We went up for a quick trip this weekend. We stopped by the Nick Hotel to check it out and then stayed at the Polynesian Concierge Garden View for two nights.
We've been going for four years to the Polynesian Concierge and this is our first stay in a GV room. Did it make a difference? Well... yes and no. Yes, because LVC rooms generally have a wonderful view of the castle and you can watch it change colors at night. No, because we had so many activities planned in such a short stay we weren't in the room all that much. Normally we spend a lot of time at the resort, but not on this trip.
I'll post a full review later, but here are the highlights:
* The rennovated rooms are wonderful. Very nicely done.
* The same goes for the lounge. More tables and therefore plenty of room for families.
* The offerings were as nice as ever. We only saw them one night and that was for Sushi. After eating lunch at the Kona, six pieces knocked off my wife and I for the evening. We might have gone back for desert, but the chocolate covered strawberries arrived and that was it for us.
* Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Service is as excellent as ever.
* We only went to the MK. Every day we experienced two or three ride stoppages greater than 5 minutes. This wasn't your usual "help the special needs individual" stoppage. For example, Splash Mountain required a complete restart sequence. Again, someone, for crying out loud, FIX THE "BROKEN KINGDOM"!!!
* We met wonderful, wonderful people from all over including the Carolinas, Massachusetts (purty nice folks fer Yankees
) and other states. Enjoyed giving them a toothy "Welcome to Florida, glad you missed the hurricanes!"
* Everyone in the lounge and the parks were generally nice and well behaved. We didn't see any incidents or anything.
* Oh yeah, almost forgot. Nick Hotel was nice and the kids didn't really want to leave. It was cold that day and we brought neoprene suits for the children so they didn't freeze (remember, we're Floridians, people...) when the temperature dropped to 75-70 and then below. The other guests kids had a great time but you could see them shaking uncontrollably when they got out of the water. The suits made a big difference, so think about that on your winter visits down here.
Overall an excellent trip for a quick 3 day weekend. While my wife and I are kind of fried on the parks, our children are still at the age where they can't get enough. We'll keep going back until they decide Universal or Busch Gardens sounds interesting. At any rate, my wife and I still enjoy the wonderful dining and services Disney offers. That's all for now. Off to plan my new diet...
