We just got back from our first DVC trip. BWV, Boardwalk view, room 2047/2048, a 2 bedroom right above the Screen Door.

We were quite content with the condition and size of the room. Had a party of six (my mother in law and her sister, our two preschoolers, and ourselves), and everything worked out fine. Plenty of storage space - especially the closet in the master bedroom! The only trash we saw in the hall had obviously been put there by cleaning staff in the middle of the day.

I wouldn't want to sleep adults for a week on the hideabed - but it was fine for kids. After a week in the bed in the master bedroom my back was out of whack and it was nice to be back in my own bed. My husband noticed it more than I did, but the mattress definately had a trench! However, for a hotel bed it was nothing unusual, just nothing great (and I have a fantastic bed at home, so I'm spoiled). (We did mention that maybe the mattress should be checked and scheduled for replacement to the desk staff).

That room is handicapped accessible. I could see having the studio only with small kids (and no tub) could be a problem, but we didn't really see any issues with the room for able bodied people other than a lack of tub in the studio. I wouldn't hesitate to accept an accessible room again. We had requested non-smoking, and the room was a smoking room, but I didn't notice at all until I noticed on day 3 that we didn't have the little non smoking sign on the door.

However, I don't think I'd bother with the Boardwalk View again. It wasn't great - we had a room with a closed balcony, so you couldn't see much if you were sitting down. And it was noisy. Most nights we were too tired to notice, but occationally we slept light enough for something to drift up from the Boardwalk, which was loud until well after midnight. I will also note that I find the big "Epcot" over Spaceship Earth to be an abomination, so that may not have helped. I'll leave the coveted view to others to whom it matters more. I think my kids will be just as happy to look at the pool - and my husband seems to have a thing for the clown.

The kids really enjoyed the pool - even with the slide closed. They are beginning swimmers, so the loaner swim vests from the community hall were wonderful! We did go over to SAB one day, but the kids couldn't be talked into going back.

The walk to Epcot was wonderful and short! The walk to MGM is much longer - we never took it (we didn't make it to MGM except for a quick Fantasmic trip one evening), but I took a stroll down it one morning to scope it out for successive trips. The hotel is beautiful and we really enjoyed it.

We did more laundry and cooking (breakfast of eggs - my aunt in law is "Atkins-ing" - which made my traditional Disney breakfast of a roll in the parks out of the question for all of us) than I ever expected. Laundry was so convienent. And when we ran out of eggs, I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonableness of the prices at the Screen Door.

Transportation was nothing unusual. Crowded buses in the morning, empty if you went to the MK at 10:00. Since I didn't think it was bad, but listened to people saying it was horrible, I think the BW transportation situation is a matter of expectations. I never expect to do anything but stand on a bus to the MK early in the day getting on at the last stop - I watched people stand on a bus getting on at the GF to the AK on my last trip. Knowing the "system" helps too - a long line in the heat for a bus at AK, we'd all have been standing. But the bus to MGM pulled up first, and we hopped on, then sat comfortably waiting for the boat for the ride back over to the Epcot area. We did discover the wonder of the cab. Around $10 gets you a van for six pretty much anywhere (you get dropped at TTC for MK, so you still need to catch the ferry or monorail). Very useful for traveling with two seniors and two preschoolers. And with a cab ride or two a day - plus the towncar service, still much cheaper (and - for us - much less hassle) than renting a minivan.

Disney answers remain as exasperating as ever. One CM gives one answer to a question - the next gives a completely different answer. Tried three times to get my PSs printed out by the front desk before finding a CM who could get it done.

All in all, I thought it was a very good investment - a more pleasant stay than our previous Deluxe hotel Disney stay with children. It will be hard "rooming" with our kids in a hotel room again. I think my husband thought it was a great investment just in that we had some privacy in the master bedroom .......

Thanks for the detailed report. Makes me wish my trip was sooner. Do you happen to remember which of the room numbers was the studio?

Welcome home (or is it welcome back)
Sandy

Glad you had fun. We are getting ready to take our first trip to a DVC resort. We bought into SSR so we can't go home yet. :( but we are going to VWL.

