Just back from Cypress Point.... My review

I got a rate of $57/night from hotelkingdom.com


When I checked in, the person checking me in was RUDE. Almost acted like I didn't have a reservation. But I was too tired to let her get to me.

Got to my room and realized that my "villa" was in a place called Sunterra Resorts. An older section. I don't think my room was really the Cypress Point rooms as advertised. The room was ok. Wasn't bad, but not great. I was not really too disappointed when I first walked in the room.

Some bad things:

1. The bed was hard and very uncomfortable.

2. The phone was a piece of crap (putting it nicely). First of all when I checked in, I had to plug in the phone and when it rang you had to be one foot away from it to hear it ring.

3. The remote control was broken. Had to get up to turn the TV off. When I was checking in another guy was bringing his remote control back.

4. The shower was in a seperate area and was dark. No light in there. Had to shower in the dark.

5. Overall it was smaller than I expected.

I got a one bedroom villa for $57/night. I guess for the price, it was ok. I plan on going to WDW for my honeymoon and stayed at Cypress Point to check it out. I will definitely won't be staying here on my honeymoon. CP was ok for just me staying there on business, but not for my honeymoon or a trip. They charge you $225 if you don't check out by 10:00 am, so watch that.

Anyone else have this experience??? What was with putting my in Sunterra resorts??? I'm sure it's all the same company, but it was older.

I thought they were just ok too. where you stayed IS Cypress Pointe, Phase I, not the newer section, Cypress Pointe Grand Villas (Phase II). Sunterra, I guess is just the name of vacation ownership company. We stayed several days during Easter of this year. We had a 2 bedroom that was niced sized, just worn. The appliances in the kitchen seemed to have been the originals from when they were built & werent in the best of shape. Our master bathroom did have a light in the shower area which was nice because it didnt bother the person in the bedroom with too much lighting when showering at night, especially since the bathroom was in no way closed off from the bedroom. I didnt really like the fact that the toilet area did not close off from anything making us have to close the bedroom door to use the restroom. I mostly used the restroom to the smaller bathroom for better privacy.

I would strongly recommend Wyndham Palms Resort & Country Club if you are looking for a place to stay during your honeymoon. If you book through hotelkingdom.com you will probably find the best rates. The 2 bedroom is 1550 sq ft but the 1 bedroom hotelkingdom offers is the smaller 1 bedroom (650 sq ft). Sunterra is the management company for Cypress Pointe Resort and Cypress Pointe Grandvillas. Whether you call it a Sunterra resort or not, you are talking about the same place. The original section or phase is the Resort. The second, newer section or phase is the Grandvillas. HTH.

Please don't take offense at what I am going to say, but I suspect that you got one of the very old units bc of the very low rate you paid. Pretty much all hotels/resorts do this. If you check these boards, you'll see that there are plenty of good reviews of CP. But the bad ones tend to come from people who booked thru hotelkingdom. I think it's how CP rents out the inventory that they could not possibly sell at their usual rate, which I have seen as high as $169 for the 2 BR.

I think the moral of the story is that sometimes you get what you pay for. I am sorry you were disappointed, though, and glad you checked it out before the really important trip!

mcnuss - i agree but disagree.

Alot of people are getting postcards for the Sheraton's Vistana Villages for $55-75 p/night which is an incredible deal. There isn't a bad section or room in the whole complex. I myself paid $109. thru HK when I stayed at this place and was blown away, it's normally $200+ a night for a 2BR villa.

So there are some very good promo rates for certain places, but this just happened to be a much older resort, Daisy obviously didn't know about the 2 phases of this resort - not all heavily discounted rates mean you will "get what you pay for" everywhere you go.

Lorix2, I agree wholeheartedly, that's why I said "sometimes you get what you pay for", not always. But there is a definite pattern forming on the DIS with respect to CP. When you go over to the TUG board for timeshare owners, you'll see raves about CP, both phases I & II, and I think it's bc owners and traders get first pick of the units. Not sure, and you'll see that I'll be posting that question, but that's what it looks like to me. I also think there's a difference between getting a postcard for a promo from the resort directly as you did from Vistana - I get those too as an owner at the resort - vs. getting a low rate from a wholesaler like hotelkingdom or priceline or any of the discounters. In general, those sources are used to unload unsold inventory, and it makes sense that when assigning rooms/units, the property will generally - not always - give priority to those who booked thru traditional channels and at a higher rate.

Thanks for the responses. yes, the $57/night was a good deal. But I was a little disappointed - I didn't know that there was an older section. I was wondering if all the hotels at hotelkingdom were all older units. Guess I will keep searching for the place to stay for my honeymoon. Any suggestions? I got a suggestion for Wyndam Palms, but I've heard if someone wants to use the shower the bedroom door has to be closed. Wondering what that's all about???

You'd be very happy at the Sheraton's Vistana Villages or Marriott's Grande Vista Resort - we loved both places. MGV is a bit more upscale and much larger resort. THey are right next to each other on I-Drive.

We stayed in Cypress Pointe Grand Villas this past July, on a hotelkingdom rate of $88, and thought the unit and the resort lovely. We'd definately go back. We had the option of paying $20 less and going with Cypress Pointe but I figured for an extra $20 we'd go with the Grand Villas.

Having the hotelkingdom rate made no difference for us. In fact, when we checked in we were asked what view/building we preferred, and were granted our requests.
