We loved the resort (first time at WL), and the view was great, we could see the pool, the geyser, and the lake, 5th. floor. However, we were both surprised and upset at the amount of noticeable noise from the pool late at night. A group of about 6 adults decided to have a rousing game of Marco Polo around 10pm, while we're all for fun, six people screaming Marco Polo nearly non-stop is way too much. We contacted the front desk and they told us they could be in the pool until midnight, ugh, you've got to be kidding me. After another 10 mins. of this we called back and demanded something be done, that we had just spent two nights at POR dealing with rowdy cheerleaders and that a quiet nights sleep is not unreasonable. Security went to the pool and took care of the situation.

We love the resort and were amazed at the amount of wildlife we experienced, deer along the walking path to FW, and we saw what we still believe was either a coyote or wolf one night, but a cm said it was a fox, waaaay to big and dog like to be a fox. We've already booked for next Sept. on the bounce back program and saved 30% on the room portion, but we booked the woods view to avoid any further pool noise, however now we may get Whispering Canyons noise. Sounds like a tough proposition. Any suggestions?

First off, I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I'm sorry to hear about the late-night pool noise. We also had a bad experience with it back in 2004. Anyway, I would call the WL and request a room on the far end of the wings to avoid WCC noise. :)

I always travel with a white noise maker. You know- sleeping to sounds of waves crashing- ahhh! WE found it very useful for our courtyard stay at WL. It drowned out all the pool noise and the horn blast from the ferry with each arrival and departure- and those start pretty early am and go late pm.
I had gotten ours for our son's room when my daughter was born- definately could not handle 2 kids up at 3am! Now it just comes out for travel. In regular hotel rooms it is very useful to drown out the sounds from people in the hallway and multiple toilets flushing at all hours. i believe it cost about $20, six years ago.
While at the WL, housekeeping had fun with it each day having a different sound on when we came back to the room!

The white noise maker is a really good idea. I am a light sleeper and could barely sleep with the ferry's horn going all night at the Polynesian.

I could use one of those white-noise makers for all the time. I work the midnight shift, and "TRY" to sleep during the day. :headache: Our trip to Florida (and WDW) during Christmas week is probably going to be like heaven for me. :woohoo: :cloud9:

Regarding the adults being loud in the pool at night... you'd think that Disney would have some policy regarding noise levels after a certain hour.

So it was fine for you to ruin someone else's holiday, if Disney set the pool hours till midnight they had every right to be there. But to call security on them, thats just awful!

I think it's a balancing act. If the pool is open until midnight, the assumption is that it will be used and a bit noisey. If you get a late night with 25 people in the pool, what do you do? :confused3 They have the right to be there and there's going to be some noise. Some times when my kids and I swim late we just never realize how loud we are.

Not the OP, but it is plain awful & rude to be screaming in the pool at 11PM when people and children are trying to sleep. They could have kept the noise down as they know people are sleeping. IMO they have no right to be  screaming in the pool so late at night. There is just no consideration for anyone anymore it seems. I don't blame her for calling security, she is entitled to sleep isn't she  .

Glad you enjoyed WL.....

I'm surprised that you heard noise with the door closed.....I have
stayed there CY view 2x and don't remember any noise....
Got lucky I guess.
I would put quiet as your 1st request....

Hello,

I couldn't help but comment on this situation at the pool. I have to disagree with the poster about the people playing Marco Polo at l0:00 p.m. If these people were in their room shouting at l0:00 p.m., I would agree that calling security was in order. But, people don't usually tiptoe around a pool area trying to be quiet. It doesn't sound like they were shouting obsenities or anything vulgar, which of course, would be unacceptable. It's really kind of pitiful that security had to be called for someone playing a harmless game. And, as stated the pool hours are posted for a reason and these people sound as though they were there at a legitimate time.

There are boundaries for everyone

We have stay in both CY & WL view rooms. We were on the 3rd floor for Courtyard so maybe that's why we did not have noise problems. now for our Woods View room we were all the way over by the boat dock area/door side on the 5th floor. The farthest away from the bus stop;) And the evevators were kinda a walk, but every day we went down the stairs took the boat to CR In did the monorail for Epcot or grabbed a bus at CR. Of cousre we just used the MK bus for MK. I stopped by the Coffee Shop at CR, so that was my reasoning. We did not have kids with us so that made it easier for us. We loved that room. My sister had a room over looking the DVC pool & she liked that one too.

Hmmm....sorry, but if pool hours are until midnight, the people in the pool are in the right.

I don't think I've gone to bed before 11:00pm (except when sick) since I was 16 years old.

Just see both sides - there's plenty of early risers with kids running around at 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning when people are trying to sleep, too.

I wasn't there so I don't know how loud these guests were in the pool, but I think it's common decency to at least try to keep it down to a reasonable level in a public place, like a hotel/resort, after 10:00 p.m. I don't think you have to "tip-toe" but being overly loud and obnoxious just isn't necessary. Then you get into a subjective area, "what is loud and obnoxious." Just common sense is all that is needed.

We've stayed at WL once - courtyard view and didn't encounter this problem. But, during one visit at the BC we had an experience with obnoxious-ness. The people next to us (a man and child) were absolutely the loudest I've ever encountered anywhere. They typically came in around midnight every night and while walking down the hall the child would scream and run and the man would sing and talk really loudly. I'm glad they were having a good time, but this was every night. Then, they would absolutely slam the door and continue to sing and squeal and bang and beat (on what I have no idea). It sounded like they were remodeling the room. This would go on until 2:00 in the morning sometimes. We called after the third night and were moved - WHEW! I'll never forget that. I'm sure we're not whisper-quiet but you have to practice some sort of common courtesy in public places...

I used to work to nights at the hospital and a eye mask and a fan or a/c and I would sleep like a baby. You could pick up a white noise maker at any mall.

Ruin their holiday? Is it really too much to ask that people use the facility keeping in mind that other guests are trying to relax or sleep? We didn't ask security to arrest them and press charges, just to keep the screaming down. I guess if this upsets you then you must be the ones making the noise. So if EMH are at 8am and I get ready to go at 7:30am, I have the right to make as much noise as I want regardless of the other guests in the hotel. Hey, Disney is opening the park at 8, I didn't make the hours, just exercising my "right". Wow, this world really is severely lacking in consideration to others.

1) Pools are unofficially open 24-hrs.
2) They can be officially open until midnight.
3) However, noisy pools can be addressed as early as 10:00pm.
4) Just call the Front Desk.
5) If no reaction, dial the Operator and ask for the "Duty Manager" (use this term).
6) They are responsible for 2-4 resorts at night.
7) They WILL take action
. . . go and check it out personally
. . . call security, if necessary
. . . close the pool if the people do not listen

Thanks for the information RustyScupper. This was not ordinary pool noise and that was the issue, this was plain top of the lungs yelling by six people in unison. Again, we did not ask for them to be removed from the pool, just that the screaming be stopped, which we did shortly after 10pm. We slept just fine the other nights with normal pool noise and the boat horn. We are early risers, often by 6am for coffee and are very aware and respectful of those sleeping in the rooms around us as we realize it is their vacation as well. Peace to all and have a great vacation.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. We were there at the same time and apparently (and thankfully) we all managed to sleep through the noise. We had a connecting room and I was so afraid that we were waking our neighbors early every morning.

You don't see yourself severly lacking in consideration to others as well?

I think using the pool during the evening hours is acceptable, I think yelling of any kind is not. I would not want to hear yelling at any time of day.

What is it about a pool that people think they are suppose to scream. :confused3
