Hi!
Just got back fom my trip to WDW for the Animal Kingdom pin event! I stayed 3 nights each at CSR and POP, and would like to pass on some observations and comments.
CSR is my favorite resort of all time! I've stayed at many of the resorts, and I have to say that the effort made by the CMs at this hotel to make the guests feel welcome and comfortable far surpass any I've experienced elsewhere! The rooms were very comfortable, clean and appealing. The resort is large and well laid out. The atmosphere was quiet and comforting, almost welcoming. I loved the fact that there were 4 bus stops and no other resorts were served by the CSR buses. There was bound to be a stop close to your room, no matter where it was. I bought the refillable mug, and made good use of it for both coffee, (which was delicious) and sodas. Imagine my surprise when I got to POP to find that the mug there was not only smaller, but also more expensive! a totally different design! The pin trading meetings set up at the hotel were very well done and all the traders really enjoyed themselves. The food I had at the hotel was exclusively from Rix' Cafe and was very tasty. I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely property to anyone.
The last 3 nights were spent at POP. I tried to stay the entire time at CSR, but it was full. First, let me say that POP is clean, the beds were comfortable, mousekeeping does a good job, and I was not bothered by any noise. The bedside clock-radio has a noise covering program that is a plus. The resort is colorful and I know kids just love it. The towel animals in all the windows, along with the toys are plain evidence of that. I totally did not care for the counter service restaurant. I found the pre-made re-heated food to be below par and unappetizing in the extreme. The refillable mugs were smaller and more expensive than CSR. The only good thing was the frozen Coke. The junk food overflows here. It's everywhere. I never saw any Tie-Dyed Cheesecake. Guest services here are few. The bus stop at the hotel where you may have to wait in line, is out in the blazing sun. They really need to put a cover there. At the parks, the POP bus stops are the farthest distance away than any other. My Magical Express ride back to the airport left at 5:15 am, and there was no one to assist me with my bags. I'm nearly 60 years old, and am recovering from a broken right wrist. Nothing was open at that time, and I had to muscle my bags by myself to the lobby and out to the bus. With no coffee maker in the room, I was also hungry and would've killed for some coffee. I can't believe that I'll ever stay at a value resort again. The savings are great, but at what cost for someone like me? In short, I personally can't recommend POP, but families with young children, and someone to help with things (hubby) would fit perfectly.
I enjoyed my stay at WDW very much. Was not chosen for any 'dreams' and didn't see any one else get chosen. There seems to be less of that happening than last year. I'm hoping to go again in September, and would like to try YC or BC.