Anyway I am with you. The view isn't that important. You aren't in the room much, and when you are the blinds are generally closed. At least for us. I have thing about people looking into our room. LOL

I picked out a few interesting parts of your great report:

You reported the mattress situation. Good! The best way to keep up the accomodations is to make sure we report problems.

It was a smoking room but you didnt notice. Good! Means they keep the rooms clean. It also means to me I should not care if i get a smoking room or not. More rooms to choose from!

Brilliant move to take the MGM bus and then the boat. I will file that in the back of my pea brain.

Cast members are not perfect. Some are new, some are hungover...whatever- no matter, things eventually get worked out!

Sounds like you had a good time. We will be staying for the 1st time time "home" at BWV next May in a 1BR. 10th Trip to WDW!

Thank you for your report.

Sandy,

The room numbers above are wrong. It would have been 2047 and 2049. Not sure which one was the studio - it was the one closer to Jellyrolls if anyone knows which way the room numbers run.

The rooms are already logged on your spreadsheet. You may want to note the enclosed balcony.

Another thing I didn't note....

Checking in I chatted up the desk clerk, which I always do. I talked about the confirmed BWV making less problems at check in. He said it solves some, creates others. Namely, that people get the BWV for part of their trip (say check in on Friday and have it Friday night and Saturday, but didn't get it for Sunday on) and then refuse to move. They kick them out, but it isn't pleasant for anyone. Mulling this over, I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped letting you switch rooms for view only.

We did get checked into our room at arrival - about 2:00pm.

Thanks for the report....glad you enjoyed BWV....I have the same feeling about BW view....I found it a little too noisy for my likes...I like my cheap seats (standard view)...

Welcome back! Glad you had a good trip.

Was the master bathroom's shower handicap accessible as well? It did have the jacuzzi, right? We're booked in a 2BR BW view next year, and I think I may try to avoid this villa since it is handicap. Thanks. ::MickeyMo

Thanks for that report....we stayed in the same villa last December. We found the fact that it was a handicapped accessible room only a minor annoyance (my 2.5yo kept turning the lights on and off because the switches were at such a tempting height!) but agree that the studio would have been unsuitable with small kids.

So the dryer was still working quietly? We had to have it fixed because it made a horrible screeching sound every time we used it....couldn't put it on at bed time! Sorry to hear about the bed...it was quite comfy in Dec.....I guess we helped to wear it out!

We don't really like the closed balconies either, but I did like the view when standing up! We didn't experience much noise either...but it was early Dec. and it wasn't that busy. Our first BW view stay was quite noisy, because we had a room where entertainers would do their thing right underneath our balcony every night.

Glad you had a great trip...I can't wait to go back. We've got the "cheap seats" this time as well....but so far my favorite room at the BWV is a standard view anyway!

This villa does have the jacuzzi tub....but both showers are of the roll in variety. It really would not be an issue, unless you have a member of your group who is a bit unsteady on their feet and might have trouble with water getting on the bathroom floor...becoming slippery. Otherwise the showers really weren't a problem....since we could bathe the kids in the big tub.

People never stop amazing me. How unmagical can you get>

The master bathroom's shower was handicapped accessible, but there is the jaccuzzi tub. With the handicapped shower, you do need to make sure you have a towel down on the floor - we didn't have the flood others report, but it did get a little damp - nothing a pair of bath mats didn't handle. The floors do get slick when wet - but that is a problem in the non-handicapped rooms too (you just need to be a little more careful about getting the floor wet with the open shower). Our "slick floor" issues had more to do with wet kids coming out of the tub than the shower.

I really wouldn't avoid a handicapped room. In some ways it was great - all those extra "towel bars" for drying swimsuits. The other difference is that the space under the sink is open, so the trash is visable. But there are so many other things to worry about in life than "I can see the trash bin and there is a seat in my shower." (The handicapped showers are big enough for two, the shower head is on a hose, and there is that seat right there ..... better stop before I get myself in trouble).

The dryer didn't squeek - so it stayed fixed. It wasn't quiet enough to run while people were sleeping - perhaps we are light sleepers.
