Hi everyone- it was absolutely fabulous. We were in the main bldg., and our room was beautiful- we could see the castle directly in front. We sat out on the balcony and watched the fireworks. The food and drink offerings were nice, and the evening desserts terrific! My husband and son played chess and checkers while munching and there are so many neat places with chairs on different levels to relax... By far, my favorite was the music- the piano player and the band were wonderful, and the ambiance that is created by this beautiful resort is breathtaking. The decorations in the lobby and hotel areas were pretty and the gingerbread house was neat too! I so enjoyed this resort. We also received a complimentary late check-out, which I was grateful for. The parks were so festive and the fireworks show were outstanding. MVMCP was done nicely too! It truly was a splurge for us, but well worth it!!!

Welcome back! I'm glad to hear you had a great time! Would you happen to remember your room number, and what the bedding was? Thanks! ;)

Thank you so much...I keep having panic attacks about the money we are spending next month on our trip and second guessing...thinking about cancelling....really bad attacks...

Your post has really helped....going to subscribe so every time I get worried I can read it!

Hi we leave for the Main Building in 15 days. I was wondering if you could give some more details about the food offerings. Thanks for the information. Sounds like you had a great trip!

We are leaving in 9 days, but just returned from the GF ain bldg conc in Sept. If they have not changed the food offerings since then (and I doubt it because it was a "new" thing they were doing). This is what they offered in Sept. Every night had a "theme"...Asian, Mexican,Italian etc, besides the cheese crackers, veggies and dips and the usual cocktail food stuff.. The food was also served in individual serving dishes, which is great, no body has to use their hands to touch the food. I thought the food was excellent. They even had sushi! Also they added champagne to the wine selections, which is a nice touch.

As far as coffee, they offer the regular type in an urn but now also have a cappucino/espresso/latte/hot chocolate machine which makes excellent coffee with the push of a button.

I really liked the addition serving the food on smaller individual plates. People picking at the food and not taking it is really a pet peeve of mine. It appears this solved the solution of that.

We were in room 4404, which had 2 queen size beds and a couch which did not appear to be a day bed. There was plenty of furniture-a round table with 2 padded chairs, a night stand, an armoire with the tv and clothes drawers in it. There was a long stool at the end of the bed too. The refrig/bar we did not touch, as the food and snack, liquor offerings from concierge were all that we needed. The bathroom has the toilet and tub separate from the sinks- great feature! Marble counter tops were long and convenient. Plenty of towels- 8 bath towels along with extra hand towels and wash clothes too! At other hotels, there usually aren't enough of them(a pet peeve of mine!), but not here. Anything you needed, they would be willing to accomadate- absolutely fabulous service!! Our room was smack in the center looking directly at the castle from the balcony. The balcony furniture was 2 chairs and a small table. The balcony was a nice size and felt private. Being on the 4th floor was nice too, as the food offerings are on that floor, however: the other 2 floors are easily accessible by elevator(pretty inside), or easy stair steps. We did go up to the other floors and look around, the seating areas were pleasant looking too- and the music can be enjoyed from any floor. This, to me, is the "Christmas" resort- absolutely gorgeous!!! The main bldg. puts you smack dab in the middle of the "action" and the ambiance is breathtaking and you know and feel like you are in a special place. Everyone was friendly and would go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and well taken care of. We were dropped off by Tiffany Town car and met directly by a concierge staff member, who called us by our name, and took us up to be checked in- these little things can make a big difference in your experience- which is exactly what I was looking for this time..

Food offerings- Breakfast- Assorted danishes, breads, rolls, cereals, muffins, bagels, fruits, melons, and cold cuts of ham rolled up, and cheese. There were three types of juices- cranberry, orange and apple. Skim milk and whole milk. Regular coffee and assorted tea bags. A machine with cappacino, espresso, coffees, hot chocolate, etc. Water bottles too.
Snacks- cookies-sugar, choc. chip, and oatmeal raisin. cheese tray, chips, veggies and dips, nuts, and fruit. Pink lemonade, reg lemonade, ice tea, sodas, always water bottles too. (Large ones, that you pour from)
Hot foods- Thai chicken on skewers, seasoned herbed beef on skewers, different individual dishes of assorted veggies and olives, cookies, small tuna sandwiches, pb &jelly, cheese tray, etc
Evening desserts and assorted wines- choc desserts, gingerbread cookies,
lemon bars, cream filled puffs,- Everything was delicious!!

Hope this helps some of you. I know it is very expensive- to be perfectly honest, it is the most we have ever spent on a room ( it is my Anniversary, Christmas, Sweetest Day, etc... present- and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment at the resort. By the way, the pool's slide was fun and the water was warm.

Sorry. Here's more.

Just got back too. Wasn't lucky enough to get upgrade. Great trip though!!

We read about DJ, the manager, and figured we would never meet him. we did. He really helped us out. They had booked us for 2006! He took care of it and while they were fixing the issue, he had a pillow fight with my boys. Here is the manager of the GF, in his suit, playing with my kids. That is pure Disney. He even remembered their names all week. We were amazed. He must see thousands of people a week and he remembered my kids names. That sealed the deal, we will never stay anywhere else at WDW.

Overall, service was OK. DJ is a bright spot and the way things used to be.

We loved the piano player and the band! After a long day (even with an afternoon break) in the parks it was so nice to just relax to such beautiful music. The seats were comfy and the atmosphere so inviting. It was nice to let the music just wash over you. A delightful way to end a wonderful day!

I love the GF! Can't wait to go back!

:earsboy:

Thanks for sharing your report. Just yesterday, I had asked about concierge service at GF (you can still read it on this board). I was thinking about doing this as a surprise for my fiancee when we honeymoon in WDW in July 2007. Sounds like it was fun.

This is great to hear. We are tossing around either AKL CL or GF CL/Main Bldg. It's quite a bit more money for GF and the reviews haven't been stellar. I spent most of today digging further and it appears that Sugar Loaf is getting the majority of the bad reviews. We like to travel to the nicest places, and I think maybe after reading this, GF is the best of the best?

While DJ I am sure would one day love to be the Manager, he is not at this time. Kent Mitchell is the General Manager. DJ is part of the resort guest services staff and a very good one.

Thanks. I assumed he was the General Manager. In that case, he deserves a raise :earboy2:

I am sure he would agree, he is a very valued part of the staff. One of the things that Mr. Mitchell did when he became GM was to collect some of Disney's best from the other resorts. DJ was at the Yacht Club. I am sure he is missed.

One of the nicest things you could do for him, is to write Disney at Guest Communications and let them know exactly what you shared here, it will go in his personnel file and benefits his advancement in the company. :flower:

DJ works at the Front Desk. Last time I was there, he was working in the lobby from 9-5 everyday. Like a roving concierge/manager.

I figured if he was the GM, I didn't need to do anything. If he's just a regular manager, I want to do something nice. Thanks Sammie.

And I can't figure out why... We love the SL building! I've heard complaints *It doesn't have a tv.* Hmmmm ..... When we are on vacation we never turn on a tv.... And it makes the lounge much quieter without having a tv on! My kids don't need a tv to keep them quiet. :)
We were just there in Oct and we are going back in Feb! :teeth:
