Hi!
Just got back fom my trip to WDW for the Animal Kingdom pin event! I stayed 3 nights each at CSR and POP, and would like to pass on some observations and comments.
CSR is my favorite resort of all time! I've stayed at many of the resorts, and I have to say that the effort made by the CMs at this hotel to make the guests feel welcome and comfortable far surpass any I've experienced elsewhere! The rooms were very comfortable, clean and appealing. The resort is large and well laid out. The atmosphere was quiet and comforting, almost welcoming. I loved the fact that there were 4 bus stops and no other resorts were served by the CSR buses. There was bound to be a stop close to your room, no matter where it was. I bought the refillable mug, and made good use of it for both coffee, (which was delicious) and sodas. Imagine my surprise when I got to POP to find that the mug there was not only smaller, but also more expensive! a totally different design! The pin trading meetings set up at the hotel were very well done and all the traders really enjoyed themselves. The food I had at the hotel was exclusively from Rix' Cafe and was very tasty. I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely property to anyone.
The last 3 nights were spent at POP. I tried to stay the entire time at CSR, but it was full. First, let me say that POP is clean, the beds were comfortable, mousekeeping does a good job, and I was not bothered by any noise. The bedside clock-radio has a noise covering program that is a plus. The resort is colorful and I know kids just love it. The towel animals in all the windows, along with the toys are plain evidence of that. I totally did not care for the counter service restaurant. I found the pre-made re-heated food to be below par and unappetizing in the extreme. The refillable mugs were smaller and more expensive than CSR. The only good thing was the frozen Coke. The junk food overflows here. It's everywhere. I never saw any Tie-Dyed Cheesecake. Guest services here are few. The bus stop at the hotel where you may have to wait in line, is out in the blazing sun. They really need to put a cover there. At the parks, the POP bus stops are the farthest distance away than any other. My Magical Express ride back to the airport left at 5:15 am, and there was no one to assist me with my bags. I'm nearly 60 years old, and am recovering from a broken right wrist. Nothing was open at that time, and I had to muscle my bags by myself to the lobby and out to the bus. With no coffee maker in the room, I was also hungry and would've killed for some coffee. I can't believe that I'll ever stay at a value resort again. The savings are great, but at what cost for someone like me? In short, I personally can't recommend POP, but families with young children, and someone to help with things (hubby) would fit perfectly.
I enjoyed my stay at WDW very much. Was not chosen for any 'dreams' and didn't see any one else get chosen. There seems to be less of that happening than last year. I'm hoping to go again in September, and would like to try YC or BC.

Thanks for the review. We thought we had our minds made up to stay at a value resort, but I've always wanted to try CSR and now you've made the choice even harder! :lmao: Glad you enjoyed your trip and hope you get to return in September! If so, be sure to let us know how that goes also! :)

Thank you for your post! You just put my mind at ease with us staying at CSR for 5 nights and 6 days in July. I have thought about changing resorts as we have only ever used the POP Century but now I am thrilled that I didnt! Thanks again for the update!

:tink: You're welcome!
I also noted a marked difference in the quality of the towels and bedding (sheets), between the 2 resorts! The room decor at CSR was nice too!

Me too! We just stayed 4 nights CSR, 3 nights ASMo. I LOVED CSR for all the reasons you mentioned and yes, I noticed the difference in towel quality as well as shampoo. At the values, you get the all in one conditioner combo (which i hate) where at the mods you get separate shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The towels at ASMo were ratty and thin. That won't make or break my choice for hotel, but it adds to it. Next time I'm more inclined to stay moderate the whole time. We stayed at Movies for my 5yr old's sake and it was worth it for that. He was in toy story heaven.

Thanks!
I agree, and I think small kids and 'tweens' would find the atmosphere at the All Star and POP resorts fun and exciting! But, when it comes to creature comforts and my kind of expectations, I'll take the mods, and in particular, CSR (esp. the Cabanas section).
BTW, I took a 1 cup travel coffee maker with me, but had to pack it the night before departure so couldn't use it that morning.

Thanks for your review. CSR is a fabulous resort. I like it better than the deluxes.

Thank you for your review, I will be at the CSR in just 5 days and I am really looking forward to my stay.
I have noticed that lately, while I love the price of the value resorts, I think that the extra cost for a moderate resort is worth it. I like having a coffee maker in the room and the fridge. The landscaping of the moderates is nicer as well.

Welcome back! So glad you loved CSR as we do (we'll be there for our seventh stay in a little over three months for our 25th--and we can't wait).

Thanks and congrats on your anniversary! I also want to thank Buzz for his excellent CSR info! It was so helpful, and made my stay perfect!
I think I read where they are going to start a rehab of the resort this year. I think the rooms could use some freshening. The tv armoire in my room had drawers that didn't open or close properly. They get a lot of abuse, I'm sure. I'd also like to see the bowed shower rods in the bathroom.
It's really a beautiful place!

You heard right. They are starting a rehab October 1 on the entire resort that will take about a year. Thanks for the anniversary wishes.

Thanks for sharing. we are actually staying at POP (because i have a Hubby to lug around all the heavy stuff) But our next trip we plan on stayng at a Moderate. i think you have just helped us make our decision. :thumbsup2

We are a family of 5, so unless I want to pay a small fortune for the villas, we will be staying in 2 connecting rooms at POP in August. I know that PORR can take 5 people, but my kids are 16,13 and 6 and I can't see 2 double beds and a trundle working out for us. I would rather have 4 double beds and 2 bathrooms for about the same price. I know we lose a lot by staying at a value resort, but I don't plan on spending much time in the room. Anyway, i am sure we will have a great time.

Lisa

I glad you had a nice trip. I'm sorry to hear that Pop didn't go well for you. My DH and I stay at Pop-Century every time we go and we love it there. We don't have any kids and Don't plan on any in the future. I've never stayed at CSR before and I sure it's a nice resort but there's just something about Pop that brings out the kid and me. AS for the mugs they did change the size but we have two of the old ones that are big so I'm glad we got those before they change.:woohoo:
We are looking forward to next trip in May 2009 at Pop-century.

This is great news!!! Have wanted to try this resort for awhile - although when we visited found it overwhelming. The food court was so crowded...nevertheless, I make it a rule to stay at a resort when it has been refurbished, so now CSR can be on that list!:)

I look forward to reading everyone's reviews, especially Buzz2001's site and learning more about CSR. :)
