DW, DD (10), her friend, and I spent a terrific weekend in HHI in a 1 BR. It was room 3012, a lock-off. We got into Hilton Head about 9 pm and checked in after a quick trip to Publix. The room was in good shape and close to the pool. Our only complaints were the heard of elephants upstairs from us (noise at all hours of the day and night) and the slide was closed for repairs. It will be closed all this week.
Once checked in, we jumped in the hot tub for the ten or so minutes we had. DW insisted it would be open until 11, but I knew better. I always do.
We woke to a bright, sunny morning and were down at the pool by 8:30. Upon finding that the slide would be closed, we headed over to the beach house for the rest of the day. We played alot of pool basketball, and let me tell you, one-on-two, one-on-three - I was unstoppable. But then who wouldn't be against ten-year-olds. We also spent alot of time on the beach. The ocean was pretty warm and best of all - no jellyfish! We also had a good lunch at Signals.
We took the 5 pm Dolphin Cruise and saw about 20 dolphins and alot of huge houses. The skipper was fun and knew alot about Hilton Head. He spent alot of time there with his grandparents, and you can tell he really loves the place. A tip from another vacationer: take the cruise when the shrimp boats are coming back in for the day. The dolphins follow them in droves.
After the trip we cleaned up and went to Old Oyster Factory for dinner. We sat out on the deck, which was a little chilly, but nice. The sunset was gorgeous! The food there is good and fresh, but probably not worth the prices they charge. For the second time in a row, the service was very slow. We'll likely find another seafood place next time around.
Our plan was to play mini golf after dinner, but we went back to Big Murggie's and played pool.
The next morning we awake to a downpour, which lasted until about 11 am. We cleared out just in time for check-out and went back to the beach house. We had it to ourselves for the longest time, but it started to get crowded after the heat came on. We met a nice family from PA who goes and pays cash for a week every year. Of course we encouraged them to look for a resale. We collected some beautiful shells in the tide pools. We even saw a live starfish, which the kids thought was pretty cool.
Alas, we had to leave about 3:30. All in all it was a great trip, and we can't wait to go back!
