Just back from Nick Hotel

Thanks for the info. I am starting to feel more comfortable about our February trip. I will not be wasting money on the buffet but I do plan on booking a CB for the kids.

One more tip. When you check in, or at guest services in the mall, ask about what time the auditions are being held for the next day's Nick Live shows. I think the ones on our Saturday were around 3:00, at the big pool. They choose about 10 families to participate as teams in the various shows, with one lucky kid in each show getting the priviledge of being slimed...

LisaRay, as I suspected, my "surprise" was thoroughly underwelming. When I picked up my boys from school, they asked where we were going. I said, "Orlando, but not WDW". Nothing else said until we passed through Orlando, and DS 7 started complaining about when we were going to get to the Nickhotel. ???!!!! My DH and I grilled him about how he knew, and he just guessed it, because that is the only other place in Orlando besides WDW... :confused3 They were so excited the entire time they were there, it more than makes up for what will certainly be my last big time surprise..... ;) until the next mystery trip, possibly to NASA??? (When will I learn??)

We just got back from a week at the Nick hotel. There were five kids and two adults in a two bedroom kid suite. Everybody had a great time. During the week the place is practically deserted so our children participated in every game and show they had. Saturday and Sunday morning the hotel is packed. If you can, go during the week. I do agree the food is blah but since we fed five children and two adults dinner for $30.00 I cant really complain. That was for the prime rib buffet on Thursday night. Plus we got a pitcher of Sangria for $18.00. That was definately worth it and helped us get through karaoke later. Housekeeping did a terrific job seeing five kids trashed the room on a daily basis. Anytime we called the front desk for anything from extra linen to more coffee someone was at our door in five minutes. The lifeguards and other staff are wonderful with the children. For something extra our two oldest did a mini scuba course that they loved. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them.

Thinking of staying here the Saturday night after our Disney cruise... sounds fun but probably a bit much if I'm looking to relax while DS (6) plays in the pool? Also, do the slides always close at 7:00? That seems so early! :earseek:

Kimmielee, I'm afraid that relaxing with a 6 yr old at these pools is not an option, unless you can get him to spend the entire in the hot tup with you! But you wouldn't want to sit on the sidelines and let him have all the fun, anyway. DH and I were on our feet almost the entire time we were at the pools. They were crowded, although not really that bad considering the hotel was fully booked. The only times we sat down were the brief times that DS5 and DS7 wanted to warm up in the spa, and while we were sliding down the slides. We went last weekend, and the pools closed at 11:00 Friday and Saturday, with the slides staying open until 9:00.

OMG!
One other question I can't quite anyone to committ to.....is Sponge Bob EVER just walking around the premises? Is the ONLY place you would ever see him at the character breakfast? :confused3

We saw Spongebob and Patrick in the "mall" while we were having lunch on Saturday(Spongebob is much shorter than I expected in real life than on TV!) , then after they left, Cosmo and Wanda came out. They just stood there in front of the Nick Cafe, didn't really do anything..We saw Squidward at check-in, and caught a glimpse of Dora while walking past the character breakfast on Sunday morning.

Just made reservations for thanksgiving weekend cause my 11 year old wants to stay here. Thanks for the info on the food, have to see what is in the area and maybe will have to rent a vehicle.

Was the hotel as cute as it looks? I was staying there the year I bought into DVC but it was just the suites. It was nice then too.

We stayed at the Nick Hotel 10/29/05-11/5/05. We had a 1 bedroom Spongebob suite with twin beds. It was a small suite, but it worked out really well. In comparison to a regular, 2 bed, hotel room, this room was great! It had a living area with sofa bed, small table/chairs and mini kitchen with small fridge, microwave and sink. The bathroom was adequate-not overly huge or small. The kids room was cute-not a lot of room, but fine for the kids. I saw a bunk bed room and IMHO I thought the twin room was nicer. The game system in the room was great! We brought our own games and the kids played every time we were at the room. The other bedroom was also nice with a locking door (only a curtain on the kids room, which was fine). The bed in the regular bedroom was a bit hard for me, but my DH loved it! I got used to it after a couple of nights. The other beds and the sofa bed all felt fine. The 3 TV's were also great, as we had 5 in the room-3 kids and 2 adults. We felt quite comfortable the entire week. Our room was facing the Oasis pool, which was a good location. It was quiet and the view was nice.

