This was our first stay at CR. It has a wonderful view from rm 4545 (9th fl).
I have never stayed there before the remodel but the furnishing are beautiful in the rms, although they seem to be already worn somewhat. Something surprising about this stay was the cleanliness, it was not up to Disney's prior standards. There was toliet paper stuck in a corner of the bathroom fl and toenail clippings on the carpet in the room. We arrived late so we didn't call mousekeeping or the front desk, and just thought they would get it the next day... they DID NOT. We arrived back in our room from the parks and the toilet paper and clippings were still in place. We called the front desk to complain and they sent no one up to clean it. (have pics I will try to post later) This isn't the last time we were ignored by the front desk. We were down at the pool area and there were 4underage (14-17 yr olds) smokers in the hot tub with glass drinks in there hand, this was like at 9pm at night. I went and told the front desk, and included the tidbit my DD overheard them talking about, that two of them were not even staying onproperty. They had come over after MK had closed and were using the pool, bragging I guess. The front desk did not respond, I went and told again on our way up (a diff CM). I went back down to purposely check and see if they had done anything about the teens, they had not. BTW the computers are no longer free internet use. The computer in our room did not work either, on our last day there they did send up maintaince to take care of it, while we were packing and trying to get checked out. The maintaince man knocked and walked in :scared1: , he did not give us time to respond or get to the door. When my DH called the front desk to complain strongly about him just walking in while we were getting dressed, the front desk person defended the Maintaince CM by saying he knocked that was enough :sad2:
The lobby and 4fl area gave me a feeling of an airport concourse.
Overall it is a beautiful resort but does lack themeing and well as cleanliness and customer service (which is hard for me to even say about a disney resort). We have always stayed at the Poly and always had extreamly well customer service from CM's. The experiance with the CR CM's and park CM's left us wondering what the heck is happening to the Disney we knew and loved. This was a short stay (2 nights/3days) we were thankful it was. That in itself is an odd feeling for me because I have always been one of those that leave and want to go back immediately.
I will try to post the pics of the dirty room and great view later... as I have yet to uneven unpack the cams yet :)

I have to agree about the different "feel" of the resort now. Our check in lacked the old cheerful, we're glad you're staying with us feel. No offer of bell services (luckily we were all using rolling luggage). Our room computer didn't work either, at least the concierge part, until our departure day. Luckily I could plug the cable into my laptop, and it was still free during our stay (late May). DH was grumpy the whole time, stated repeatedly that he wished that we were at WL, or back on the Boardwalk. Plus, with the construction, self park is almost non existant now. Think that was our last CR stay. :(

Totally unacceptable and it seems a common problem at Disney lately with rooms not cleaned properly.

However for anyone else with housekeeping problems, please do not call the Front Desk. You get the Disney Call Center, a central location, not even on the property that does not do a good job of relaying messages.

Either go the Front Desk in person and ask for the on duty manager or call Housekeeping using the buttons on your phone and ask for the on duty housekeeping manager.

Also everyone please lock your doors behind you, each and every time you come in with the deadbolt and latch. Only then can staff not walk in on you.

It should not be this way but it is and this will prevent this from happening.

There have been too many reports of customer service going down hill and more then one person having issues with room cleanliness. I would strongly advise anyone having any issues to contact Disney directly. Posting it here is good so others are aware of it but it won't eliminate the problem. When you send the info to Disney make sure you include your dates, room number, reservation number, etc so that they can pinpoint who the people where that you had issues with.

The same goes if you have had exceptional service

Definitely and try and remember names. Also everyone please try to get a manager to deal with CMs right then that are not doing their job. Due to the shortage of workers, Disney seems to have lately gotten some rotten apples. If no one ever complains about this, they will simply continue on doing a lousy job.

I know that no one wants to have confrontations on their vacation but accepting poor service is not acceptable and everyone has to take a stance against it.

We just got back yesterday. We stayed all last week and our internet service was free. We were on the 5th floor.
We also had problems with mousekeeping and our room had ants.
We had brought food in our room once and my husband had left in on the counter maybe 30 mintues and the ants had already started attacking it so from then on i said no more food in the room. We did mention it to them when we left but i doubt they did anything, they didn't seem to concerned.
Overall our stay was okay, I am glad we tried but we wont stay there again.
Our favorite is the Poly.

Gross! Considering the prices they charge and the recent reviews, I certainly wont be staying at the CR anytime soon.

