Hi! We returned Friday from our first trip to SSR. Luckily, we were able to get an earlier flight and we hightailed it out of there just as the storm was entering the Orlando area. We were the last plane out of the airport!.
We arrived on 8/7 from Orlando airport via Happylimo, which was recommended to us by someone here on the boards. The driver made a grocery stop at Publix and was generally terrific. We checked in at the Carriage house around 7 pm. The reception area is huge, but it was practically empty and we were checked in right away. Had room 2836... a "Garden View," which was actually a view of the Congress Park bus stop. The room was immaculate. Since I had requested a view of DD, I was able to get transferred the next day to room 1147. Had a terrific view of Fulton's Crab House and Fireworks from the patio. The room was almost soundproof. Some of the sub-woofer bassnotes from DD could be heard in the room between 11 and 2 am, but it wasn't disruptive. Found the staff, especially bell services to be gracious with excellent service. Girlfriend went to the Spa for an Aromatheraphy facial and bodywrap (DVC discount!) and loved it. We loved High Rock Spring, especially the slide. We loved the fact that the resort was nto crowded (sure that will change soon.) Bus service to and from the parks was timely. No wait longer than 10-15 minutes.
BTW you have to try the Austrailian Lobster Tails at Fultons!
With this being our first trip, we were just looking to "get it out of the way" and use our points elsewhere. However, we found WDW to have so much to offer that we can't wait to go back, not only for the parks, but even just for the resort experience. We can't wait to try the other resorts, but we are also very happy with SSR. We loved the decor, the pool, and the walking distance to DD. We are very happy with our decision to purchase our DVC membership.
Will probably do a long weekend there agin mid winter and hoping for Disney Paris in 05!