I have to say that I was expecting terrible food, but the food was not too bad. The character breakfast was decent-I wouldn't say outstanding, but I really have no complaints. The characters were great-gave us plenty of attention. We saw Spongebob, Patrick, The Fairly Odd Parents & Dora. The Pizza Hut & A&W were big hits with the kids and even we ate plenty of pizza that week! DH & the kids hit the buffet w/free kids meals one day and they said it was ok.

The entertainment at the Nick Hotel is fantastic! We spent 2 full days just hanging around the hotel. We spent time at the waterslides, played games, etc.... The kids loved everything! There are outside games and inside games! They do Bingo and you win game tokens! My son loved this and walked away with at least 20 tokens! The kids all got slimed at the pool. The night shows were also fun! We were the family one night on one of the shows. My DD loved the kareoke, too! Before we left, they started their Spongebob Christmas Show, which was also good.

We all had a really good time at the Nick Hotel. Even my DH says he wouldn't mind going back. I think the time of year was good, as it wasn't super crowded. It was pretty easy to get picked for a game, etc... The noise level was also not high, as I've seen mentioned by others. I think it's a great family hotel. :)

LOL Of course I was thinking of the Grandkids. They love Sponge Bob!

what kind of game system did they have? My friend was there recently and said she thought you had to pay for it.

The game system not sure it is built into the TV. The food wasn't bad but I this is my report.

Checked into the hotel really smoothly (forgot my priority card tho so no points don't think) the hotel is huge. Went to the room which yes is small, told them that they needed to re-arrange the livingroom. I thought it was really cute. Had a 1 bedroom suite with a king size bed which I got advanced purchased at 111.00 a night. So here he go...

the coffee pot was dirty and I really tried to clean it but it wasn't coming clean.

The silverware was as follows:
1 spoon
2 knives
6 forks (salad)
2 plates (dinner)
can opener
4 cups and plates for under the cups
3 plastic 6 oz approx. glasses
2 slaad plates
pots and pans

2 tupperwear bowls (1 was cracked, unuseable)
colendar
measuring cups
toaster
dish washing liquid
microwave built into the wall
a top stove
full size refrig./
oven mitts
paper towels

There was nothing to washing with (sponge type)
The kitchen was really big also but the floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. A bar with 3 chairs was on the lr side.

There are no curtains in the lr just thoe paneled slats which the sun can come into. There were multiple curtains in the BR

There is a little sort of room (can't describe) which you put your makeup on at with a makeup mirror, which I thought was really cool had never seen that anywhere. Blow dryer was here.

The bathroom was really big and fully stocked. Loved that the is a light in the shower which turns off separately from the bathroom light.

The bedroom was huge I thought. Iron and Ironing board with a king size bed with 4 pillows and a tv and bureau. Wasn't too happy with the placement of both of them. They are in the corner next to the window and the bureau is only 3 - 4 small drawers. TV was about 32 inch.

LIvingroom had a queen size sofa bed a chair (lounge type) big TV not sure how big just bigger then 32 inch on a metal TV stand which was really stupid and too big for the lr. They had the phone on a table next to the tv which also I thought was a stupid place for the table but no room to put it cause the chair and the sofabed took up the whole wall, which was why I suggested they re-arrange the lr.

Went to the food court and got P from PH, which was what you would expect from PH. Didn't eat dinner there, went out, drove.

Breakfast the next day wasn't bad, not as bad as I thought it would be. The pancakes were fine, eggs, not dry enough for me, but they had a typical breakfast buffet with fruit, bagels, donuts, etc.

I would definately go back which I intend to do so.

Someone mentioned making reservations for the shows....where do I do this and how? How do I get my priority club number onto my ressie? I booked through DU. Do I have to tell them?

Hi,
You can make them when you get there. The only thing we missed was the cookie Decorating on Sundays..Make sure you make this as soon as you get there.
I promise you will have a great time at this Hotel..

We have stayed there twice and have enjoyed it both times, especially the kids!! It is a bit loud, but I think we expected that. The rooms are very nice and thought the service was excellent.
The only thing we did not like was the tranportation to the parks, we always took our own vehicle to them.

You make the reservations in the mall area at the customer service desk. You can call ahead and get your Priority number on your reservation-then you won't have to worry about it. :)

The game system is Sony Playstation 2 and it is free; however, you have to rent the games, if you don't bring your own, which is not free-I think it was around $6/game. We brought our own games. :)
