any sense.

Thanks for any input. Perhaps I should ask on the Transport board.

Good afternoon everyone...:goodvibes
We just returned last saturday from our trip to Orlando. We flew out of Kitchener airport with Northwest. Our flight left at 6:30am to Detroit. We cleared customs in Detroit, then off to catch our connection to Orlando. We were in Orlando by 11:30am. We had no problems flying with Northwest and found it so convienant to fly out of Kitchener.
Our flight home was delayed by about an hour. We left Orlando just after 6pm, landed in Detroit at 8:40pm and had to run to catch our connection for our flight to Kitchener that left at 9pm. It was sooo tight, but there was 13 of us on the same flight from Orlando to Detroit that needed to catch the connection to Kitchener. They ended up holding the plane for us. We were in Kitchener by 10:15pm, cleared customs, got our luggage and were in our car by 10:30pm. It was wonderful. :thumbsup2
To the OP, so sorry that you had troubles on your flight....there's nothing worse than starting your holidays out that way! :sad2:

erin1998 - It's good to hear that your experience out of KW was smoother - especially since I'm locked in. Can I take it that you didn't use ME on either leg of your trip?

Me2Me, we went to Universal Studios this time, so ME wasn't an issue for us. However, I am looking at taking my son to WDW during March break and flying out of kitchener again. We will be using ME then.
When we flew into Detroit from kitchener, we first had to clear customs, then we picked up our luggage. Not too far from there, we dropped our luggage off again, went thru security (x-ray again) then off to our gate to catch our connection. It was really easy.
I priced out different airlines leaving from Toronto and Kitchener for our march break trip. Leaving from Kitchener was about $600 cheaper. Add the convienence of flying from Kitchener, it's a hands-down winner for me!
Have a great time on your holiday!
Erin

Thanks for passing that along. I'm still not sure if we'll use ME or take a towncar service with a grocery stop. If ME worked both ways then I'd give it a stronger consideration.

We did pick up our bags in detroit, but AFTER CUSTOMS. We got off the plane, lined up for customs, then went and retrieved our luggage and took it over to our gate and had it checked again. We did not see it again until the resort. I attached my ME tags before I left home. Our ticket agent checked our luggage even though we had to pick it up in Detroit.

Yes, we used ME on the return. We had to take our luggage with us on the bus. The bus driver will load it under the bus for you. We tried to use sthe resort airline check in but didn't work but she called and got our info by telephone. Since we were on a 830 am flight we had to be on the first bus from POP at 5 am. and the luggage service doesn't open till 5 am so we just took our bags to the bus ourselves from the hotel room. We checked our luggage all the way through and did not have to pick it up in detroit on the way home. We didn't see our luggage until we cleared Customs in Breslau.

Sorry for the delay in answering this for you. I just started college full time :scared: this week.

Hope this helps you.

How was the weather????????

I am not doing a trip report. It was all such a flurry of activity and I never got around to documenting each day what we did and when. That's why I just gave the very breif trip report.

I just started college full time as well :scared: so I am going to be quite busy soon. Some day I may go into a little more detail about the trip, but not a really detailed one like some of the disers do. I was not that organized to take notes on our trip, and might I add much to tired at the end of the day.

The weather was nice by the way. Very, very hot!!! A few days we hit the triple digits for sure. We did not see any rain by the way the whole week we were there until the last two days of our trip it started thunderstorming late afternoon until evening.

If you have any other questions, I would be happy to answer them. I may not be here as often though.

Stephanie
