We had a great time!

We arrived in Hershey on Wed. and decided to head over to Chocolate World first. We rode the chocolate ride which the kids loved and then proceeded to the shopping area. Then we went on the Trolley tour ride, it was 45 minutes long and we really liked it. We had a great guide and it was really interesting even my kids had a good time. We learned all about Mr. Hershey, the school and the foundation of the company; I'm not normally a tour kind of person but I really enjoyed this one. Along the way we were given free samples of different Hershey's candy and then after the tour was over we got a full size candy bar.

We then headed over to the Hampton Inn and Suites on Chocolate Ave, literally 5 minutes away. We booked a King size 2 room suite with a AAA rate of 150 w/ tax. What a great room, nothing fancy but clean and large. The first room had a kitchen, living room area with pull out couch, counter area with chairs and a large TV. Second room had a King size bed large bathroom counter area with double sinks, large closet and then a seperate huge bathroom. Like I said before it was nothing fancy but a great value, would definitely return!

Next day we woke up early and went to Hershey park, park opened at 10am and we headed straight to the back right of the park because everyone else was going to the left. It was empty back there and we rode a bunch of rides fast. Ate lunch early and then we headed over to the zoo. LESSON LEARNED ....don't go to the zoo till LATER in the day! It was mobbed with school groups, ouch my ears, those kids are loud. ;) Later in the day we took the monrail ride over the zoo and it was empty.

There were rides for all ages. I loved that the kiddie rides were scattered throughout the park, this way I could take my DD on some of the big rides and my mom took DS on a couple kiddie ones, it's a real nice set-up. The new roller coaster, Storm Runner, looks insane! I really wanted to ride but since DD was too short I didn't want to make everyone wait for me since the line was on the longer side.

Some things we learned-

-Go to the zoo late in the day!
-Bring bathing suits because there are lots of water rides and locker rooms to change in.
-Go to the back right of the park at opening to get there follow everyone to the right and then make a turn by the sky ride.

We had a really great time. the park was VERY clean & the employees were all friendly and helpful. This is definitely my favorite non Disney park to visit, I'd rather drive the extra hour to get here then visit Dorney which is only an hour away.

Long post. ;)

Hi I have a question. My kids 11 and 8 are not thrill ride seekers. Is there enought non-thrill rides to make it worth my while?I would hate to get there and find there were only rollercoasters and ferris wheels, basically leaving us with nothing to do. Thank you in advance for your time.

I thought there was a really nice variety of rides through out the park for all ages. We only went on 2 roller coasters while we were there and were busy all day long.

Hershey Park is wonderful. We have a DS11 and DD3 and they both have a good selection of rides to go on. They have the older section grouped nicely with amix of Older rides and kiddie rides. I agree, it is my favorite non-Disney park. Clean, lots of trees and lots of great rides, and of course CHOCOLATE! :teeth:

:Pinkbounc Thank you both for your advice. We have been there for christmas but never during warm weather. We can't do Disney this year and Hershey was on my list of possibilities. :bounce:

DD13 is at Hershey Park today for "Music in the Parks". It's an annual competition including choral groups, bands, and orchestra. After the competition, around 2PM they are allowed to go into the park in groups and with a chaperone. Our middle school goes annually and they always have a great time!!

The best thing about Chocolate World is the little candy bar you get at the end of the ride. My friends and I used to ride it a couple of times just for the chocolate. :D Oh, and to smell chocolate the whole way through the town is wonderful!

You have to get the Chocolate milkshakes in choclate world. I'm not a milkshake person but these things are to die for! I usually have at least 2 when I'm there...oh and don't forget to keep the cup!

We love hershey park. Great rides and very clean. I'm kind of sad that we aren't going this year.

out of curiosity, what else is there to do in the area?

They have some caverns you can pay to see and Outlet malls. There is also another park that they recently bought several miles away.

Don't forget the Spa at the Hotel Hershey - Whipped Cocoa jacuzzi bath and Peppermint Pattie body wraps - yummy!!

We are headed there soon, thanks for the great review!

My thoughts on this are no, we took our three kids a few years ago and my son basically rode the train and that was it.

Given their close proximity, the clientele between Hershey and Dorney at least from the times I was there are no where near each other. Hershey doesn't seem to get the element that Dorney does. The guests at Hershey are so much more well behaved and courteous than the average Dorney crowd. I have vowed never to step foot into Wildwater Kingdom again. The people by and large act like animals and line jumping is the norm not the exception. It has been many years and I want to give Dorney another shot, I hope to be proven wrong. Again there are exceptions to the rule and not everybody at Hershey or Disney for that matter is courteous or well behaved but overall I have noticed the poor guest behavior at Dorney more than any other park.
