We had an absolutely wonderful time and can't wait to go back. We stayed GVC, had a lovely 1st floor room with lots of shrubs in front so very private (though I could imagine some would not like this arrangement because there was no access to the grounds from this room, but it suited us just perfectly.)

We love EVERYTHING about this resort, and while the concierge amenities were outstanding and the resort itself is breathtaking (in our opinion), the aspect that most spoiled us was the convenience. I know many rave about the monorail access, which is GREAT, the most overlooked benefit of this resort is its location right at the front door of the TTC. No matter where we wished to go, it never took longer than 25 minutes from our room (and that counts the waits for buses).

An outstanding vacation, excellent resort (and it's unbelievable how lucky we were with the weather...our prayers are with the residents and guests in Orlando now...they are absolutely terrified, already reeling from Charley).

I'd be more than happy to answer any questions. ALOHA!

Boo-hoo. Now I have to delete my counter. I envy anyone who still has a counter!

Welcome Back....glad you had a great time!

The POLY has always been my favorite since 1971!::yes::

After all this preparation that we've been doing for the past 2 days (including standing in line for 7 hours to get plywood for my work's windows) your post put a bright spot in my day. As you can see by my counter I'll be in Disney about 10 days (if nothing severe happens here or there). Praying to the Disney Gods all is well in FL.

Ok OK Frances, So you're a Hurricane but do you have to go Disney just cause Charlie did? LOL

In my mind I can hear it. "Frances now that you've become a hurricane what are you going to do?" "I'm going to Disney World." Bad joke

Iloveeeyore, What was your room number?

Shirley

Welcome back!

Oh yes, the Polynesian is the best! ::yes:: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay there. And what timing - between major hurricanes! Make sure to put that in your scrapbook!

Debbie

Glad you enjoyed your stay and managed to squeeze in between the two weather systems. We stayed back in June and I was in HEAVEN! I love the Poly. It has been my favorite since I was a little girl. If I hit the lottery I am moving there permanently. :)

Welcome back! Glad to hear you had a great time. I can't wait for our upcoming trip and I was just wondering did you eat many snacks/meals at the lounge? And if so what was offered and how was it? We are not big eaters so I hope to be able to at least grab something for breakfast each morning and also maybe a couple of evenings. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Glad you had such a wonderful stay. There is nothing like the Polynesian...the magic and as you noted the convenience are simply the best!::yes:: ::yes::

Just wondering if you ate at Ohana? We are planning on trying it out in December. Sounds like a good time!!

DisneyWisher- our room # was 1532, 3rd room away from reception on the garden (quiet pool) side. We noticed that 1531 and 1530 would have been even more private, if you like that feature. If you want an open view of sky and more distant landscaping, these rooms would NOT be your first choice.

WeLoveThePoly- it already IS in my scrapbook. They were predicting the hurricane almost from our very first day there, and thought it might make landfall by Thurs. the 2nd, which was the day we were flying out...so we were watching very closely the whole time. I feel a little guilty being so relieved for myself when so many others are suffering such terrible loss and disappointment! The cast members, though terrified for their own safety and property, managed to be extremely efficient and reassuring to all the guests.

colleen costello- Me too!!! I stayed there so many times as a kid (first time in '71) and have so many magical memories. I was so happy and lucky to have the opportunity to finally share with DH and Dkids, and they have fallen in love with the place, too, and now we have made our own memories (tear).

TinkerChelle- we ate the continental breakfast every day (except 2, one at Cindy's and one at Kona Cafe), and found something for everyone. There was hot oatmeal, a variety of cold cereals including fruit loops and raisin bran (some others, but those were the ones my kids ate, and I don't eat cereal, so I didn't notice), fruit salad (mostly melon), danish (cheese, apple and cinnamon), mini blueberry muffins, bagels, english muffins, coffee, tea, milk, juices. There may have also been whole fruit (apples, bananas, pears). At lunchtime there were snacks only: goldfish, gummy worms, M&Ms, cookies (oatmeal raisin, sugar and chocolate chip), and whole fruit (apples, bananas, pears), lemonade, iced tea and orange-guava juice. We only ate the evening hors d'ouevres once, Friday, which was fried rice and chicken wings with hot sauce on the side, cheese and crackers, pineapple with caramel like 'Ohana, and wines. It was good, but we were never around the resort at that time of day again. I think if you're not big eaters, it could suffice for dinner...my kids accidentally made it their dinner that night as they had no appetite at the Luau. A few times we grabbed some dessert service. There were always very small samplings of about 5 assorted desserts, like tropical mousse, pineapple upside down cake, german chocolate cake, and I can't think of others. Looked for the macadamia tart, but never saw it...maybe next time. Unlimited sprite, coke and diet coke always available, as well as the whole fruits.

ciera321 - YES!! We ate at 'Ohana and loved it! We had eaten there in 2001 and loved it and had it on our "must do" list this time and we were not disappointed. It was fun, but mostly, we go for the food. I'm not a big turkey fan, but that turkey is just mouth-wateringly yummy. Of course the steak, shrimp and pork are great, too...and the appetizers...and the pineapple with caramel!

Now you need to start planning for the next trip and fire up the counter again!
