Just back a few days ago from a lovely week at the CR. Bumped from MK view to concierge level which was very nice.

Anyway, if anyone had any questions about the CR or anything else, I'd love to try and help.

welcome back..did you eat at any of the restaurants there? also would you stay there again? it looks like a cool resort...i would like to stay there one trip.

How did you get bumped? Did you ask at check in or did they just give it to you? How was the construction?

Hi Slug,
We have also just returned from 10 fabulous days in the CR concierge. When were you there? We were there from 14-21 may. I heard someone arrive at the desk and say they had just been upgraded on the monday when I was in the lounge getting breakfast...wonder if it was you?
We had the best time. They decorated our room when we arrived with balloons, mickey confetti on the floor, beds and surfaces a box of chocolates and a card signed from chip and dale and 2 embroidered graduation hats. Larry the itinerary planner had organised this for us as I had mentioned that we were holidaying to celebrate finishing our masters of nursing...we were so happy and surprised to see the room it was great!!! The food was also great and it was handy to be able to get breakfast before heading to the parks. Wish we could always stay concierge!!! How did you find it?

Wow...I'm glad ya got the upgrade -- but that speaks to the lack of interest in others booking concierge at the the CR!!!

I don't see it like that at all. If there was an empty room on the 12th floor, WDW did a nice thing for slug by getting an upgrade to stay there. To me it's no different when someone get's upgraded to other Concierge or Club Floors as they are now called at the other Deluxe Resorts. If guests are upgraded to the Club Levels Floors at the Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club, is it because there is a lack of intrest to stay on those floors?

I'm posting this at the risk of being accused of following you around...but since you had not posted on this thread before me, I will respond.

No, I'm not sure that I can agree with your assessment. In part because we do not have many posts saying that guests have gotten similar upgrades at other resorts. This is not the first I've seen related to the CR...but I cannot honestly recall the last post I've seen from someone staying in a 'standard room' say at the GF saying they'd been upgraded to the palm....the CR has been priced as the lowest cost deluxe (excepting AKL) over the past few years for a reason....demand.....I personally got booked and atayed on the 12th floor a few years back at $ 225 per night...when compared to other deluxes at WDW...that's pathetic.

I have seen other posts of guests saying they have been upgraded to other Club Level Floors besides the Contemporary. I would find some examples and post the links on here, but everytime I do a search on my computer for old threads my computer freezes. So I agree that they seem to happen a lot at the Contemporary, however they do happen at the other Deluxe Resorts. Just not as often but they do happen at the Contemporary, so it's great news for anyone when it happens to them.

You might be over analyzing the whole thing. As a whole, I do believe that the Contemporary may be in lesser demand than the other (specifically Magic Kingdom) resorts. This can be seen by the choice of Disney to remove the North Garden Wing, as it was no longer profitable (maybe due to age/remodeling costs [but what about the South Garden Wing] or most likely an overall oversupply of rooms in the resort). Supply may have met demand, but at a discounted rate that was not profitable (or, more importantly to the corporation) not at a profit that they deemed acceptable. Maybe they'll build a DVC property, where the new construction and the overall timeshare-design will increase demand leading to desired profts.

I know their renovation will be different then what is going on at the Contemporary but when the Grand Floridian get's their renovation started, would you not say some of what you said would apply to them? Since that is the nicest of all the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, how many people would want to stay there during a renovation?

Slug: Congrats:thumbsup2 Please tell more about the food options and your view! Would love pics if you have them!
Aussidaisy: Congrats to you guys on the MSN! Also a nurse ( MSN Nursing Admin)We will be staying CR Tower Club Nov. 25 - Dec.2. I get so excited to see opinions of the CR!

Slug, congrats on the upgrade! When you were upgraded did you still get an MK view? I'm going in September and paid for an MK view. I personally wouldn't want an upgrade to concierge if I couldn't get my MK view.

My only question is, will the general public even know the Grand Floridian is renovating prior to their stay? And how many people staying at the Contemporary know that a building was torn down and the north part of the property will be a construction zone during their stay? We don't have an answer. The only thing we can speculate on is the big picture: Disney closed rooms, Disney tore down those rooms. Why, we don't know. It wasn't because the Contemporary was overbooked all the time, that's probably for sure.

We had breakfast twice at Chef Mickey's. Just as background, I always loved Chef Mickey's before it was actually called that. And the last time I went it was still good. But I have to say, I liked the character breakfast better at the Crystal Palace. Not that Chef Mickey's was bad, but the CP was just very, very good.

We also ate at the CGrille which was great of course. A bit pricey, but that was to be expected.

Not only will I stay there again, but it would be very hard to get me to stay anywhere else. I love the location and the view of the MK is just unbeatable. Also, now that the rooms are new, that's just another reason to stay there. I really have very few complaints. For example, there is very little drawer space in the room. That's a bit lousy. But next to everything else, it is a very small price to pay.

How did you get bumped? Did you ask at check in or did they just give it to you? How was the construction?

They just gave it to us when we checked in. My in-laws checked in 6 hours later on a totally separate reservation and were also bumped. They must have had space open. It was great.

As far as construction, I didn't really notice it. At times you can see it from a distance, but as far as noise goes, there was none.

We checked in on the 17th and out on the 23rd.

I definately saw you. There were 2 of you, right? If I'm not mistaken, a long time ago I posted a question and I think you responded that you'd be there at the same time. I think you (if this is the same person I'm remembering) had a picture in your signature at the time. I had completely forgotten about that. But I believe I saw you at the CR once or twice.

Yeah, the concierge level was great. I loved the afternoon food. And the beer and wine was nice too. I was very happy with everything.

Great! Maybe we'll get lucky too! We also have two rooms. My family on one and my parents in another. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm glad we have found some 'common ground' :)

Just as some additional info, there were definately other CL rooms empty when we checked in on the 17th. But by the time we left on the 23rd, more guests had arrived. The lounge was noticeably more active toward the end of the trip. For all I know, maybe these were all people who got bumped. Or it could have been a product of the time of year - right before school let out for the summer.

As far as the CR as a whole, I can vouch that it was sold out a long time ago. When I booked, I got one MK view for myself and couldn't get another for my in-laws. Also there were no garden rooms. I called back periodically to check but nothing ever became available. They booked Lagoon view. As it turned out, we were both upgraded to CL.

There were also a lot of conventioners around - whether they were staying at the CR, I don't know - but they were definately having their meetings there as there were people with corporate paper nametags everywhere. I felt bad for them at 8am when they had on business casual attire and I was heading to the parks.
