Just returned from Dis and I have to say, after all the debating and worrying I did before going, I'm SO GLAD I WENT!!! The plane flight there was a little "mind bending", I kept thinking of what those poor people must have gone through on Sept 11th and that made me uneasy the whole flight. But once we checked into CRS, NO WORRIES! We promised ourselves we wouldn't turn on any news channels, only the Weather Channel and what a difference that made!
Disney's service was just as great as always! I was worried about it, with all the cutbacks, but it's in proportion to the numbers of people there, so we still had the same great Dis service you expect (and look forward too!). Dinner at Citrico's was yummy, as was lunch at Cindy's. The bathrooms and park walkways are still as clean as ever, I really expected to see this go to the way side a bit, but everything was as clean as always. And no more white powder soap in the bathrooms - it's now pink liquid.
Security at the parks was great. You have to check your bag through security before going through the turnstiles, but it goes really fast. The parks were busy on Saturday and Sunday, but we never had more than a 10 minute wait on anything in MK or MGM. We needed a Fastpass for the safari ride in AK on Sunday, but walked right onto the Dino ride. And Epcot on Wednesday was a ghost town! Lots of their usual fast food places were closed, since no one was there. The countries still had their programs, we got to see outside performers in Paris, Morocco, Mexico and China. (The prices have gone up on the wine and food festival kiosks though.) And best of all, there was only a 10 minute for TestTrack!! I couldn't believe it.
MNSSHP was great - lots of visible security on Halloween night. They were actually stopping people who had masks on their faces, asking to see their park passes or photo ID. People really tempered down the scary stuff this year too, mostly cute costumes, very few scary and I saw no gorey costumes at all.
We missed out on the character caravan, since we had made early ressies before knowing about it, but there were characters everywhere. THere's a cute new show in front of the Castle called Cinderella's Surprise Celebration and it has more characters then you can shake a stick at in it. The best part is afterwards, they walk down to visit with the guests! We got to see Genie, Alice and the Mad Hatter, TweedleDee and Dum (who are HYSTERICAL!) and lots of others we hadn't seen before. We even saw the bears from Country Bear jamboree - talk about OLD costumes! They had the mesh circle in the neck! We never ran into any going out of the parks, like in the past, but they are hanging out in the parks more like they use to when I went as a kid, which is always a nice surprise.
One small note about the new parade - WOW! Those snowglobes are SO cool! The parade stops periodically and characters will pull kids off the sidewalks and have them come dance with them - too cool! The MGM parade is fun too, but since they're in cars, if you don't get up front, you don't get to see much of them.
Overall, everything was fabu. The bus system had a couple of "bumps" in it, with the parks changing hours while we were there (one hand not letting the other know what was going on), but as soon as we complained at guest services, a bus was dispatched and we made our PS on time. For anyone who's still debating about going, all I can tell you is GO! It will be the best week you'll have had in a long time! Everyone on the buses were all sharing their comments and thoughts and basically said the same thing, they were so glad they decided to go after all. The week of fantasy was badly needed. I'm already contemplating my next trip!
If you have any questions, let me know!
