First off, we had no issues with security at MCO. Our flight was at 10:30 a.m., we got in line about 8:50 a.m., and were at the gate by 9 a.m.
We took Spirit Airlines, which we've had some issues with in the past (not having their own gates, terrible check-in procedures, old uncomfortable planes, etc.) but we tried them again because of the great rate ($136 roundtrip Detroit to MCO).
Well, Spirit now has great new airplanes, with leather seats, and have upgraded the rest of their act quite a bit. Check in was easy, they also had curbside checkin, too. They are now just as nice to take (maybe nicer) than Northwest.
We took others' advice, and DH dropped off me, DS and all the luggage at curbside checkin. I checked us all in, got our boarding passes, and he returned the rental car and we met up at security. It was a snap.
Also, I highly recommend taking the 417 to the airport from Disney. It was a snap, and there was NO TRAFFIC, unlike how snarled up I-4 gets in the morning, and this was at rush hour! It was great. If you ask at the front desk or valet of your Disney hotel, they have preprinted instructions on how to get to the airport. We were checking in the luggage less than a half-hour after leaving the Beach Club.