Frankly, I think that these housekeeping issues are a problem all over the WDW resort. They are all controlled by the same corporate leadership (I mean when you call the front desk you get a centralized office as opposed to actually reaching the front desk of your resort) and problems at one are sure to be problems at another. I have heard bad stories about housekeeping from pretty much every resort on property (from here and tripadvisor.com) and no more or less from any one resort. It is a problem that the WDW resort at large needs to address. You shouldn't, however, base your resort choice on one or two bad housekeeping reviews because the problems are not limited to one or two resorts. They happen everywhere. The Contemporary is no worse at housekeeping than the Poly, BWI, YC/BC, GF, or any other deluxe resort you could think of. The OP just happened to have a bad stay, but she could have had an equally bad stay anywhere else.

I am sorry your stay at the Contemporary was not as magical as it could be. You did the right thing by reporting those 4 teenagers who were obviously not guests of the Contemporary and the fact they were smoking and drinking underage must mean they could not care about any rules.

As for your room not being as clean as it should be, there is no excuse for that and I don't know what else to say about it.

However I disagree with you about the lack of a theme because I think the Contemporary's theme is on the 4th floor with the Monorail going by and everything that is around it, because you don't get that at the other Deluxe Resorts. Also whenever my family and I have stayed there we have had excellent service from the Cast Members, so maybe you just the bad luck of the draw when it comes to them.

As for the internet not being free if that's true I will find out when my family and I stay there in August because others have reported when it says your time is up, all you do is click back online for access and it works once again. So maybe you had that problem and since you had problems with the computer maybe that was a factor?

Sorry you had a bad stay :(

We had a wonderful stay at the CR, perfectly clean room. Very helpful CM's, a few went out of their way to help us even and just a great time.

Hopefully you will give it another shot and it will be better.

Friends and I just got back from attending the Pirate Event (which included rooms at CR). I fell in love with this resort all over again. Did not have a problem with cleanliness at all. In fact, I was amazed at how many and how often I saw mousekeepers. Then I was reminded that at DVC you see them here and there since we don't get daily cleaning.

Friends in another room had trouble opening their safe. They called maintenance and they were right up with a gadget to open it.

Sorry you had problems but we had a wonderful stay.

Maybe so, but I have never had a problem with cleanliness at the Moderates.

We are returning guests to CSR, our favorite resort. I agree with you. We have never had a Mousekeeping complaint.

Sorry for your crummy housekeeping. Yuck, toenails!!!!

I think the the CR has a "theme", we just decided we didn't like it; sounds like you felt the same way. We prefer the "theme" of WL, or Poly, or AKL.

I loved our stay at the CR this past December. We were in a ground floor wing room. It was beautiful. The ducks outside the door every day, the quiet grounds and low key room decor. Its really nice theming IMHO and if you need more Disney, walking to the MK, cant be beat.
Of course no excuse for bad housekeeping but you can find issues with that at any resort. I hope your next stay is better: pixiedust:

My DH didn't get the pic of the toenail clippings but did get the puter not working and the worn area on the inside of the closet door. The Tissue in the bathroom looked as though the toliet overflowed and no one bothered cleaning it up properly. As for the computer not being free , my DH asked in person at the front desk when ours was not working (allowing access to internet) and they said they were charging for it now. We could go to any other place on their little computer system accept the internet. Luckily we had our laptop with us so we just used it. Someone mentioned a friend having problems with their safe, we also had problems with ours. It was shut when we arrived and it would not open. That was the ONLY time Maintaince showed up in mins.
As for themeing, I think that is a personal opinion and a personal matter of taste. To me , I felt like I was in an airport conconcourse downstairs but someone else might love it. It is all personal choice. Maybe because it is a convention hotel, but I just didn't feel like it was a place for families. That also is just my personal opinion, again. Actually my DH's too, he said "NEVER AGAIN, we will stay at the Poly or we won't book at Disney." Again this is just his personal opinion.

We just returned Saturday from The Polynesian and we had such poor housekeeping, that we finally stopped asking them to come by.

We made our own beds, took out our own trash, and asked for items as we needed them.

This was the first time we've ever experienced any housekeeping issues and I was very disappointed. I still love The Polynesian, but will be expecting less when we return and that's unfortunate.

I've stayed at all but 5 (soon to be 3) WDW resorts, and I've never had bad mousekeeping. Maybe it's because I tip each night. I'll say this is because I know it is likely not the same Mousekeeper each day and tipping at the end would probably short someone, but I must admit, that it is also to encourage good service. I'd probably tip the same amount cumulative on the last day as tipping each night, but they don't know that.

I tipped $5 per day, and after the second day, and the toilet rim still hadn't been wiped down, and sand was still on the dresser, I put out my privacy sign and it stayed there for the rest of my stay.
