We got back Sunday night from a 2 1/2 week trip to Florida. We loved WDW! I'll be writing a trip report as soon as I get over this darn cold I caught on our last day.

We had a couple of curve balls thrown at us with hurricane Charley, but we were able to roll with the punches and make the best of the situation. We were supposed to leave Los Angeles on Friday 8/13 at 10:00 a.m. All Thursday night we had the TV set to the Weather Channel. Supposedly the hurricane would bypass Orlando. Right before we were due to leave, I checked our flight and nothing had changed. Well, we got to LAX at 8:00 a.m. and when I went to print our boarding passes from the Delta self-service kiosk, a message popped up directing me to the counter. To make a long story longer, our flight was cancelled. Unfortunately we couldn't get on another one until the next day at 10:30 p.m., connecting in Cincinnati, arriving in Orlando Sunday around noon. I was initially very upset because this was our very first trip to WDW and I had planned everything to the hilt. I had hoped to avoid my two travel pet peeves, the red eye and having to connect in another city. After I got my self together I remembered an important piece of advice I learned here on the DIS which is to go with the flow when things don't go exactly as planned. We had tons of luggage and I had to decide how we were going to get back home since practically everyone I know was at work. Add to that the disappointment of the kids and breaking the "vacation mode." I thought, hey, why not just stay near the airport instead of going all the way back home even though we only live 20 minutes away from the airport. We ended up staying at Embassy Suites until it was time to leave for the airport the next evening. We had a great time and were able to spend quality one on one time while we were there.

I only meant to write a few lines and I've gone on and on. I justed wanted to thank all of you on the DIS for answering all of my newbie questions. As I said, I'll be working on a very long trip report as soon as I feel better. Thanks again everyone!

Hey there,

Glad you had a great time, and I am so glad that you figured out an alternative to keep that time at the beginnning still vacation and have some quality family time. That is what is important. I know you must have been devistated at first because we are all Plan-aholics or we wouldn't be on this board.

I can't wait to read your trip report!!

Welcome back!! Hope you're feeling better soon. My daughter was the same way--on the last day or two she started getting sick. Look forward to reading your trip report after you're better. Sorry it got off to a rocky start but hopefully it was nothing but improvements after that!
